Writing Book 5 and Reminiscing about my Series, Sweet Awakenings with @AuthorNicMorgan

Morning all... sorry this post is a little bit late out the gate, but I have been one busy little bee. Since I'm currently writing book 5 of my Navy SEAL series, Sweet Awakenings, I decided to give you a little self interview on book 4, Sweet Affliction.

Tell us a little bit about Nick and A.J’s story, what makes the lead characters ‘tick’ and how it connects to the previous books in this series?
Nick and AJ come into each other’s lives when neither of them are looking for a relationship, what’s more is that their attraction really couldn’t come at a worse time for either of them. He is literally running for his life, while trying to find out who is out to kill him. While she is trying to spend as much time as she can with her father whose health is failing. Despite all of these things they can’t deny the feelings that are building for one another. Throughout the course of some action packed days they discover just how much they mean to one another as the person behind the hit on Nick’s head is revealed. A culmination of events set in place years earlier on a mission that went wrong in Colombia years earlier pulls his former teammates into the intrigue as they all fight to protect their families and survive.
Was it hard for you to write scenes in which one or more of your characters are fatally wounded?
It actually is extremely hard for me to write. Being a huge supporter of our military, both past and present, I have a difficult time portraying them being injured in any way. The reality of war is real enough. We see it in the news, in the papers and even in the movies. Putting it into one of my stories is not something I enjoy writing, but I felt it was important to the setting of the story and for realism. Navy SEALs may be elite warriors, but they bleed red just like every other human being.
I absolutely love action heroes who are a combination of tough, deadly to caring, and protective. I also love to know the background information and inspiration behind a particular story. It makes the story more real. I am sure the readers would feel more connected this way too. Hence my next question… How much about the Navy Seals in your books is fact and fiction based on your research and what is the inspiration behind Nick & A.J’s character?
Anything that pertains to the SEALs, their training and specifics regarding missions is factual. While I write fiction I make every effort to make sure I am portraying them accurately. Since I wrote the first book in this series (Sweet Redemption) in 2009 I have been blessed and privileged to meet some of these real life heroes. Many of them have been supportive and offered their ear and keyboard to me on more times than I could count if I ever needed a question answered. As a matter of fact, anyone who reads this book will find a special dedication at the beginning to a couple of these men who I am honored to call friends. In addition to that, they’ve taught me that while Navy SEALs are sensationalized by media today, they are but men. Men who are capable of compassion and who above all else wish for the end to war and hope for peace.
What is the strangest inspiration you ever got for a story idea or characters?
I would say the strangest inspiration would probably be The Bristows. They are an old Irish couple who appear in a few of the books in this series. They are incredibly sweet, yet sometimes overbearing with their well intended advice and have the cutest accents. I was  inspired to add them after coming across a couple just like these two years earlier.
How do you come up with the character dynamics and interactions? I mean is it planned or the characters guide you?
In this book, the 4th in the series the camaraderie between the four SEAL brothers was easy. Their personalities came to life in the previous books so I knew almost immediately how they would interact with one another. The same could be said for the heroines. They all had their unique personalities and they complement their leading men so well that their conversations sort of took on a life of their own.
I noticed you initially started out as an erotic author. How/why, did you decide to merge erotic with suspense? Moreover, is it difficult to integrate erotic scenes into a suspense story without spoiling the flow of the story?
LOL. You noticed that, huh? Actually, truth be told the very first book I ever wrote was Sweet Redemption which was romantic suspense with a hint of erotic romance. It just happened to be released later than my initial releases. I have always been a fan of romantic suspense. I love reading them just as much as I enjoy writing them. Erotic romance has always been a huge part of who I am as a writer though. I personally find some erotic things to be actually romantic and beautiful. When with the right person, erotic words and moments can be very intimate and heighten the closeness the couple share. With all that being said, I don’t believe adding erotic scenes spoils the flow of a story. If the characters choose to have a more erotic than sensual moment I trust my muse to guide me in a way that makes the scene work.
What do you consider to be, the key elements of a great suspense story?
I think there needs to at least be three things when writing a successful suspense novel. First, you need a conflict. Then you need the ever important twist, you know the one that no one saw coming. I think those are important to the reader to keep them on their proverbial toes and those surprises are one of my favorite things to write. Lastly, I believe you need a believable resolution. One that explains things and seems possible, not one that leaves the reader shaking their head doubting the outcome.

Stormy Passion Heating Things Up with @AuthorNicMorgan

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us everyone. I'm your tour guide for the day, Nicole Morgan and as some of you may have noticed I drop by with a new post on the first of every month and either ramble like a fool or amaze you with my intellect. LOL. Okay, yes that last one was a stretch, but...I've got you smiling now, don't I? Now that you're good and loosened up, go ahead and kick your shoes off, sit back, relax and enjoy!

Stormy Passion Heating Things Up

For April our theme is Storms and all that implies. So I thought I would share with you a scene from Sweet Salavation (Sweet Awakenings Book 2) where two best friends are finding it harder and harder to ignore their feelings for one another, and the ensuing late night rain storm makes it all the harder. Because let's face it... getting all wet has a certain element of raciness to it...

They finished their coffee and headed back to Rex’s car. They got about halfway there when it started to rain. At first, it was a gentle rain, which just made them both grimace with annoyance over getting wet. Then, when the car was in sight, the downpour began. They both started running to the car. Shelby got to the door and waited for Rex to unlock her door. When he didn’t, she turned back to see him getting back up from the ground. He had fallen and was now thoroughly drenched. He was sprinting toward her, laughing. He was way more soaked than she was.
He quickly unlocked her door and ushered her in. Then he ran around to the driver’s side and jumped in behind the wheel. Rex was laughing so hard he was almost doubled over. Shelby almost couldn’t stop, either, until she realized they were getting water all over his custom leather interior.
“Rex, your car. Your interior is going to be ruined.”
He just shrugged it off and kept laughing. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll get her detailed tomorrow.” He put the key in the ignition and was about to put it into reverse when he saw someone run behind the car. “Whoa, that was close. I almost didn’t see that guy in the ball cap.”
That piqued her interest. She looked at him. “What guy, what ball cap?”
“I don’t know. He was probably trying to get out of the rain, just like us.” Rex slowly, paying attention this time, got the car out of the parking space and back onto the road.
Twenty minutes later, they were pulling up to Shelby’s condo parking lot. “Give me your keys, I’ll run up and get an umbrella and be right back down.”
She just looked at him like he was the dumbest man on earth. “Why, Rex? So I don’t get wet?”
Nodding in acknowledgment, he grinned. “Last one there has to make the coffee.”
Before she could even remind him that they already had coffee, he was running for the door. She swung out of the vehicle, laughing. “Hey, wait, no fair, you cheat.” Just as she caught up to him on the stairs, she pretended to stumble on her heels. He turned to help her when she gave him a quick shove against the railing. Running up the stairs as she got out her key, she got to the door first and opened it. When he finally got inside, they were both in hysterics like a couple of children who had just gotten finished playing the most exhilarating game of tag. Shelby was almost brought to tears, and she could barely catch her breath. Rex locked the door and walked up to her and started to shake his whole body like a dog. He was spraying water everywhere.

“Rex, stop it. Are you going to clean this up?” She tried to sound irritated, but she still was laughing.

*****

Rex looked at her and stopped dead in his tracks. He halted his shaking from side to side and just stared at her. Her hair was falling out of the cute little twist she put it in, and curls were falling everywhere. Her face was wet and glowing with laughter. And her dress, my God, her dress was wet, completely soaked, and clinging to every curve of her magnificent body. Every instinct in him told him to stop what he was about to do. But he couldn’t stop. She was standing up against the living room wall looking so damn beautiful he was getting even more aroused than he was earlier that day in Jack’s office. Don’t do it, he told himself. Don’t ruin what you two have. Don’t give in to your desires, Rex. Just say good night and walk away.
“Rex? What’s wrong?” Shelby stopped laughing as she watched the way he was staring at her.
“Shh, don’t say anything.” He walked closer to her and brushed some stray curls out of her eyes. She was still just staring at him, but the way her eyes looked was making his pulse race.
“Rex, I–”
He cut her off, and leaned into her. , His lips were brushing against hers. It wasn’t even a kiss, but a gentle caress of his mouth. Slowly, he slid his tongue in between his teeth and swiped it across her bottom lip ever so delicately. It was such a tender and erotic sensation that he thought he would die from the sweetness of it.
He continued to gently brush his lips against hers, occasionally swiping his tongue across her lips. It seemed to go on forever before he took both of his hands and placed them on the sides of her neck and face, drawing their mouths closer together.
Rex took a shuddering breath and leaned his forehead against hers. His eyes were closed as she stared at him in shock. He suddenly opened his and stared deep into hers. Their color was usually a vivid blue, but right now, they seemed to shimmer with something else, something she couldn’t quite put into words.
“Shelby, oh, Shelby, please. For the love of God, kiss me back. Please.” He brushed his lips back against hers, and his tongue slowly started a seductive slide from side to side, encouraging her mouth to open and accept him.

EROTIC TEASER

“Rex? Is there something wrong? You’re so quiet.” She gave him a triumphant smile. “Penny for your thoughts.” She continued to taunt him as she walked toward the bed.

He stared at her. She did it! He couldn’t believe it. She had shaved all the hairs from her sweet, succulent pussy. All that stood in between him and her glistening, swollen flesh was her smooth, creamy skin. “Jesus, baby. You are so damn gorgeous. Come over here and let me taste you.”

She laughed. “Rex, did you forget the rules? I’m in charge right now. You do as I say, not the other way around.”

He threw his head back in frustration. He wanted so badly to touch her there and to taste her. He brought his head back up when he felt the bed move. She was getting on top of him but not the way that he would expect. She was facing the other direction. He was ready to bless her for her ingenuity when he found himself wanting to curse her. She had purposely positioned herself right in front of him, but just barely out of reach. His tongue darted out but couldn’t reach her. She was at least six inches away from his mouth. And the sight. Jesus, the sight of her was amazing.

She raised her bottom up higher and sank her mouth down on top of him. It happened so fast he hadn’t been expecting it. He let out a groan as she took him deep and fast, clasping her lips tightly around his shaft.

When a Series just won't End with Nicole Morgan

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us everyone. I'm your tour guide for the day, Nicole Morgan and I'd like to talk to you about a situation I've gotten myself into. A bit of a pickle you might say. Oh, I know, there in lies tons of euphemisms, right?  LOL. Seriously though, I'd love everyone's feed back on this so comments would be so very appreciated. Now, go ahead and kick your shoes off, sit back, relax and enjoy!
In 2009 I began penning my very first book, Sweet Redemption [Sweet Awakenings 1]. It tells the story of Jack, a former Navy SEAL dealing with a few demons after his life on the teams. Then, because I'm my own worst enemy and love a good challenge, I finished that book with a bit of a hook at the end. Thus Sweet Salvation [Sweet Awakenings 2] was born. This time it was the story of Rex, Jack's former SEAL teammate who has his own obstacles to overcome if he's going to save the woman that he loves. But once again, when I wrapped up this baby, I couldn't help but tell Adam's story, also known as, Sweet Vengeance [Sweet Awakenings 3], Being the most abrasive of the SEAL bunch, Adam's story was a bit different and surprised the readers. But not to worry, I had some unfinished business from all three books which came to a head in Nick's story. Which brings us to, Sweet Affliction [Sweet Awakenings 4].  This was the story that tied up all those loose ends into one neat and tidy happy ending for all of my scrumpdelieicious SEALs.

Or so I thought it was the end, because as of late, both my muse and my readers have protested such a thought. So here I am pondering revamping the series in an entirely different direction. You see, the four heroes of these books make friends with a couple of local cops. Andrew is married to the lovely Amanda and there is definitely a hot and steamy story to be told there, but most importantly the one character that I and lots of my readers have come back to is Cullen, Jr. He doesn't fit the stereotype for the classic cover model hero. He has a great body, and works hard at it, but he's Irish with red hair and freckles to boot. But, his charisma...oy vey, he could charm the pants off of a catholic school girl.

This all brings me to my predicament. I truly believe that the "Sweet" series has ended. Plus, when I think of those books, I think of my SEALs. But, the characters within these stories need to have their stories told also. They really really do! *winks* And they're not SEALs, they're officers of the law. The sexy kind! Hehehe... So, my question is, do I let the "Sweet" Series die and start a whole new theme, just crossed over from the previous? Or do I stick with the "Sweet" theme?

Oh... decisions...decisions... HELP!!
