Storm? What Storm?

I hail from Palm Springs, California. We don't have thunderstorms, or any storms for that matter. We have heat. Wicked heat. A few years back when I was new to the area, a friend and I were headed for brunch. Mexican fare (my fave) and champagne. Yum.

Stopped at a light, I looked over at one of those digital time/temperature displays that are often in front of banks and gas stations. When I saw the numbers 127, I did a double take then said to my friend, "I thought it was three o'clock."

He laughed and said, "It is. That's the temperature."

Yeah...wicked heat.

The thought of rain - even a few drops - or thunderstorms sounds kind of nice, especially if it's around Halloween. Note, I didn't say Spring. As far as I'm concerned, once Christmas is over, I don't want to see snow (not that I do in PS), clouds, or anything else that's gloomy. I want the sun. :)

Since the theme for this month's blogs is supposed to be about storms, I tried to find one in my novels. I have a snowstorm in Lush Velvet Nights and in In His Arms. There's a scene with brief rain in The Yearning

That's it. No real storms. No experience with them either.

Maybe with global warming, the wet stuff will start moving toward the southwest.

Before I leave you, I'm pleased to say that I have a new title on the horizon- Erotic Takeover, erotic romance with a touch of BDSM. I just heard from the publisher that Erotic Takeover will be out April 22. Don't have a cover as yet or buy links, but here's the blurb and a brief excerpt. PG rated.

Blurb:

He’ll unleash her indecent desires…in the most provocative way possible

Working for a celebrated photographer of lush nudes, many with BDSM themes, isn’t easy for Jodi. She’s full-figured, wholesome and longing for Mac, her bad boy boss. His shaggy hair, wicked tat and total hotness make her dream of ditching her work as his assistant to get down on her knees as his eager sub. If he’d only notice her.
Who says he hasn’t? As laid-back as they come, Mac can’t get over how uptight Jodi is around him…like he might bite her. Not what he has in mind. Her guileless nature and voluptuous figure do dangerous things to his self-control.
Lucky for him a client’s request has Jodi finally yielding to her sensual nature, because Mac’s fully prepared to dominate, demanding her submission, delivering punishment. In other words, an erotic takeover.

Excerpt:

True to his word, Mac didn’t touch her in any inappropriate places while he strolled the aisles, pulling boxes and cans off the shelves, reading the ingredients as if he’d never done anything like this before.
Jodi suspected he hadn’t, finding her life an adventure he’d never had to face. For someone like him, it was a fun challenge to budget money, clip coupons, search for all the specials. At least until it became a bore, which would happen eventually.
Her heart cramped at the thought that this would be their first and last grocery trip together. Never had she wanted him more. He was so damn hot and adorable. Like a little boy with his first puzzle, trying to put all the pieces together.
Bent at the waist, Mac studied the store labels beneath the spaghetti sauces. Each showed the cost-per-ounce comparison between the brands.
Two middle-aged women reached past him for their choices. He apparently didn’t notice.
They stared at his luscious profile then gave Jodi the once over, dismissing her as though she had nothing to do with him. She could read their thoughts in their expressions—a hottie like him surely wouldn’t be with someone like her.
Sighing, Jodi checked the time. They’d been here forty minutes already. Mac looked as though he could go all night at this.
“This one,” he said, tapping the bottle of Prego. “It’s three cents cheaper than the other—wait, I think we have a coupon.” He checked his iPhone and beamed as if he’d just inherited Garner’s. “Fifty cents off. Awesome. I’m adding it to your shopping cart.” He put the Prego in her basket. “Where’s the cheap wine?”
“Why?”
“We can’t have spaghetti without booze. What kind of cook are you?”
Jodi lifted her shoulders, her mind stuck on how he’d said “we”, as though they were a couple…or maybe just friends. That had to be it. Mac had fun when he was with her, just as he would with a guy, with the added bonus of sex.
“You can’t cook?” he finally said then sighed. “Looks as if tonight’s on my shoulders.”
“You’re going to make a meal for us?”
“Sure. How hard can it be? If I hit a problem, I’ll Google it on my phone or call Joe.”
She frowned. “Who’s Joe?”
“The chef at Garner’s. Great guy. He can talk me through anything.”
Jodi laughed. “You do know there are cooking instructions on the packages.”
Mac picked up the box of spaghetti. His eyebrows lifted as he read the directions.
God, he was beautiful when he was clueless. “Do you eat out for every meal?”
“Nope.” He tossed the box back in her cart. “I get delivery or takeout sometimes.”
“You don’t even have coffee at your place?”
“There’s a Starbucks less than a mile away.” He leaned into her and murmured, “That’s why God made them, for guys like me.”
Wow, he really was a virgin at this. Tonight was going to be something.

Tina Donahue info:

I’m an award-winning, bestselling novelist in erotic, paranormal, contemporary and historical romance for Kensington, Samhain Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Siren Publishing, Booktrope, and indie. Yay! Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly, Romantic Times and numerous online sites have praised my work, and trust me, I’m forever grateful for that. I’ve had my books reach finals in the EPIC competition, one title was named Book of the Year at a review site, and others have won awards in RWA-sponsored contests. I’m actually featured in the 2012 Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market. Talk about feeling like a freaking star. Before my writing career, I was the editor of an award–winning Midwestern newspaper and worked in Story Direction for a Hollywood production company. Outside of being an admitted and unrepentant chocoholic, I’ve flown a single-engine plane (scary stuff), rewired an old house using an electricity for dummies book, and have been known to moan like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally whenever I’m eating anything Mexican or Italian. Yeah, I like to eat (burp).

Here's the blurb:

To break this curse, they’ll have to turn the heat up. Way up.

Jasmine Dante prowls Key West’s nightlife, fighting a losing battle against a jealous rival’s curse that forces her to seek carnal pleasure, no matter the danger. Weakened from lack of sleep, driven by insatiable lust, she spots a man who stirs her desperate craving, and begins yet another dance of seduction.

Except the dark stranger who returns her direct stare is no ordinary lover. Inside his powerful body lies a raw sexuality that just might be enough to break her curse. There’s only one way to find out: imprison him in her bed and feed on his passion.

Former U.S. Marshal Mike Stearn is many things, but he’s no woman’s sex slave. The deadly telekinetic power he ruthlessly suppresses comes alive again at Jasmine’s touch. Beneath her bold, potent sensuality he senses vulnerability and desperation. He may be in handcuffs, but she’s the one who’s enslaved.

As Mike resurrects his power to free himself so he can find the curse’s source and defeat it, Jasmine revels in his masterful rule. Her ravenous yearning evolves into rapture as she surrenders to his hunger, her darkest needs—and the emotional connection that lies beyond. Unless the curse takes her life first…

Warning: Tons of steamy sex, smoldering passion and a to-die-for love story with a hot Alpha hero who finds himself imprisoned by one sultry and desperate babe.

Writing Outside Your Comfort Zone

When I first began writing romances, I hadn't a clue what subgenres to try. I knew what I liked to read, but that didn't mean I was going to plunge into an urban fantasy on my first attempt.

I ended up writing romantic comedies. They came naturally - and very easily - to me. My first pubbed romantic comedy was Lady Love about a vegetarian poet who gets a job on an Oregon sheep ranch owned by a super hot guy. He needs a cook for a month since his cook/housekeeper is on her honeymoon. My poet, bless her heart, needed a job and a place to stay. Having grown up in foster care, she's always been alone, but it hasn't dampened her spirit. As she tells him repeatedly, she's destined for greatness with her poetry. It was a sweet, funny story that was well reviewed and got tons of fan mail. To this day, I'm amazed at the response.

Following Lady Love, a number of my other romantic comedies were pubbed. It was heady stuff. I was simply writing the way I think and talk (borderline irreverent), but I wanted to try something new. I decided on historicals next and I had three pubbed in that genre.

Then along came erotic romance. I've had many fans tell me that my sex scenes and the sensual tension between my characters are beyond hot. Believe me, I sweated through those scenes. Moving from sweet romantic comedies to hot-and-heavy erotic romance wasn't easy. But I endured. The steamy contemporaries I write come more easily to me now, although I will admit that finding new ways for the couples to get it on is always a challenge. :)

And that brings me to my latest endeavor in paranormal romance. Wow - talk about hard. When I first became interested in writing paranormals, I honestly believed they'd be easy because I could make stuff up. You know, the hero can fly, disappear, shapeshift, whatever. What I didn't take into account is that even special powers have rules. If I wanted the hero's telekenetic power to work sometimes, but not always, I had to have a reason why. Mercy, it got complicated. But again, I endured.

Thankfully, my first paranormal The Yearning was pubbed in February of this year to great reviews. Fans of my erotic contemporaries made it a bestseller.

My next paranormal Unending Desire is coming out in mid October. I can't share the cover (which is HOT HOT HOT) or the blurb with you as yet. But here's the tagline: His hunger for one woman will make him a traitor to his world... And the warning: Will cause heart palpitations, dilated pupils and a rush of desire from a dose of Alpha male with a score to settle, a woman in peril and their smoking hot sex. For immediate relief, keep a lover on hand between chapters.  :)

For now, I'll leave you with that and the blurb from The Yearning

I'm Yearning for Another Week Like This One

Couldn't help myself on the blog's title - but the sentiment is true and I'm hosting a contest today to celebrate. But more on that a bit later.

This has been one great week for me.

To begin with, my very first erotic paranormal, The Yearning, released from Samhain on the 1st. And I just learned last night that it's hit the Top Ten Bestseller List on Samhain's site - whoot!

Next, I got a really awesome review from Whipped Cream for my Ellora's Cave erotic romance Sensual Stranger. They gave it Best Book - the highest rating a novel can get.

Then, if that weren't enough, they sent me an email saying it was up for Book of the Week. And finally, I learned that it's also up for Book of the Month at Siren Reviews where it received 5 Siren Stones.

What an awesome week this was. Better than Christmas. Hey, better than chocolate!  :)

Now for my contest. One lucky commenter on today's blog will get a chance to win one of my following books:

1. Adored - ebook
2. Deep Dark Delicious - ebook
3. Lush Velvet Nights - ebook
4. In His Arms - ebook

The Yearning - My First Paranormal Romance!!!!

I'm so excited - February 1st, my very first paranormal erotic romance will be released from Samhain!

Here's the blurb and an excerpt to give you a taste of the magic to come.  :)

To break this curse, they’ll have to turn the heat up. Way up.

Weakened from lack of sleep, driven by insatiable lust, she spots a man who stirs her desperate craving, and begins yet another dance of seduction.

Excerpt:

(In this scene, Jasmine has just coaxed Mike to come to her home...the only way she can temporarily slake her passion)

He offered a gentle smile and gathered her into his arms. His embrace nearly defeated Jasmine. New tears threatened. She hated deceiving him but didn’t know what else to do. Without his warmth and touch, she’d go crazy.

He whispered, “You okay?”

She nodded.

He ran his hand up her back. She sagged into him, loving his solid support. “Ready to go inside?”

“Depends.” He kissed the top of her head. “What do you have in mind?”

Jasmine pushed to her toes and suckled his throat while cupping his sac with her free hand, feeling the shape and weight of his balls through the rough denim.

Air hissed through his teeth. “How about we stay here? I’ve always wanted to have sex in a garage. We could even try to do it on my Harley.”

Her grin released several tears. “Inside’s better. Follow me.”

With her fingers laced through his, she led him past the gazebo, a lacy white structure ringed by fat bushes and towering palms. White wicker rockers graced the back porch. Silvery light streamed through the tall kitchen windows, illuminating the snowy cabinets and gleaming hardwood floor. The fragrant cinnamon cake Violet prepared for tonight’s dessert sweetened the space.

Jasmine hung her purse on Lily’s chair at the glass-topped kitchen table. A prearranged signal to let her sisters know she’d chosen a safe man. He wouldn’t harm her.

She eased her hand from his and backed up several steps toward the hall.

He finished looking around the airy room. Shadows and light played across his features, giving him a mysterious, formidable appearance. He moved closer. Her body throbbed, hurting for his.

“I can’t believe you live here alone,” he said.

The back of her neck prickled. She warned herself not to break and blurt the truth. In addition to Violet and Lily, Ben Bishop, their border, rented a room upstairs. Ben waited for her now, determined to protect her if the man she chose became threatening. Heart racing, she offered a promising smile. “Most of the time I like the solitude, though not tonight.” To distract him from the subject, she lifted her hands and unfastened her halter.

Mike followed the ends of the cloth as they slid over her breasts to pool at her waist. Eyes riveted to her partial nudity, he pulled his tee out of his jeans.

“No—don’t.”

His gaze jumped from her tight nipples to her eyes. “Don’t? Why?”

If worry caused Violet and Lily to arrive before she got him out of the kitchen, he’d see them coming up the porch. “I want to undress you. Please.”

He flung out his arms, his resonant voice even huskier. “Have at it.”

Jasmine smiled, liking him so much desire rose swift and pitiless, worse than the times with the other men. The room pressed in and the air became suffocating. Tension magnified every sound: crickets chirped boisterously, something in the wall popped as the house settled. Her heart skipped a beat while she battled for composure. No matter his impatience to sink inside of her, if she allowed him to witness the heartless depth of her passion, she’d spook him and he’d leave.

She’d have no way to satisfy herself through tonight’s grueling hours, not even if she went to Ben. He’d argued for them to become intimate, not understanding the curse. Desiree didn’t want her to crave just any male. That would be too easy. She could hire escorts. The man had to be one she felt in her core with a connection so strong he seemed to be a part of her, whether he was vicious like Travis or as seemingly honorable as Mike. Only then would the sex gratify, though never for long. She’d still want unendingly. Finding her voice, she tried to make it as light and tantalizing as possible. “Not here. Upstairs.”

Mike’s arms fell to his sides. He arched one brow. “What’s upstairs?”

“My bedroom.” She looked at him from beneath her lashes. “You do want to see it, don’t you?”

“Eventually.” His amused smile grew mischievous as he inclined his head. “Right now, though, that table has your name on it. Once you’ve stripped me, I definitely see you bending over it, lifting your ass and spreading your legs.”

Her pussy thumped, indelicate, shameless beats at the picture he’d created, her body displayed for his use, vaginally and anally. She strained for control. “I was saving that for breakfast.” Her voice trembled. She cleared it. “By the way, I’m quite the chef. I cook in the nude.” She unzipped the back of her dress and nudged it past her hips.

Mike watched the flimsy fabric float to her feet. She stepped out of it and slipped off her slides. Excited and embarrassed at being naked, she didn’t move, allowing his scrutiny. Her breasts felt heavy and vulnerable beneath his intense gaze. Chilled air from the cooling system drifted down, glancing against her hard nipples and the building moisture between her legs. With each breath, the belly chain rolled over her stomach. She knew the dangling diamonds shimmered in the ashy light.

Transfixed, his attention roamed from the jewels to her shaved mound, exactly as she wanted. When she brought him through the house, she couldn’t risk him noticing anything other than her. A necessary precaution to keep him from asking too many questions. And, if she couldn’t bring herself to keep him captive, the only way she could allow him to leave in the morning.

Hand outstretched, she coaxed, “Let’s go upstairs.”
