Everything that Glitters

When it comes to the holiday season, I turn into a very large five-year-old. I don't care how or even what anyone chooses to celebrate, but I want to see things sparkle and shine. I can sigh over a beautiful menorah, a well-done nativity scene, a Yule log or a Disney castle. I just want lights and laughter and cookies and caorls and presents. I want to do EVERYTHING!

I admit it, I'm a sucker for presents. Giving as well as getting. I love to Christmas shop. I love unwrapping things carefully chosen (or made) for me. I want the whole shebang: music, tinsel, reindeer, the works. The thing is, I don't care a bit about cost--I really do believe that it's the THOUGHT that counts. Bankrupting each other is just silly, when you could get more out of working together on a batch of cookies and then making a small gift to wrap and put under the tree or shopping for that just right pair of mittens or the tastiest chocolate bar.

Mostly what I want is for the people I care about to take time out of their daily lives to think about celebrating one another. That's what the holiday season is all about for me. Taking time out to celebrate having made it together through another year--and perhaps--to mourn those who didn't. I want to curl up under a cuddly blanket, gaze at a sparkly tree and bask in the warmth of my family around me. I want to watch my kids and grandspawn unwrap presents. And oh yeah--I definitely want to put on the seasonal music and indulge in some yummy holiday romances. A comfy chair, hot cocoa and a good book certainly goes a long way toward taking any stress out of the holiday season. Maybe that's why I write so many holiday stories. You can find these on my website at www.cindyspencerpape.com along with a couple of free seasonal short stories.

To you and yours, whatever, however you celebrate, may you be warm and safe, free from hunger, and surrounded by people you love. That's all that really counts in life, isn't it? Wishing you light, music, and love, from my home and family to yours. Happy holidays, one and all!

You've inspired me to put up my tree a little bit earlier:). I love the lights and music and getting into the whole holiday spirit thing but the past couple of years, we've been editing and putting up what makes the cut a little later. Maybe we'll do it different this year. Happy holidays to you and yours!

You have some cute holiday covers there! You've been busy with the wedding and the Thanksgiving holiday. I hope you have all your decorations up now. I had a dream last night where you were in it. I was wearing the most beautiful period gown and I wished you were there to see it!

Happy Holidays!
