Today's #Guest #Interview #romanticsuspense ALL THOSE MILES I WALKED by @ViviMackade

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us, a place for all romance and all genres. We’re very happy to have you here with us today. First, tell us a little bit about yourself…

I’m Viviana, from south Florida by way of England and, before that, Italy. I write contemporary suspense, but ready to dip my laptop into the Fantasy genre (this is kind of a newsflash).

-What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?
It depends of the subject. As a general rule, I research enough to get me started, then I research as I go. Which sometimes gets me stuck for a day or two because I’m nuts and I at that point I want to know EVERYTHING about a subject.

-Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing?  If so, what is it?
Fantasy. There. I said it. Which means when the third and final book in the Crescent Creek Series will be done (September–just saying) I’ll have to start writing this new thing buzzing in my head.

-Do you ever see yourself as the heroine/hero or find yourself relating to them when you write a story?
Oh, no! I’m nowhere near that interesting and/or gutsy. I’d be the lamest Heroine ever.

-What is your favorite method of writing...as in laptop, desktop, iPad or the old-fashioned pencil and paper?  And do you plot out your story or go with the flow of your muse?
It’s computer for the actual writing, but good ole’ pencil and paper to plot, note, and the such. I’m a hybrid, meaning I need to have a general idea about the book, for which I’ll plot, and then let the character move through it freely.

-When you need a break or some time off from the trials of being a writer, what can you be found doing?
Taking a walk with my earbuds blasting music. It used to be jogging, but I have MS and jogging doesn’t happen anymore. So, I walk.

-Share your favorites:
Favorite color – purple
Favorite dessert/snack – tiramisu (when I make it) / cinnamon rolls
Favorite Season – Spring when I was in Europe. Here in Florida, winter.
Favorite sad song – Tonight I’m Gonna Cry by Keith Urban
Favorite Romantic movie – Australia
Favorite Actor – Too many I like–I’m such a tramp….
Favorite way to relax – walking or pool

All Those Miles I Walked
by Viviana MacKade

At eighteen, DJ made a choice–her heart or her dreams. Neither was wrong, yet either would break her heart. She chose the world. Over a decade later, she returns to Crescent Creek and to the one regret she's ever had–Scott.

Scott’s always been steady as a rocky reef. He’d loved once and when she’d left, his strong heart had crumbled like a sandcastle. Now DJ is back, and Scott wants nothing to do with her. If only Eva, his and DJ’s old friend, didn’t need their help. Because of her, he’s stuck with DJ and he’d be damned, she still gets under his skin.

DJ is a free spirit who needs the road under her feet. Scott is a family man who wants to groom his roots. With danger on their doorstep and a baby to keep safe, how much are they willing to compromise for love?

SPOTLIGHT ON Carmen Cook and Coming In Hot

Please Welcome Contemporary Romance Author Carmen Cook to Romance Books for Us!

Tell us a little about the kinds of romance you write.
I write small town romance, set in Montana (so, of course it’s small town!) with heroines who don’t need to be saved and heroes who will move mountains to win their hearts.

How did your writing career begin?
As a young mother I started reading romance and would make up stories for secondary characters. My wonderful husband encouraged me to join RWA and give writing my own characters a try.

Are you indie, traditional or hybrid?
Currently indie.

What advice would you give new writers?
Write. Read. Write some more. And keep writing. Don’t give up when things get hard, because they will. Writers write.

Favorite snack while writing?
It depends on the time of day. But, coffee. Wine. Those count as snacks, right?

What is your superpower?
Well, I’m a mom, so… 😉

What is your spirit animal?
Hummingbird

What color is your aura?
I have no idea!

Tell us about your latest release!
Coming In Hot is the story of Regan Sinclair who couldn’t wait to get out of her small town. But now she’s unemployed, divorced and looking for new beginnings. And, along the way, she might just find a love she’d given up on.

Here's the Back Cover Copy:
She’s at a crossroads.

Regan Sinclair swore nothing would ever bring her back to Sapphire Creek. But a failed marriage and unemployment are strong motivators. It’s time to brave the demons she left in her past. Alone.

He thought she was through with him.

Gavin McCabe rarely thinks of Regan, or the one incredible night they spent together. Not since she walked out of his life without a backwards glance. But when she walks back into his life, he sees the opportunity for answers. And maybe a second chance for love.

Neither see love coming…and it’s coming in hot.

An overwhelming attraction flares to life every time the two of them are near each other, but their heat is quickly overshadowed. Their tight knit community is facing an unknown threat and Regan seems to be in the middle of it. Can she find solid ground with Gavin before this unknown menace crushes their burgeoning relationship?

Coming up next!

Carmen Cook fell in love with reading when her parents told her she could stay up thirty minutes past bedtime if she was reading. From then on she’s been sleep deprived with a book nearby. When her imagination started warring with the words on the page, she joined her local RWA chapter and started writing her own books.

When not behind a keyboard, Carmen chases her sons and husband around the football and soccer fields while trying to avoid the Pacific Northwest rain. She loves connecting with other authors and readers. Visit her website, www.carmencooknovels.com to sign up for her newsletter and keep up with everything that’s happening in Carmen’s world.

Author Marianne Rice visits the #RB4U Blog today! #AtFirstBlush @mariannericeaut

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us, a place for all romance and all genres. We’re very happy to have you here with us today. First, tell us a little bit about yourself…

Please tell us a little about yourself…
Thank you for having me today! A little about myself...well, I’m a mother of three crazies--16,14, and 11 years old--(which also makes me a chef, maid, servant, chauffeur, therapist, judge, and nag), a wife of an overworked and incredibly loyal husband, a full time teacher, a writer, and a lover of dark chocolate, wine, and Chris Hemsworth.

What or who initially inspired you to become a writer?
No one in particular, but I fell in love with the contemporary romance genre. After reading hundreds and hundreds of books, stories of my own started forming in my mind. It was when I was home on maternity leave with my then 4, 2, and newborn that I started writing.

What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?
Well, it didn’t start out as book research, but a few years ago my sister-in-law and a few friends of ours visited some local wineries and we fell in love. I especially love the story of the Zanellos of Zorvino Vineyards in Sandown, New Hampshire. What a fun couple and a gorgeous vineyard! I was hooked not only on their fabulous wine, especially their Fragole Z (a strawberry blend wine) and Mapplez (apples and maple syrup!). From here, At First Blush was formed, and then my Well Paired series fell into place.

Do real life events find their way into your stories?
I don’t force them, but if something in my life has inspired a story, or I’ve said, that has to go in a book, it will. The opening scene in Wilde for You is loosely based on real events and many of the conversations and one-liners from kids in my books come from my son.

When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?
I write when I can. I go in spurts of writing every day and then not at all for months at a time. As a teacher, the summer gives me the most writing time. I write a lot during school breaks as well. I make yearly writing goals since my days are dictated by crazy sports schedules.

Do you ever see yourself as the heroine/hero or find yourself relating to them when you write a story?
I don’t write myself into stories intentionally, but I’ve found pieces of myself in characters. Rayne, the middle sister in Sweet on You is the one I can identify with the most. She is always taking care of everyone else, trying to be the peacemaker in the family. I can relate. Other than that, there may be a line here or there that I’ve said to someone at some point in time, but I don’t base any of my characters on family or friends.

Do you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?
When the kids were little, I could only write when they were in bed. Now that they’re older, I write where I can. I’m currently sitting by the fire while my middle is in the kitchen making pancakes for her friends who slept over last night. In the summer, I write in my bed when I wake up. At night, I write in my office. I guess weather and time are a factor.

As a reader, what types of genres do you enjoy? And do you think they influence the genre/genres you write in?
I love contemporary romance and women’s fiction. My new release, At First Blush, is a blend of both. Some of my favorite contemporary romance authors are “crossing over” and I love the genre. But really, I just write. When I type THE END I figure out what genre it is. My Well Paired series seems to be a blend as well. It’s romance driven, but a lot of family and emotional angst woven in.

What is your ideal romantic vacation?
Warm weather, chaise lounge, cocktails, books...oh, wait. You said romantic. ;-) I suppose anywhere with my husband without the kids. Which rarely happens. If we can combine my first response and add my husband at my side, I’m good!

At First Blush is now available!!

Alexis Le Blanc enjoys her simple life in Crystal Cove, Maine. After taking a chance on romance and getting rejected, she has given up on love. Now she devotes all her time to running her family’s winery, Coastal Vines. She wants to keep it small and traditional, but her parents have other ideas—hence why they hire some big-shot marketing executive from Napa Valley to rev up business.
When Benito Martelli shows up in her family’s tasting room, she’s more than stunned to discover he’s the man who wined and dined her the night before. Alexis is beyond peeved at his deception in trying to get into her good graces for the sake of making money on her winery. At first, she wants nothing to do with him or his big business ideas, but she’s pleasantly surprised when they come to a compromise, and even more surprised when she gives in to the sparks between them.

Unfortunately, things don’t go quite as planned and Alexis is faced with complications she never could have predicted. Promises and secrets unravel, and she must decide if love and wine are as well paired as she hoped.

Guest Post ~ Paige Warren

Hi, everyone! Paige Warren here. Thanks so much for having me on the blog today! I thought I’d share my latest release with you, which is a men-in-uniform story. There’s just something about a man in uniform that gets my heart racing! Living in a small town with a Navy base, I get to meet these heroes all the time, and I’m honored. I can never thank our service men and women enough for their sacrifice.

Sergeant’s Secret Baby by Paige Warren
Genre(s): Contemporary, Western, Military

About the Book:

When Shiloh Anderson’s ex left her stranded in a bar, with no clothes, no car, and no money, the last thing she expected was to have a one-night stand with the sexiest man she’d ever seen. But the soldier left more than just a lasting impression with her, he left her pregnant.

Sergeant Drake Edwards is a lot of things, but he’s never been an asshole. Until the nameless woman from his one-night stand sends him an email claiming to be pregnant with his baby. Demanding a paternity test seemed reasonable enough to him, but he didn’t count on how damn stubborn she could be.

When Drake is injured and is forced to return home, he’s brought face to face with Shiloh once more, and her beauty nearly takes him to his knees. Facing death changes a man, and Drake is determined to do whatever it takes to claim his baby—and the woman he can’t stop thinking about.

Who is Lillith? Find out in KISSES FROM LILLITH by @Adele_Downs

Short fiction is fun to write and a good way for authors to experiment with romance subgenres. Though my published stories are typically contemporary romances, I like to write the occasional paranormal, also set in the contemporary world. In Her Immortal Viking, a warrior cast into eternal servitude by an angry god returns to earth in the modern world to help a woman in need. Lip Service features an overprotective ghostly aunt who stands in the way of true love. My new release Kisses

From Lillith is a steamy vampire story and my third paranormal romance.
Though much of the action in Kisses From Lillith takes place inside a cave as old as the earth, what happens there is…well, you’ll have to read the story to find out. And I hope you will! For only 99 cents and an hour of your time, you can immerse yourself in paranormal entertainment with a twist. Find out why Readers’ Favorite reviews gave the book 5 Stars and said: “Adele Downs has presented something fresh and new.”

KISSES FROM LILLITH by Adele Downs
A sizzling short story with bite.
When Hunter receives an invitation for a group tour of an ancient cave to celebrate his cousin’s birthday, he and his girlfriend Rosa unwittingly attend a party…with unusual refreshments.
Summary:
Hunter’s relationship with his girlfriend Rosa is on the rocks, and though his love for her hasn’t wavered, she has never said she loves him in return. When they accept an odd invitation for a group tour of an ancient cave to celebrate his cousin’s birthday, Hunter and Rosa’s fragile bond is tested to its limits when the powers of love and trust become their only weapons against the dark forces waiting inside.
“Wow! For a short story, this was a long, thrilling ride.” 5 Stars! ~Will Work For Books

It’s Only a Book with @pat_preston #Romance #Contemporary #RB4U

I thought it would be appropriate to include a photograph I took at a local bookstore closing with this blog post. Like so many others, time and change took its toll on the bookstore.

Take a good look at this photograph and think, as I did when I took it, about how much work had been put into the books stacked on these tables, now offered at 80% off. Each book represents a block of time taken from that writer’s life and, maybe, a little bit of their soul. That brings me to the motto: It’s Only A Book.

To help you deal with the complexity of being a writer, I’m sharing a few of my thoughts on It’s Only A Book.

Are you writing consistently? How long is it taking you to get a book finished? How many things do you let get in your way? The problem so many writers face is not getting their books finished. Do some evaluating and set priorities. It’s only a book if you get it finished.

When you’ve spent three months trying to perfect chapter one, remember: it’s only a book. It will never be perfect, and it doesn’t have to be. You have to be confident enough in your own abilities and your story to keep moving forward until it is written. Climb out of the revision trap and remember it is only a book. God knows where it will end up. On the 80% off table someday. See photograph when your confidence lags.

Getting published comes with a set of different problems but problems nonetheless. A contract is not a magic wand that wipes away all your writer angst. After all, it’s only a book. Not CPR. You are not going to die if your book flops and you are not going to bask in a continuous glow if it hits the NY Times list. That’s not how it works because a new story begins the process all over again.

And, when you have been stabbed in the heart by a rejection letter or a bad review, remember that is part of being a writer. Every writer has to face the cold reality that their baby will not be loved by everyone. But, it will be loved by someone who will think it is much more than a book.  Think MISERY…No, don’t do that.

Trust me, writing is full of turns and twists and great surprises even if it is only a book. I hope you will always enjoy the ride. I do!

Excerpt:

She picked up the letter opener. Her heart palpitated in sheer terror as she slid the opener under the flap of the envelope. With the envelope open, she peeped inside to see one folded sheet of stationery.
After six years, what could he possibly have to say?
She pictured him, standing beside a black truck in the drive of Royal Oaks, an old estate belonging to his grandmother. She recalled the date. June twenty-eighth. The day they had said goodbye had been a warm, blustery day in Tennessee. A summer storm was heading toward the rolling hills near Nashville.
The wind made a mess of Carson’s unruly dark hair. His dark blue eyes were hidden by a pair of mirrored lens aviators, and his alpha-male physique tested the seams of his polo shirt.
“If I’m ever back in town, I’ll look you up,” he promised as their casual affair came to an inevitable end. For three weeks, they had been together and finally, the time had come for them to go their separate ways. She hadn’t realized it would be so difficult.
“Sure.” She forced a smile of goodwill. After all, they weren’t parting in anger, or in love for that matter. And it was unlikely that she would ever see him again.
“I had a great time,” she confessed boldly. She’d loved every minute of their brief, steamy affair. Talk about a summer break to remember. She grinned.
He gave her cheek a stroke. “You’ll make a great doctor.”
“You think so?”
“Yeah.” He grinned. “You certainly know all there is to know about male anatomy.”
“Yours, at least.” She laughed. Then she hopped up on her toes and gave him a quick kiss. “Goodbye, Carson Blackwell.”
She stepped away from him. Now was the time to face what was ahead. A grueling three-year residency. There would be no more time for long summer nights, tangled sheets, and sighs against swollen lips. She walked toward her small, sturdy hatchback. Before she opened the driver’s door, she looked up and met his gaze.
“Goodbye,” he called.
At that moment, she’d had an odd sensation in her chest that her life was never going to be the same.

Real Love... Beyond Price with @Adele_Downs #Contemporary #Romance #RB4U

I’ve always been attracted to blond, blue-eyed, muscular men with sun-streaked hair and golden tans. Whether he’s on the beach in a lifeguard stand, wearing low slung cutoffs and work boots on a construction site, or dressed for business in a suit and tie, a blue-eyed blond will make my heart beat faster, every time.

I like blonds so much, I married one, and many of the heroes in my books have blue eyes like my husband and our son. The hero of my new release Luxury Model Wife, Steve Carlson, is the embodiment of the rugged, blue-eyed blond archetype who wears jeans, a t-shirt and work boots, and could be a model for a home improvement store. He’s also an Afghanistan war hero and a successful businessman who owns an upscale antiques shop catering to the country club set. When he meets the beautiful dark-haired, brown-eyed young widow of his best customer, Steve begins the most challenging journey of his life…on the road to happily ever after.

LUXURY MODEL WIFE by Adele Downs
Antiques expert Steve Carlson must face the mistakes of his past to discover a treasure he never imagined: the heart of a vulnerable yet determined widow.

TRUE RICHES
Twenty-eight-year-old Victoria Van Orr just lost everything. With the death of her billionaire husband went his mature patience and warm encouragement; and the veneer of acceptance from everyone else. His friends and colleagues now ignore Victoria, and if his son succeeds she just might be forced back to the streets upon which she was raised. But money was never her goal. All she wants is love. Real love.
Antiques expert Steve Carlson knows the value of everything. Pain and betrayal? Those he gave away--and now they're coming back. His worst mistakes were all with one man: an old friend, the son of a father figure, now the stepchild of a beautiful young widow who wants Steve to help her auction off the family estate. To help Victoria, Steve must face his past and become a better man. To find true love, he will discover her surprisingly pure heart, vulnerable yet determined. And beyond price.
