Do You Have a Favorite, Holiday Story?

I will be the first to admit that I'm not a marketing genius. That said, I will admit to one personal reading habit that has influenced my career. I love holiday stories. During the Christmas season, you can find me glued to the Hallmark channel. They've made so many of them now that I will watch the reruns of old favorites as many times as they'll televise them. Don't get me started on books. I have my favorites and I read them over and over.

And then, there's Valentine's Day. Who wouldn't love a day celebrated with candlelight dinners, chocolate and heartfelt gifts? A couple of years ago, I participated in the RED STILETTO multi-author series about a pair of legendary stiletto's that were shared by four friends who bought them at an estate sale during their annual New Year's celebration. My contribution, HEAD OVER HEELS included a Valentine's Day charity ball given by hero, Rhys Vincent's foundation.

Head Over Heels—Book One—Red Stilettos
By Paris Brandon

Ellora’s Cave

Excerpt: PG13

Rhys Vincent ground his back teeth and took Veronica Smith–Hathaway’s elbow as they crossed the street. It was snowing and not for the first time did he wish he were wearing boots instead of dress shoes with his tux. Ronnie didn’t seem to notice the puddle that soaked her designer heels or the frigid wind that tore at the edges of her flimsy black evening coat. Neither had been designed for January in Kansas City.

Veronica—Ronnie—was his best friend Brian’s estranged wife. She had insisted she knew a shop that had the fedora they needed to complete the scavenger-hunt list—right after he’d politely refused her offer to give him the best sex of his life. Was it too much to ask for a woman who didn’t have an agenda to want to have sex with him? He’d been down the revenge-sex path years ago and it was one he didn’t want to take with a woman he’d known for twenty years.

He’d promised Brian that he’d keep an eye on her and that meant he couldn’t very well let her walk around alone in the Crossroads art district after dark.

As CEO of the Vincent Foundation, he’d put Veronica in charge of the annual event as a favor. One he was coming to regret. He was still trying to figure out why Brian was so worried about a wife he’d clearly been neglecting for the past year when Ronnie leaned over and peered into a dimly lit shop.

“There it is,” she hissed, pointing at a weathered brown fedora, jauntily perched on a torso mannequin’s head. Before he could figure out why she was hissing, he glanced through the window, started to shout and everything went into slow motion.

He saw a pair of curvy legs that ended in sexy red spike heels leaning forward and overbalancing a rickety ladder. The bell over the door jangled as he pushed it open and sprinted three full strides. He reached her before she finished screaming.

“Her” was an armful of black and white fluff he grabbed and swept out of the way as the ladder fell.
Maybe he couldn’t breathe because she’d smacked him square in the chest but he didn’t think so. Although it could have been because her arms were wrapped solidly around his neck, as if she didn’t intend to let go anytime soon. Fine by him.

He didn’t know if she was shocked that he’d caught her or because she knew the shudder that rippled through her like a faint orgasm had telegraphed its way into his fingertips. She looked like a naughty fairy-tale princess with big blue eyes. A fall of silky dark hair brushed the top of her black turtleneck and her creamy cheeks were flushed as bright as an apple. She knew.

She blinked while he was trying to catch his breath and still his body’s clamoring need to explore all the soft, warm flesh under her skirt. He was trying very hard not be too obvious that he was instantly aroused by the fact that his right hand was wrapped around her naked thigh. And then he thought, What the hell, and slid his thumb beneath the top of her stocking where it hooked into her garter.

She put her very plump red lips together…and blew. Nothing came out and she looked as surprised as he felt. The chuckle built in his chest, the low rumble originating from someplace distinctly lower.

“Excuse me,” Veronica ground waspishly from behind him before coming into his line of vision. “Are you whistling at him?”

His surprise package turned her head slowly, her eyes widening as if just realizing that someone else was in the tiny, dimly lit shop. A smile quirked the corner of her lips and she shrugged.

“No, I was trying to whistle for him.” She turned her attention back to him and smiled warmly. “I do apologize for that,” she said, with a wistful sigh that caught him hard in the solar plexus. “You startled me.”

He did laugh then because it seemed rude not to acknowledge a heartfelt apology while he was still holding on to her satiny-smooth, very naked thigh, which was covered by yards and yards of hideous checked material he wished would just fall away. He lowered her to her feet while Ronnie seethed.

"I’m Bella—owner, operator, sometimes janitor,” she said, holding up a light bulb, “of Bella’s Treasures. Is there something I can do for you?” she asked as if she hadn’t noticed how much he’d been enjoying her naked skin. There was no mistaking the twinkle in her very blue eyes. She’d noticed.

How about you? Do you have a favorite holiday-centered romance that you've written or read?

Until next month,
Happy Valentine's Day!

Cupid Revealed ~ Rose Anderson

Yes, I'm teaching myself Photoshop. Funny, those thought bubbles were blank when I started...
:)

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I thought I’d give a nod to that rascally cherub – Cupid.

Depending on which mythology you ascribe to, this pudgy little deity is the immortal son of Venus (Aphrodite) and Mars (Ares) – an allegorical blending of love and war. Because he was the uniting power of love and therefore the bringer of order and harmony to the universe, some mythic tales make him a fundamental contributor in the formation of the world. A little known detail that gets overlooked as the lover’s holiday approaches: Cupid carries two arrows in his quiver – one of love and another of hate.

To the Orphic and Greek philosophers, he was the son of Nyx the Night and Boreas the North Wind – the first complete manifestation of Divinity. In other depictions, Cupid is considered a primordial god – an old one who came before Zeus and even before Zeus’ grandparents Gaia and Uranus. From the very beginning, even before the fabric of the universe was woven, Cupid personified love.

As Eros, his Roman counterpart, he was known far and wide as the god of passionate love. Fertility cults, and other things, rose in his honor. Some tales even have him with multiple heads, four eyes and various animal attributes. In other mythic versions, Cupid is blindfolded, and only the truest hearts will draw his blindly shot arrows. I had no idea Cupid was such a multifaceted little amorino.

When I met the love of my life, it was literally love at first sight for us both. I wasn’t looking, he wasn’t looking. It was fate. The arrow struck us both and it was totally unexpected. I write that love in my romances. I can see Cupid in my mind’s eye… his arrow notched on his bow. He’s tucked behind a tree or rock, poised to let his charmed arrow fly at just the right moment. When it hits, it’s totally unanticipated. It’s fate. Sometimes love is like that. Sometimes love waits in unexpected places. Has Cupid ever stuck an arrow in you? Please share in comments.

In honor of Cupid and his day, I’ve collected a few snippets from three of my favorite storylines. To me, they show the moment the arrow hits. I hope you enjoy.

Enchanted Skye
Inspired by an actual family legend and mythology. Here, an ancient charm captures a Selkie's heart.

He watched with mild interest from the rocks, but when Angus and the reverend walked back to the house, his interest got the better of him. He scooted a little closer and lifted his head to get a better view. He didn’t recognize this young woman on the land but watched her kneel before the pool. Her dark sable hair covered her face as she keened and for some reason he felt compelled to go to her side. He slid into the water and the closer he drew, the stranger he felt. Only feet from her now, he blinked the saltwater from his eyes and watched her. The wind whipped at her hair and the sea mist clung to her clothing as she hugged an urn tightly to her chest. He knew what he was seeing then. They’d scattered ashes on the water. He considered her. Who was this woman to Angus MacLeod?

The woman must have felt his presence for she looked up from her grief. Meeting his eyes, she looked startled to see him so close. She rose slowly and backed away.

His heart ached to watch her go and he found the feeling both perplexing and extraordinary. Then and there, he knew he had to meet her. Taking a breath, he plunged under the water and swam to the far side of the cliff where the sea cave sat undetected. On dry land now, inside the dark chamber, he peeled away his waterskin. And where flippers were a moment before, a man’s arms and legs appeared. Shaking out his spotted skin with a snap, he rolled it into a tight bundle and headed toward the passage.

The Witchy Wolf and the Wendigo
Inspired by the very real legend of the Wisconsin Wolfman.

Watch the trailer & more.
Ash rolled side to side, his tail wagging and teeth bared. Livie laughed, and it made him pause. He’d heard her laugh when she talked with Jenni, but he hadn’t heard her laugh like this, and never for him alone. The sound was merry and genuine and it made him happy. To his surprise, he wanted more. He craved her touch. He craved her. He nuzzled his nose under her hand. Touch me Livie.

She asked. “How did you heal so quickly? This just doesn’t make sense.”

Ash knew she spoke more to herself than to him but listening to her eased him. Heal? Yes, that’s what’s was happening. He felt the flutter in his chest and knew it for what it was. His heart was healing. He’d loved his wife with his heart’s every beat. He’d loved their precious child with his every breath. He always would. But because of this gentle, caring woman, he felt his shriveled heart expand for the first time since that monster stole his family from him. After a while her hand stopped its gentle caress and Ash knew she had fallen asleep. Listening to Livie’s regular breathing, he crawled up beside her and laid his heavy head across her chest. He closed his eyes and let her heartbeat lull him.

Loving Leonardo
Inspired by today's news headlines. An unusual, polyamorous, Victorian love story, with a touch of reader-interactive art history.

I sat Ellie and pulled a chair for Mrs. Ormont as she waited for her husband. A moment later, Colonel Ormont brought the historian to our table and made introductions. Luca Franco, late of Florence, was a Professor of Antiquities returning from London. I found the Italian quite the attractive fellow, impeccably dressed as he was. When in the presence of true beauty, my mind often imagines the person unclothed as the artists of the ages might have seen him. Sitting at my table was a statue carved in marble by Gian Lorenzo Bernini; an artist known for his remarkable ability to capture the essence of a narrative moment. And I found Luca Franco to be exactly that — a moment indelibly captured in time — a moment of meeting the mind could revisit in its entirety.

From every angle, he was beautifully made: black-haired, of medium build, and physically fit. He possessed a warm hue to his skin, his lineage no doubt stamped centuries past by the darker Moors or Turks. In startling contrast, and quite handsomely framed by black lashes, he had striking eyes the color one might see in a shadow falling across snow — not quite sky blue nor exactly steel gray, but a blending of the two in gradated rings.

I rose to shake his hand and felt the unmistakable current of compatibility. If this man weren’t forward in his mutual attraction, it was there nonetheless. I watched him bow over the ladies’ hands and found it curious that he lingered over Ellie’s fingers a tad longer. It made me smile. I had the distinct impression I was in the presence of a fellow dual-nature like myself.

Interview of Author Jayne Ann Krentz

Welcome! Recently I managed to pull Jayne Ann Krentz (AKA Amanda Quick, AKA Jayne Castle) away from her work to chat a little bit with us about life, her writing, and her new release, RIVER ROAD. As a fan, I'm super excited to bring this interview to all of you.

Giveaway Alert!
After you're finished reading, be sure to leave a note to Jayne in the comments section below. On Friday, TWO commenters will be chosen at random to win a free copy of Jayne's newest release, RIVER ROAD. Squee!

Q:  Tell us about your new release.

A:  RIVER ROAD is my return to straight romantic-suspense -- no paranormal involved.  It has been a while since I’ve written a book that doesn’t have a psychic twist.  It was a lot of fun to go back to the “pure” form of what has always been my favorite genre.  Hey, I grew up on Nancy Drew.

Q: You write under three pen names: Jayne Ann Krentz, Amanda Quick, and Jayne Castle.  What is the biggest challenge for you when juggling so many names?

A:  I’ve never thought of having three names as a challenge.  Each of my names suits a particular world and I find it refreshing to write in the various fictional landscapes.  Different plots and different kinds of characters work in different worlds. When I come out of one world, I can’t wait to dive into another landscape.  I can’t move back and forth between worlds when I’m in the middle of a story, though.  Can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, I guess.  When I’m in one world and a particular story I can’t leave it until it’s done.

Q: You've said:  "It took me six years to get published and during that period I told myself over and over again that it was hopeless; that I should give it up and concentrate on my real career (I was a librarian)." What made you keep going? What would you recommend other writers do who might be going through this dark time?

A:  I kept going because I literally could not stop writing.  It is an addiction and, like all addictions, it has a dark side.  But I love it.  As for what I would do differently in today’s market, that’s easy – I would not hesitate to self-publish.  But that option was not available when I started out.  Here’s a blinding flash of the obvious: The world has changed!  Writing is a self-taught craft.  Writers learn by writing.  I see no good reason not to start out on your own.  If one of the big publishers comes calling, that’s great.  But why not get going on your own future?

Q: You've said: "[Romances] are books that celebrate women's heroic virtues and values: courage, honor, determination and a belief in the healing power of love." Who are some of your favorite romance authors who really show off these strengths?

A:  Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Christina Dodd, and  Elizabeth Lowell are a few of my favorites.

Q:  You are an incredibly prolific writer.  How do you write so many books?

A: I write at the pace that suits me.  Every author I know has her own pace.  It is what it is.  If I tried to write more slowly I would lose interest in my story.  By the same token, I can’t speed up very much, either.  For the whole of my career it has always taken me about the same length of time to write a book.

Q:  Do you ever suffer from “burn out?” What are some things you do to refresh and recharge between projects?

A:  I’m never sure how to answer this question because I don’t know exactly what “burn-out” means.  If you are a storyteller, the stories just come.  The hard part is turning off the tap. For as long as I can remember I have always told stories to myself.   There is always one waiting in the wings and it doesn’t take much to trigger it.  Now, it may not be a great story – it may not be a marketable story – but there’s always a story hanging around.   And in my experience, creativity begets creativity.   I suspect that what most people mean by burn-out is simply loss of interest in a story.   I don’t know of a cure for that except to move on to another story.    I think one of the biggest mistakes beginning writers are inclined to make is to write a story to death.  When that happens, everything, including the writer, goes flat.

Q:  What is your favorite part about being an author?

A:  Watching a book come together.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen for me until I get to the very end and then – suddenly – I find out where I’ve been going all along.  There is a reason they call the first draft the “discovery draft.”

Q:  What do you do when you’re not writing?

A:  Cook, shop and travel; not necessarily in that order.

Q:  Which one of your many characters do you feel is most like you? In what way(s) are you two alike?

A:  I never think of any of my characters as being like me.  However,  all of my heroes and heroines do share my own core values.  I could not write one who went against those values.  I have always said that if you enjoy my books, it is probably because we share similar core values.

Q:  You mentioned in other interviews that your typical day starts at 7AM and you write until noon. How do you stay so disciplined? When you are going through a rough patch in your personal life, how do you stay focused on the story?

A:  I took the discipline of the work world into my writing world.  But that was easy for me to do because I have always been a fairly disciplined person.  (Hmm.  Note to self: Consider writing some BDSM erotica).   Ahem.  Where was I?  Oh, yes – I like my work routine so I tend to stick to it.  Sometimes life gets in the way, of course.  When that happens I deal with it.

Q:  What one item can you never leave the house without?

A:  A credit card.  I consider retail therapy at Nordstrom to be the most effective therapy for me.

Q:  Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what kind of music?

A:  I love music -- Mozart and serious Rock – but I can’t listen to it when I write.  Too distracting.

Q:  What was the most outrageous thing you've ever done?

A:  Sadly, I am not a very outrageous person.  I save the outrageous stuff for my characters.

Thank you so much Jayne for stopping by and spending some time with us. We're honored!

Okay, now it's your turn. Do you have a question for Jayne? Leave it in the comments section below. If you don't have a question, that's fine. Comment on the interview, or how much you love her books. Reminder: Just be sure to leave a comment, because on February 7th, TWO commenters will be randomly chosen (through random.org) to win a free copy of Jayne's newest release, RIVER ROAD!!

From the New York Times—bestselling author of Dream Eyes and Copper Beach, a brand-new quintessential Jayne Ann Krentz romance.
It’s been thirteen years since Lucy Sheridan was in Summer River. The last time she visited her aunt Sara there, as a teenager, she’d been sent home suddenly after being dragged out of a wild party—by the guy she had a crush on, just to make it more embarrassing. Obviously Mason Fletcher—only a few years older but somehow a lot more of a grown-up—was the overprotective type who thought he had to come to her rescue.

Now, returning after her aunt’s fatal car accident, Lucy is learning there was more to the story than she realized at the time. Mason had saved her from a very nasty crime that night—and soon afterward, Tristan, the cold-blooded rich kid who’d targeted her, disappeared mysteriously, his body never found.

A lot has changed in thirteen years. Lucy now works for a private investigation firm as a forensic genealogist, while Mason has quit the police force to run a successful security firm with his brother—though he still knows his way around a wrench when he fills in at his uncle’s local hardware store. Even Summer River has changed, from a sleepy farm town into a trendy upscale spot in California’s wine country. But Mason is still a protector at heart, a serious (and seriously attractive) man. And when he and Lucy make a shocking discovery inside Sara’s house, and some of Tristan’s old friends start acting suspicious, Mason’s quietly fierce instincts kick into gear. He saved Lucy once, and he’ll save her again. But this time, she insists on playing a role in her own rescue . . .
Booklist (starred review). “Irresistible: scintillating humor, stunning suspense, & sexy romance.”

Library Journal (*starred* review): “Wonderfully appealing protagonists, a clever, skillfully crafted plot, soul-stirring sensuality, and delicious flashes of humor result in a classic tale of romantic suspense.”

Biography:

The author of a string of New York Times bestsellers, JAYNE ANN KRENTZ uses three different pen names for each of her three "worlds". As JAYNE ANN KRENTZ (her married name) she writes contemporary romantic-suspense. She uses AMANDA QUICK for her novels of historical romantic-suspense. JAYNE CASTLE (her birth name) is reserved these days for her stories of futuristic/paranormal romantic-suspense.

"I am often asked why I use a variety of pen names," she says. "The answer is that this way readers always know which of my three worlds they will be entering when they pick up one of my books."

In addition to her fiction writing, she is the editor of, and a contributor to, a non-fiction essay collection, DANGEROUS MEN AND ADVENTUROUS WOMEN: ROMANCE WRITERS ON THE APPEAL OF THE ROMANCE published by the University of Pennsylvania Press. Her commitment to her chosen genre has been strong from the very beginning of her career. Each year at the annual convention of the Romance Writers of America she participates in a special day-long workshop for librarians and speaks on the importance of the romance genre.

"The romance genre is the only genre where readers are guaranteed novels that place the heroine at the heart of the story," Jayne says. "These are books that celebrate women's heroic virtues and values: courage, honor, determination and a belief in the healing power of love."

She earned a B.A. in History from the University of California at Santa Cruz and went on to obtain a Masters degree in Library Science from San Jose State University in California. Before she began writing full time she worked as a librarian in both academic and corporate libraries.

She is married and lives with her husband, Frank, in Seattle, Washington.

HAPPY GROUND HOG DAY and SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

OMG! It’s Ground Hog Day! Since I’m writing this blog the day before, I’m not sure if the little bugger will see his shadow or not. All I want is for this cold winter to be over as soon as possible. The weather around the entire country has been crazy. I’m in Florida, and we’ve been freezing for a few days to a week then back to 80’s then back again to cold. I’ll be surprised if my family gets through this season without being very sick. I moved to Florida to escape the long winters and cold ten years ago, and I can’t imagine what everyone else is going through.

Now all the hoopla about this day will be lost with today also being Super Bowl Sunday! Those poor teams having to play in the freezing cold makes me shiver thinking about them. Burrrr! I guess that’s why they get paid the big bucks. Shhh! Don’t tell my husband, but I only watch for the commercials. I’ll fix the appropriate football watching goodies like chili with cornbread, a vegetable tray, cheese and crackers, and onion dip with chips. Oh and bring on the beer! Yep, I’ll be cuddled on the sofa watching those players freeze their b—

Okay, I’ll keep it clean. Anyway, I’ll keep this short today because I’m sure everyone is more interested in watching the game than reading my post.

For anyone who is reading this, I’ll leave a little snippet from my silly little vampire story about The Misadventures of Dick Grewcock.
EXCERPT:
“Now, now, Dick, bear up. We’re still friends, right? If you are uncomfortable, call me Vlad or Andreaus. I’d even be okay with Andy. Sounds more modern. I can accept any of those salutations. Depends on my mood. Actually, I think Master Vlad still reflects the real me—more in control, dominant, a manly vampire’s name.” Vlad’s voice deepened the more he spoke.
“Oh whatever. I’ll call you Vlad.” Dick softly harrumphed and slumped in the chair. “My complaint. Can we discuss me now?”
“Yes, of course.” The Master rustled through a few pieces of paper. “Let’s see, the paperwork states you transitioned on Halloween night. Everything proceeded without a hitch.” He glanced up from the papers, then continued, “A glorious night All Hallows Eve. I love the holiday. A majority of humans assume the identities of creatures of the night. At least they think they are.” He chuckled, flicking his hands in the air a few times. “Such revelry and debauchery. Yes, I believe Halloween is my favorite time of the year.”
“Excuse me, but we’re a little off subject again. Can we talk about my problems, please?”
“Oh yes, sorry. I get carried away sometimes. Where was I? Oh yes, tell me what aspects of your new life are you having difficulties with, Dick.”
“How ‘bout I start with this?” Dick closed his eyes, tensed his body, opened his mouth, and fangs dropped down. They were over an inch in length, and he stretched his lips wide to accommodate the size. The tips barely punctured his lower lip, drawing a small amount of blood. “Ouch.”
“Oh my, what big teeth we have, grandma.”
“That’s not thunny. I canth talk wight. These dan teets get in the way. I sound like a horon. I has to oken eye outh so wide each tine, eye jaw hurts like health. I ite eye ottom lis erery tine.”
“Hmm, I understand, sort of.” Master Vlad waved his hand in the air and said, “I can have this little problem fixed in no time. Really, this is not a big deal. I’ll set you up with the corporate dentist, and he can repair the minor inconvenience you’re having.” He jotted something down on paper and returned attention back to Dick. “Why don’t you retract your teeth so I can understand you better? With the dental problem resolved, what else is bothering you, Dick?”
In a blur, the fangs retracted into his gums. He reached into a jacket pocket and pulled out the VRU pamphlet. “Okay, it says here, ‘becoming a vampire is an opportunity to develop into a better you in every way. You stop aging and gain enhanced looks.” He winked. “You become one of the Beautiful People.” Dick glanced up from the pamphlet and stared at his sire. “Hello? Look at me. What the hell are these red circles around my eyes? And what’s up with the pasty-white color over my entire body? I resemble one of those Kabuki actors on his last leg. I’m fairly certain no kimono or red lipstick will help.”
“Oh, Dick, don’t be silly. You’re a good-looking vampire, and you should try Blood Red by Maybelline. The long-lasting blend which lasts all night is what I find works best. Doesn’t smudge or rub off when you bite hard. I have the same shade on tonight.” He smacked his lips. “By the way, speaking of actors, can you sing and dance? If so, I got a memo today from one of my clients looking to hire at both Disney World and Universal Studios, a great opportunity.” He leaned over the wooden desk and lowered his voice. “You know when you work for either company, you get discounts. Oh, such fun. I’m a little kid all over again when I visit the parks. I especially enjoy the fireworks display during special events or the electric parade. Have you been to their night shows yet?”
Dick rolled his eyes. “Uh, no. Can we get back on subject here?”
“Oh sorry, I get excited about amusement parks. Okay, where were we? Oh yes, your pasty-colored skin. Are you feeding enough on whole blood, and not the synthetic shit blood pushers sell on the corner streets?”
“Yeah, I followed the protocol, exactly as you said in the manual and even have a couple bottles of the blood soda to supplement, but I still look like death warmed over. I’m not the virile, good-looking stud the literature promises. This guy here in the company’s pamphlet is handsome and built. Do I look anything resembling him? No!” Dick held up the brochure and pointed to a picture on the cover.
“Seriously, Dick? Xavier is a professional actor for all our promotional ads. Yes, he’s a vampire, but he was a top model before he turned. Of course, he’s going to remain the handsome, gorgeous man he was in human form. Considering your interest in being a lawyer, I’m surprised you didn’t read the small print. Dick, Dick, Dick, the first rule of contractual law—Read the small print.” Vlad’s voice raised an octave.
“What? You’re lecturing me. What is this caveat emptor lessons? False advertising, that’s what this is, and no amount of buyer beware posting flushes in my toilet. How many other suckers did you rip off? I should report you to the Better Business Bureau.”
“Suckers? Oh real funny. Good one.” The Master leaned back in his chair and held his stomach, laughing almost hysterically. He stopped and took on a serious expression. “Seriously. Now calm down. There’s no need for threats. Xavier is the exception to the rule for handsome vampires, and you on the other hand, well, shall we say, had a few imperfections. Turning vamp doesn’t change your features entirely. They’re enhanced perhaps, but not altered to be any way you want or what you assumed they’d be after you turned. Now, let’s see if we can come up with an acceptable remedy. What do you think?”
“Possible, I guess.” He sheepishly lowered his head. The meeting quickly shifted from his favor. Woo hoo. Score one for Master Vlad.
“I can’t believe you are so displeased, Dick. You are the first man to ever complain about being vampire. I’m sorry. Not true, there was a teensy, weensy village in Romania a few hundred years ago. Men and women complained, but the incident happened a long time ago. They eventually got over their melodramatic moods. I—”
“Vlad, my situation, please?”
“Fine. You don’t have to be so huffy. I wanted to explain you aren’t the first to file a complaint. I changed my company policy after the slight medieval uprising. I guarantee all my transformations now. I’m of the Old World and am an honorable man. To make you happy, I will put you in contact with Doctor Aaron Bowman, our cosmetic surgeon on retainer. He can do a nip here and a tuck there, and you’ll be a new man. Will you be delighted with our services then?”
“I’m supposed to trust a vampire physician to cut on me while I’m unconscious? Are you serious? No, I don’t think surgery is for me.”
“Hmm, let me suggest an alternative medicine then. Perhaps the natural herbs and elixirs you can add to your blood supply will help enhance certain features. I’ll give you the address of the store. It’s at the corner of Mills and Colonial. Not hard to find.”

Until next month,

Happy February everyone. For many February can be one of the most stressful months. Not only do we have a few less days than usual to get a whole months worth of work in, but we also have to rush around and find the perfect, most romantic and at the same time affordable gift for our Valentine. Which, let's face it...isn't always that easy. Well, for those who do suffer from Valentines woes, I have some tips over on my blog to help you out. However, that's not what my post is about. Today I'm talking about getting married!

A year and a half ago my younger guy (yes, I'm a cougar LOL. Would you like to hear me RAWR) finally decided it was time to settle down and proposed to me. This is the second marriage for the both of us and since I had the big wedding first I was more than willing to elope to Vegas. But, his marriage hadn't involved a big shin dig and he'd gotten married in front of the justice of the peace without his family. So...the big wedding idea was born. And that was when we started planning the wedding of both of our dreams.

For the first time in years I finally felt like I was getting that happily ever after that all little girls dream of. However, like with all fairy tales, real life gets in the way and slaps us upside the head like a migraine headache after a New Year's Eve drinking binge. As some of my friends know, due to some health issues within my family, we have postponed the wedding twice because it was important to us that we have all those we love so much there with us on our big day. In addition to that, Josh, a wonderful man who Zac and I both adored and was to perform our ceremony was killed in a car accident on December 26th. This was a devastating loss for his wife and children as well as those whose lives he touched, and made me realize even more just how precious life is.

Well, now that those health issues are starting to get better we now have a new date and only nine months to throw everything together. So, suffice it to say, I will be doing a lot of girlie things in the next several months. Not that I'm complaining. I'm actually starting to enjoy it. He has a way of making me feel young again. You know, when I ditch the walker and take my back pills. Ha! :-)

So for today's post, in this month dedicated to our special someone's I thought I'd share a few things of what we do have worked out for the wedding.

Here is a picture of the reception room and these are our colors as well.

Now that we have our table designs done, the place selected and a few other things checked off the list, that means we only have.... about a million other things to do. So have a good Valentines' Day everyone. I will be knee deep in Bride's Magazines and watching a whole lot of TLC's Say Yes to the Dress
