New Year, New Goals by Janice Seagraves

Soon, it'll be a new year and a new time of possibilities.

If you've read my New Year posts before then you'll know I don't make resolutions, I make goals for myself.

By New Years Day, my goal is to be 199. I want to be under 200 pounds. I know I can do this. Why? Because I've lost over sixty pounds already.

As for my writing goals, I should be getting my rights back on some of my titles in 2020, which I will be self-publishing after the mandatory three months wait.

I'm also working on some new titles.

So, my goals are a thinner healthier me, and more books published.

What are your goals for the new year?

Year of the Cat

20504257_10203143660469208_231507552_n(1)
Blurb:
Morgan isn’t expecting romance when she accompanies her friend for a week of skiing, but when she meets Jared all bets are off.
Haunted by the loss of his parents, werecat Jared Catterick earns his keep working for the Catclaw Clan. Jared has secrets that he doesn’t mind sharing with a special lady, and he hopes Morgan is that special someone. When his past and present collide it’s worse than he imagined, and he’s forced to fight for his life.

Excerpt:
Auntie walked into the middle of the hollow. “We the Catcall Clan are gathered here together to witness a challenge. Called by Munch son of Tiger, who challenges Jared Catterick son of nobody.”

“I am the son of somebody,” Jared yelled. The sudden flow of anger had his heart pounding hard against his ribs.

“Who? What are their names?” Auntie crossed her arm and leaned on one hip and tapped a toe.

“I donna remember. I was too young when they killed them and took me away,” Jared muttered.
“And she knows that.”

“Is Catterick your real last name?” Killer asked him in the canine speech.

“Aye. I donna remember much about me old life, but I never forgot me name.”

“Just tell her Mr. and Mrs. Catterick,” Killer said.

“Me parents were Mr. and Mrs. Catterick,” Jared said in a loud clear voice.

A few people around the hollow snickered.

Auntie gave a quick nod. “Jared son of Mr. and Mrs. Catterick. Munch challenges you for the death of his da, Tiger.”

Munch marched to Auntie’s side. He was every bit as big as his father. Well-muscled and not just tall but wide. Where Tiger’s hair was gray and white, Munch was blond and black. Another man accompanied him, his second, a tall, lanky male named Boyd. Jared knew him well, even though he was younger.

“Och. Here we go,” Jared told Killer and walked out into the middle of the hollow.

“He’s big,” Killer said in the canine speech.

“And ugly. I wouldna want to ride him into battle.”

Killer stayed at his side. “Psst.”

“Eh?”

“You can fight, right?” Killer asked.

“Aye.”

“Good to know.”

A Special Time of Year - Filled With Love and Blessings

I always struggle for ways to express how special and magical the season around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years is to me. Intertwined with the holidays are several family birthdays, which combine to make the time both too hectic to enjoy and impossible not to cherish. It's a constant struggle to remind myself to stop and embrace the hope beyond the hurry, the love behind the giving and give the season its due.
Nestled between Thanksgiving and New Years, Christmas represents both death and a bright new life. It is the death of heated days, the expiration of the growing season, a burrowing in of all that cannot function within Winter's frigid grasp. But its frosty embrace ushers in a new kind of warmth. It enforces a new closeness, a fresh reason to snuggle together and contemplate our blessings before a roaring fire or under a snuggly blanket. It's the season of love and hope because, though it comes at the end of one year, teetering on the edge of a brand new one, Christmas represents the glitter and beauty of giving and sharing...a time when peace on earth and goodwill toward men is more than a carelessly uttered cliche. It's a fond hope, a heartfelt wish, and despite our ongoing challenges, it's the goal we just can't resist reaching for...year after year.
I hope this Holiday season is everything you could wish for, filled with the only things that matter: family, friends, health and comfort. Enjoy the good will infused in the season and, if you can, take the time to appreciate the richness of your blessings.
Happy Holidays, Everybody!

Based in the Bedeviled & Beyond world, this fun collection of Christmas short stories will put a smile on your face and turn every day into a Hell-i-day!

Do You Suffer from Post-Holiday Letdown?

No matter which holidays you celebrate, there's no disputing that the atmosphere this time of year is different. There's so much buildup toward special events at the end of one year and the beginning of the next. So much anticipation. Through it all, it somehow feels as if things are going to be different when it's all done...our hopes will be met...our dreams fulfilled. The perfect time will be had by all.

Every heart will be warmed...every life enriched.

These out-sized expectations are rarely met in full or even in part. Humans are supremely talented dreamers. We excel at creating the perfect expectation, the fondest hope. But when, inevitably, those expectations aren't met it can sometimes hit us hard.

Reality in the face of all that magic can be depressing. The meal you thought you'd planned to perfection doesn't turn out quite as well as you'd hoped. The fun time together playing games and enjoying movies doesn't quite pan out. The game you chose is missing parts or nobody wants to play. The movie you selected stinks. Half of your guests are sick. Something breaks in the house. The dogs fight. Whatever it is...something less than perfect is going to happen to turn your expectation of a flawless time together into a broken dream.

And then the holidays are over. The presents have all been opened, the food is gone. Some of us return to lonely homes or hated jobs. Depression sets in. You can't seem to shake the blues. You're suffering from post-holiday letdown.

So what's the fix for all of that negativity? The answer is really kind of simple. Make the entire year as special as the holidays.

Kindness shouldn't be limited to a certain time of year. The pursuit of peace and joy should be a daily thing. The overflowing of love and hope shouldn't happen only around Thanksgiving or Christmas or Hanukkah or New Years. Your wish to make others happy should be a yearlong thing.

Yes, the holidays will still sparkle with a special kind of magic. And yes you can still enjoy their unique color, music and energy. But underscoring that specialness should be the knowledge that you don't need a particular time of year to follow your dream and make other people's lives better. When your life returns to normal, you can still be filled with dreams, hope and love. If you live your life that way, the magic never really leaves. It only changes form from day to day, becoming whatever you need it to be.

Happy New Year, everybody!

She might be the enemy. He might have to take her down. But all he really wants to do is make slow, sweet love to her.

Grimm Forbes has been captured by sexy spaceship Captain Cari Pascale and turned into her sex vassal. But, as alliances conspire to take down his old friends at the Authority, Grimm worries that the woman who ignites his sexual fantasies might be at the epicenter of the treachery. It's possible he'll have to make a choice between his friends and the woman he wants in his bed. He only prays he has the strength to make the right decision, because the consequences of making the wrong one will be apocalyptic.

5 Star review: Shannon's World of Books: "Wow, wow, wow…what an amazing book this was to read! This is the first book that I have read by this author and I just can’t wait to read more. This book was full of action, twists, magic and kept me on the edge of my seat. The author really did a great job keeping me pulled in throughout the book. It was excellent and I give it 5***** all the way around. I definitely recommend this book to lovers of paranormal. The magic was out of this world. The characters were great and I really felt for Grimm, Cari, and the others."

eBooks Galore: "...hot, sexy and has you hooked through the whole thing. ... The sex tension builds throughout the whole story until you feel like you're going to burst. This book will gladly satisfy any Science Fiction lover as well as romance readers! It's a great combination of the both!"
