A letter from Mom with @WhitleyCoxBooks

A letter to my toddler. From the exhausted, frayed mind of a mother…
Dear Sweet, beautiful toddler of mine,
Now most mums  pledge, vow, degree or whatever that they will love you forever, like you for always (hate to break it to you sweetheart, but I only like you sometimes, other times I’m contemplating selling you on Etsy) that they would jump in front of a bus for you, take a bullet, lift a car off your body, give you the last cookie and all that lovely maternal stuff. And I mean all of that too, I really do. You are my magnum opus, the best thing I’ve ever made, and I can’t imagine my life without you.
But child…
I pledge, I solemnly vow, with the internet as my witness, that when I am old and gray and wrinkly, with WTF lines between my brows and holy shit creases on my forehead deeper than Valles Marineris (look it up, it’s a big canyon on Mars) that I will throw stuff out of the car and out of my wheelchair at the most inopportune time, just to piss you off. That when you are pushing me through the park for a leisurely stroll, talking about your children and how well they’re doing in school, I will be plotting how and when I can throw my dentures into the grass, and then wail and moan and cry about it, yelling “uh oh, uh oh” twenty seconds later. Sending you on a wild goose chase to look for them and then struggle to calm me down as I pitch an enormous fit over why I can’t put my caked-in-mud dentures back in my mouth.
That when you invite me over for dinner, I will take one bite of the meal (even if it’s delicious and I would normally lick the plate clean) and then throw my hands in the air and announce “all done” only to then open your fridge and stand in front of it for ten minutes. And I may or may not grab something, like a container of yogurt, take it to the floor, sit down and eat it with my hands right out of the tub. Or maybe I won’t eat that yogurt, maybe I’ll just finger-paint your leather couch with it, or wave my spoon around until flecks of yogurt splatter all over the room like beautiful abstract cultured dairy art, who knows? It may have you questioning my senility, and I obviously can’t speak for the future, but I can only hope that even senile I’ll have the sense of humor and wherewithal to exact my revenge.
I will never blame you for your birth or the grueling 29 hours of “discomfort” I endured to finally meet you, never. That was completely self-inflicted; I’d do it all again in a heartbeat if I had to. And I’m guessing you weren’t exactly enjoying those 29 hours either, so let’s just call that one a draw. But now my little peanut, my gorgeous human who has to carry her purse around wherever she goes, and with a smile so bright I’m forced to wear sunglasses indoors, all your weird little “quirks” are fair game for payback.
So, if one day you happen to find random pieces of celery or carrot sticks hidden among your bath towels or stuffed into the baseboard heaters, or you go to pull your covers back and there is a pair of dentures or an apple with some bite marks or a chunk of cheese lying on your pillow, don’t go all batshit cray-cray on your own children just yet. Maybe it wasn’t them, or maybe it was, maybe grandma taught them a new game (revenge minions!) but stop and think for a second before you ban little Euphegenia from her time machine for a week. Because maybe, just maybe it was grandma finally following through with her solemn vow, the pledge that she made all those years ago on a rainy fall afternoon, at her wits end, as she impatiently waited for the clock to hit 5:00 and the wine cork was popped. While you munched on Veggie Straws, oblivious to my frayed nerves and watched Paw Patrol with your friend. Because child, I love you, but revenge is a dish best served cold, just like my dinner, apparently.
xoxo
Quick & Dirty featured in the boxed set Sultry Nights
Humiliated and angry Parker Ryan is ready to erase every last trace of her ex from her mind, body, and soul. Of course, she can be adventurous. Exciting. Sexy. No matter what he said. She needs an exorcism, and Tate McAllister and the island of Moorea in Tahiti are just the man and place to do it. Tate is perfect for the job: billionaire resort owner, scuba instructor, philanthropist and, let’s face it, sex god. So maybe the affair isn’t the wisest move when she has to write her damn feature piece and review the hotel, but if he’s ready and willing to wow her in and out of the bedroom for the next ten days, the fling will be worth it. Parker can get the job done and have Tate fulfill all her fantasies, and she won’t, repeat won’t fall in love with the man. Even if every part of her wants to.

Hi, everyone, I’m Whitley Cox. I write contemporary erotic romance with beginner kink and lots of humor. My current series, The Dark and Damaged Hearts, is on the darker side, but some of my upcoming releases are much lighter. I do read in the same genre I write, but I also read a variety of other genres as well. I’m a big Game of Thrones fan, as well as Terry Goodkind’s the Wizard’s First Rule and anything by Diana Gabaldon or Rebecca Zanetti. I’m a stay-at-home mom to a two-and-a-half-year-old little girl, so my writing time is typically nap time with a fluffy dog on my lap, bedtime and on Saturdays when I go sit in Starbucks for hours. I’m a big tea granny, love the smell of coffee but not crazy about the taste and my favorite form of exercise is rebounder (everyone gets their own mini-trampoline!) I’m also an avid runner and when the words just aren’t happening I’ve been known to paint and/or bake. One thing that people might now know about me is that I’m a HUGE Young and the Restless fan. So, if you’re interested in discussing all things Genoa City, I’m your girl! You can find me pretty much everywhere. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, my website. Send me a message or just a quick “hi”, I love getting mail!

My story Lust Abroad is set in Peru. For our honeymoon my husband and I backpacked for six months through twelve countries. We had a modest DIY wedding, and chose to put all our saved money into the trip of a lifetime instead of a one-day party. We visited Central America, Peru, Easter Island and then headed over to South East Asia for the second half of our adventure. This wasn’t our first rodeo though, we backpacked Indonesia together a few years previous and I backpacked Thailand and Malaysia on my own. But even then nothing prepares you for some of the trials and tribulations a backpacker, thousands of miles away from home, in a foreign country where the language is different and the customs are different, faces. I’m not going to sugar coat things here Peru was a disaster for us. We were robbed not two hours after having landed, out of our hostel no less. They broke in, ransacked the place and took all our valuables. Then while in Cusco my husband ended up in the hospital. We’re experienced backpackers, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t thrown for a complete loop and contemplated giving up and going home.

If it hadn’t been for a couple of fellow Canadians I stumbled across in the police station in Miraflores and their overwhelming generosity and kindness, not to mention our stubbornness to not let Peru get the best of us we would have thrown in the towel. But we didn’t. We followed Elissa and Matt back to their hostel, met some incredible people then continued on with our trip. It wasn’t until Cusco where my husband fell ill with a gastro-intestinal bug and was admitted to the hospital just two days before we were set to go and hike to the ruins at Machu Picchu that I really got scared. Things and possessions are one thing, they’re replaceable, but when the love of your life is on a gurney in a foreign country and they’re using some rather unorthodox methods on him, that’s when the real fear sets in.

But again, we made it through. We didn’t take the Inca Trail, for obvious reasons, but we hiked the fifteen hundred steps to the top, then the twelve hundred steps to the top of the second mountain. We persevered, we did it together and we will carry those memories with us forever.

Now my story, Lust Abroad isn’t about a couple on their honeymoon, it’s about a second chance at happiness and love. Two broken hearts meet on an airplane and the attraction is instant. Fate has them both staying at the same hostel and from there the sparks fly. Throw in some comedy, hot sex and some maniacal gun-wielding drug lords and Lust Abroad is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat, turning pages and give you all the happy feels.

Despite our rough go in Peru I decided to write a story set there and weave in some of our experiences. Because rather than dwell on the negative things and get angry (believe me at the time I was homicidal) I’ve now decided to take what we learned, take our experience and turn it into a positive. We grew more as a couple in those two hellish weeks than I think we did in the entire six months of our trip. We’ve learned some valuable lessons about trust. Who you can trust and when you should trust your gut. And most of all we learned what is really important, and that’s being together. Yes, they stole our cameras (among other things), but we got a new one and moved one. We still have pictures and we’ll always have the memories and we’ll always have each other.

Women Humor and Rants with Whitley Cox #Womanhood #Manners #RB4U @WhitleyCoxBooks

So yesterday at the gym (sorry this is not book related at all, just an old fashioned rant) after class a few of us were standing around chatting, dripping with sweat, with rosy faces and an overall feeling of accomplishment but also wanting to barf. I'm friends with the instructor and we often talk afterward on the way to our cars, and she texts me when she's not going to be teaching so I don't bother going and just head out for a run instead. Somehow, as we were all getting ready to go, the topic of skin care came up. Now I've always been very honest and open about how I've struggled with temperamental skin all my life, and this week in particular Mother Nature has not been very kind. The curse is upon me, my uterus is angry and I'm borderline homicidal unless I have a heating pad on my stomach and the child is napping.

There were five of us women chit-chatting around, two were in their early fifties, one was twenty-seven, then there was me, thirty-something, and a twenty-two-year-old. The four oldest were bitching and moaning about our skin and how age seems to be creeping up on us in unfair waves. Hormones!?!? AmIright!?!?!! The fifty-year-olds were complaining about menopause while I was griping about saggy boobs and stretch marks. And then because you know, social norms be damned, the twenty-two-year-old decides to say, "I have really nice skin. It's so smooth. And all I use is Clean & Clear and wipes from Costco." We all turned and looked at her, mirror image WTF expressions on our faces. And then, as if completely oblivious to the current tone and topic, she proceeds to educate us on the naturally long length of her lashes. "And my eyelashes are like really long, like, I'm not even wearing any mascara right now, but it looks like I am." What the actual F?!

Way to kick four brood mares ready for the glue factory when we're already down on ourselves, looking like sweaty hot messes. So I turned to her and with the biggest smile and a chuckle in my tenor, and I said, "Fuck you!" Which of course, ignited laughter from the rest and they all nodded and reiterated my proclamation. The little millennial twink just smiled and giggled, meanwhile inside I was seriously contemplating using some of the moves we'd just done in kickboxing and back kicking that pretty little perfect complexion of hers. But no, instead I just laughed again and said, "Enjoy it now, because once you have a kid you'll have stretch marks and your tits'll be knocking your knees. I'd like to see that."

Now don't get me wrong, all in all, she's a nice enough girl. We don't have a lot to talk about when we're standing around waiting for class to start, eight or ten years isn't a huge age gap, but with this chick, I really feel it. But I'm not about to actually drop kick her in the face, I reserve those moves for my real enemies. But come on, read the room, read the topic, read the tone. It's like when I'm sitting with my mommy friends and they are all husband bashing, but on that particular week I actually don't mind the man I married, I'm not going to take a sip of my "tea" (I use tea in quotations, because we all know it's wine) and then say, "My husband is so great, he folds the laundry and unloads the dishwasher and makes sure that my computer has up-to-date virus protection, I just love him so much." Meanwhile, all the other women have been plotting ways to kill their spouses and make it look like an accident. You just don't go there. You just don't do that. You keep your mouth shut, or you make up something lame to contribute to the topic, or lie through your teeth and tell them that your man wears the same pair of underwear four days in a row. You know, benign, but believable.
The same goes for when you're exhausted and growling about how little your kid is sleeping, that they're up multiple times a night and think four thirty is an acceptable time to start the day. When the general consensus in the room is that kids are the devil, don't pipe and be like, "Little Archimedes sleeps from 7 pm until 8 am and never wakes up, and he has a three-hour nap in the afternoon. And he's done this since he was two weeks old." You, my darling, have earned yourself a roundhouse kick to the temple and giant middle finger.

So, if someone smiles, laughs and says, "F*ck you," stop and think, maybe they're not kidding, maybe they mean it, it’s not a joke, and you need to close the hole in your face. Perhaps they’re trying to save you from making a complete and total fool of yourself because what you said, was really rather dickish!
End rant xoxox

Hot and Filthy

Emma Everly didn’t know true love or happiness until she met enigmatic millionaire James Shaw. He turned her world upside down, all for the better, possessing her heart, body, and soul. He brought her over to the dark and dirty side and opened her eyes to the wild and kinky sex Emma didn’t even know she craved.
Now they’re married and ready to start their life together, and Emma realizes all her dreams are coming true. With a romantic honeymoon planned on a live-aboard boat in French Polynesia with nothing but her handsome husband and the fishes, Emma is positive James will take her body to newer and more extreme heights of pleasure. But James has other ideas, and even in the middle of their sexy sea adventure, their relationship is put to the test. Emma must find a way to come to terms with James’ demands or risk ruining their first holiday as husband and wife.

A quick and funny story with nothing but sex, scuba diving, and newlywed bickering. Because these two deserve a chill honeymoon. As I’ve started telling people, it’s nothing but pure filth with the odd parrot fish sighting. Don’t expect the darkness and angst of the other books; this little story is meant to be light, fun, super dirty and give you all the happy feels.
