Favorite Cowboy Romance Feature at USA TODAY's Happy Ever After by Renee Vincent

Last week, book 2 of my Mavericks of Meeteetse series, MADE FOR McKINLEY, was featured at USA TODAY's Happy Ever After in an article asking authors and romance blogs which cowboy romance was their favorite!

What makes this twice as awesome, is that New York Times bestselling author, Cathryn Fox, mentioned my cowboy romance as her favorite and it's sitting front and center at the top of the list!

It's such a thrill to touch readers with my writing, but to make a fellow author's favorite list shoots me to a whole new level of happiness—especially from such a beloved and talented bestselling author as Cathryn Fox! Here's what she had to say:

"My favorite cowboy romance is Made for McKinley (Mavericks of Meeteetse series) by Renee Vincent. There’s just something about a denim-clad, hardworking cowboy that fires a woman’s blood and sets her heart racing … Renee’s book touched on real issues, and I found myself smiling, laughing and even tearing up a little. She has a way of drawing a reader in so you feel exactly what her characters feel."

I encourage you to read the whole article so you can see the great company of authors surrounding me, as well as the other cowboy romance favorites that come with personal recommendations from some of the industry's top selling authors! Click here...

And because I'm so overwhelmingly happy about this great news, I wanted to share an excerpt from the book. I hope you enjoy!

Made For McKinley, Book 2
Excerpt:

Ava looked away. She felt weak and full of shame for what she wanted. He was just too young for her to crave those things from him. She couldn’t help but feel she’d only be taking advantage of him. She had to resist Jonas McKinley. It was best for both of them.

Just walk out.

After her inner pep talk, she became very aware of the pressure of his grip around her wrist and realized she couldn’t escape him if she tried. He was too strong for her to slip away.

“Look at me, Ava.”

She clenched her teeth at his command. If she couldn’t remove herself from him, she’d give him the cold shoulder.

“Look at me.”

He spoke in a whisper, a satiny susurrus laced with grit. That intoxicating sound alone willed her to move. Like ribbons of grass bending in the wind, she had no choice but to shift her gaze in his direction. His warm, kind eyes hit her like the double-barrel hind kick of a horse. His face had softened to match the rich, dulcet tone of his voice. She fell limp under his spell.

His grip on her wrist lessened, and he stroked her forearm in the release. He brushed the wispy hair from her face, taking notice of what their passionate encounter had done to her ponytail.

“You and I are so much alike, it’s scary.” He folded his hands at the small of her back, trapping her against him in a way that didn’t make her feel imprisoned. “We both have rules we hate to break. And until you came along, I never broke them.”

He let go and stepped back. The buckle of Winchester’s throatlatch became his focus instead of her body. She was thankful for the reprieve, and her flight response diminished. He had her curious.

“What rules did you break with me?”

In one fluid motion, he reached beneath the horse’s jaw and up to the opposite ear, sliding off the headstall. Winchester opened his mouth as the bit fell out. Jonas gave the horse a good pat on the neck and turned to face her. His eyes enchanted her again. “Number one, I never let anyone ride my horse. And that means no one.”

Ava pursed her lips, hiding a grin. She wasn’t sure what special factor she had to make him forgo that rule, but she liked it.

“Number two?” she prompted.

“I never get involved with anyone from the rodeo circuit. That includes those who ride and those who watch.”

“So why me?” She couldn’t believe she actually voiced her thoughts. She wanted to kick herself for doing so. Engaging this man in conversation was not the way to brush him off. And did she really want to know? What if it was because of a dare? Or a bet? Men did that crap all the time. Would she be able to handle his reason if it were on the sharp side of a wager? Probably not.

Her gut said, Leave while you still can. For once, she decided to listen.

As Ava attempted to sidestep him, he took hold of her arm. Not in haste or with fervor, but with tenderness. His gaze captured hers, and she could see the sincerity expressed in the magnificent swirl of blue in his eyes.“Why did I break rules for you? Because I can’t stop myself. Hell, I’d break every damn rule there was just to be close to you.”

Guest Blog: Suzy Shearer talks about writing #RB4U @SuzyShearer

I’ve often been asked why I write erotic romance fiction and I guess the short answer is ‘because I can’.
When I first began to write I discovered I had a flair for explicit but romantic sex so I figured that was my forte.  Then I realised most characters in the books I’d read were in the late teens, 20s and 30s.
Why not write about the people I know and the ages we are? I decided I wanted to show that just because a person is older they aren’t sexy and attractive.
So now my heroes and heroines are always older. They range in age from 40s right through to 60s. Most are around 50. As well 99% of my heroines have been plus-sized women who are proud of their curves. I want to pull down all those stereotypes.
Of course there is a down side to writing erotic books.  When people find out often their reaction is to give a sleazy leer and make some comment about writing porn and being a sex maniac or else act horrified that I’d write such ‘trash’.
Also the general assumption I’ve had from many males is I’m some sort of nymphomaniac who jumps into bed with anyone and does every kind of weird sexual thing.
Just as authors who write adventures about killing people don’t actually go around with a huge machine gun shooting people, people who write erotic novels usually have a very happy stable relationship or are single like me without any sexual partner.

So next time you see an older woman who tells you she writes erotic romance say g’day – it just might be me!  ~ Suzy

PG13 EXCERPT:
They chatted a little about various jobs they both held. When he was called by someone else and moved away, Lucy casually glanced over at the hottie on the other side of the room.
Be still my beating heart. He was talking to another hottie!
This one looked a fraction taller, he had very dark, maybe black hair. His hair was like a wild halo around his head and his skin coloured a gorgeous rich deep burnt sienna. He had a much leaner frame but from here it looked all muscle. She couldn’t decide which one to drool over, they both looked absolutely delicious. She’d just have to lust over them both. She could see number two hottie wore a dark colour shirt and dark pants.
Hottie number one turned his head and their eyes met again. He gave her a definite smile then said something to his companion. He looked over at Lucy too and she found herself blushing. She fumbled with her drink and turned her head to look to the door.
Oh hell!
Rob was waving. She gave him a half-hearted smile and took another mouthful from her glass, only to discover it was empty. Somehow he managed to swim through the crowd and stand in front of Lucy.
“Can I buy you a drink, Lucy?”
She shook her head.
“No thanks, Rob.”
He looked disappointed.
“Dance?”
“Sorry, I told you I’m not much of a dancer.”
He looked her up and down.
“You look fantastic.”
“Thank you, Rob.”
“Hey, Lucy! Mark wants to see you, he’s near the bar.”
“Oh thanks, Margaret. Excuse me, Rob.”
She smiled at him in relief and silently thanked Mark as she made her way to the bar again. Nonchalantly glancing over to the other side of the room as she walked, Lucy noticed only one hottie there. She met Mark at the bar about to order drinks.
“Hey, Lou, just wondered of you wanted a drink. Margaret said she thought you’d finished yours and I wanted to buy you one before you left to say thank you for all the work you did for us.”
“Oh gee thanks, Mark.” Lucy quickly studied the mocktails list. “Can I have a Red Giant, please?”
It was a large glass filled with cranberry and strawberry juice then topped with lemon-lime soda. He ordered a large round of drinks and Lucy took hers from him as he put the others on a tray.
“Thanks Mark. I appreciate it and I enjoyed working with you all.”
She followed him back to the group but once again Rob intercepted her, this time at the side of the doorway again.
“I thought you didn’t want a drink.”
“I’m really sorry, Rob, it’s just Mark wanted to buy me one and I felt I should say yes because he is the office manager.”
She looked around, trying to see someone she knew nearby to save her from Rob but no one was looking.
“I asked you first,” he complained.
“I know you did and I said I’m sorry.”
In a gravelly voice he said, “Well, will you go out with me now?”
“No, sorry.” Lucy shook her head and tried to walk past him. He put his hand against the wall, preventing her from entering the lounge area without making a scene.
“I’m trying to be nice.”
“I know you are, Rob, and I appreciate it. I’m trying to be nice too but please, you have to understand I’m just not interested.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want to and as I told you before I’m involved with someone.”
Once more she tried to push past. He grabbed her wrist tightly and she was frightened by his reaction. He seemed angry.
“Please let go of my arm, Rob!” she hissed softly.
“Not good enough for you, am I?”
She looked wildly around. This was getting so out of hand.
She whispered through clenched teeth. “Please let me go, Rob.”
His hand actually tightened on her wrist. Lucy managed to keep hold of her glass but most of her drink spilt onto the floor. Suddenly a sexy male voice spoke behind her then kissed her cheek. She felt two hands on her shoulders, pulling her close.
“Babe! Sorry I’m late.”
She tensed, wondering what on earth was happening and who had his arms on her. She wondered if she should scream and felt her heart pound rapidly. Rob dropped her wrist and glared up at her rescuer. Her saviour held out his hand to Rob.
“Hi, I’m Sebastian, thanks for taking care of my girl.”

Chaos and a Contest today with @AuthorNicMorgan

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us everyone. I'm your tour guide for the day, Nicole Morgan and as some of you may have noticed I drop by with a new post on the first of every month and either ramble like a fool or amaze you with my intellect. LOL. Okay, yes that last one was a stretch, but...I've got you smiling now, don't I? Now that you're good and loosened up, go ahead and kick your shoes off, sit back, relax and enjoy!

Chaos and a Contest
Oh my besheesuz... why is it that whenever something goes wrong, Murphy (that pain in the tushy little law maker) decides that hey...you know what, I think I'll throw a few more wrenches into your day just to really screw with you? Well, Murphy has been doing that to me a lot lately. And I mean a lot. I'm normally a pretty positive person and try to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but come on...even I'm starting to lose a bit of my happy go lucky mojo. So this is my message to Murphy...cut the crap...I am a woman and I am prone to PMS and prone to bat-sh*t-idous so don't test me. *said with a sweet but dangerous smile*

To add to the chaos that has become my life, I am now running out the door to take my oldest to the doctor. Oh and did I mention I have a migraine? Yep! I mean does it get any better than that? But because I refuse to let anyone keep me down, I'm going to outwit Murphy by having a contest and spreading joy and happiness which I am sure will really stick it to him!

Nice try Murphy...I guess the April Fool's joke is on you! *victorious smile* So here goes...

**CONTEST**

From now until April 9th every person who comments below (with their email address will be entered to win 1 of 3 prizes - an eBook from my backlist of books

That's all for me this months, guys and gals.

Happily Ever After Anyone?

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us everyone. I'm your tour guide for the day, Nicole Morgan and as some of you may have noticed I drop by with a new post on the first of every month and either ramble like a fool or amaze you with my intellect. LOL. Okay, yes that last one was a stretch, but...I've got you smiling now, don't I? Now that you're good and loosened up, go ahead and kick your shoes off, sit back, relax and enjoy!

Happily Ever After Anyone?
Lately I've been witnessing people going through a rough time. You know, the ones who are wonderful people but have been handed more than their share of lemons and they haven't figured out how to make lemonade. At least not yet anyway. That's why I'm using today's post to revisit an oldie, but what I like to call a goodie. The below portion of my post is part of an earlier one I did right here on Romance Books 4 Us. Why am I reposting this, you ask? Well, since you did ask, I'll tell ya! *winks* Happily Ever After's don't grow on trees. And they're certainly not a fairy tale, so read this post and make sure that you know how to make an turn those lemons into the sweetest lemonade under the sun.

If only it were that easy, right? You could just stroll on into the local Love-Mart, peruse the different choices available to us in the life partner category, maybe add on a few last minute impulse buys they keep near the register like ‘extra charming’ or ‘devastatingly handsome.

Unfortunately no such “Mart” exists, and with the hustle and bustle of today’s fast paced world it’s hard to meet that person who will sweep us off our feet. A million different things can get in our way of finding that special someone who falls head over heels in love with us despite our many idiosyncrasies or flaws.

While all little girls have dreams of that prince charming who will swoop in and knock their glass slipper off, over time our image of him changes. Instead of having that almost porcelain look of perfection like we see in the fairy tales, we may now picture him with a rugged five o’clock shadow or maybe a tattoo here or hidden there.

Let’s face it we all can be pretty finicky with what we perceive to be out perfect mate. Is that realistic though? Are we ourselves perfect? Do we have the perfect body, the ideal shape, hair or eye color and look? One of the most amazing things about the human race is that we are all unique in our own special way. All of us, men and women alike come in different sizes, shapes and colors. The fact of the matter is the old adage “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is truer than any of us may realize.

What if that one person who gives us butterflies, makes us feel like we’re floating on a cloud and gives us more love than we ever dreamed possible is right there underneath our noses, but merely come in a package which looks different than our minds eye had envisioned? What if we are so busy looking for perfection we are missing the beautiful opportunity before us? What if we take a moment and just look around? What if?

Don’t limit yourself with fantasies that really only belong on the pages of a fiction novel. The true happiness you find may be even better than what you hoped for.

That's all for me this months, guys and gals.
I'll see you here next month,
same bat time, same bat channel.

Until then you can tide yourself over with my winter anthology,
'Tis the Season for Seduction
