Guest Blog: Carly Phillips: Why I Blog

Carly’s Corner

I have a new blog! An exciting slice of my life called Carly’s Corner located at my website http://www.carlyphillips.com/category/blog/.  I used to blog weekly at Plotmonkeys, so this is the first time it’s daily for me. I have to admit, I am loving talking to readers every day. Sometimes it’s challenging coming up with a topic, but more often than not, I can figure it out. And if not, the dogs like to step in and hog the spotlight.

Why is this good for readers? I’ve been told it means a lot to readers that authors take the time to open themselves up and let readers get to know them. Well I have to tell you it means an equal amount to me when I see people coming by to post, even if it’s just “hello.” Because you guys are really busy during the day too! You have a whole huge world at your disposal and if you choose to spend even a minute of your time with me, I’m honored!

Readers and Writers operate in a quid pro quo type of situation. We need each other! And I have always operated under the principle of making sure you know how much I value my readers.

The main reason I started blogging is because I felt like Facebook wasn’t reaching everyone. (Duh). First, because they just don’t let you, no matter how many people LIKE your page, they don’t let them see all your posts. Counter intuitive, huh? And second because not everyone is on Facebook. I realized I like to talk and have my say … because I wanted a place where I could post what I want, when I want!

What will you find on Carly’s Corner? Well insight into my (ugly) writing process, updates on my work in progress, sneak snippets and previews, Dog Days when they pups take over and giveaways on Friday. Yes, Friday is always giveaway day!

Saturday is the most fun for me because I share authors I’ve been reading, what books I love, and I ask you to do the same. I know I have found many new authors via my readers – I do the same thing on Saturday’s on my Facebook Fan Page (http://www.facebook.com/carlyphillipsfanpage) and it is awesome. So I do it at the blog too.  And on Sundays I announce Friday’s winner.

I hope you find it a comfortable place to hang out and talk books. Like my newest, PERFECT TOGETHER, a visit to Serendipity … new characters and old friends make their appearance. I hope to see you at the blog! And I hope you’ll check out Serendipity and Serendipity’s Finest. Xo

GIVEAWAY! Leave a comment for a chance to win a Romance Books '4' Us Tee Shirt and Tote Bag! Be sure to put your email address in the text box with your comment. Winner will be chosen on 16 March.

BLURB:
In the picturesque town of Serendipity, New York, three siblings have grown up in the shadow of their proud and respected police chief father. But what do love, fate, and fortune have in store for the next generation of Serendipity’s finest?

Tired of being the easy-going daughter, always ignored in favor of her high-maintenance sister, and no longer wanting to be her fiance’s trophy wife, Nicole Farnsworth calls off her wedding. All she wants is to be herself. And where better to find her destiny than Serendipity? The place where she met the one man who made her heart beat faster, and gave her the courage to reinvent her life-even if he doesn’t know it.

Officer Sam Marsden calls Serendipity home and he loves it there-even though his childhood sweetheart was stolen by his best friend. After such heartbreak, Sam fears he can’t trust his instincts when it comes to love. Yet he’s so tempted by Nicole, a woman he met only briefly but who has starred in his dreams ever since.
For Nicole and Sam, opening their hearts one more time could change their lives forever. But who’ll be the first to take that chance?

While blogging takes time away from writing, it helps to get the word out about my "Immortal Relations" adult paranormal- romance series and I do so enjoy it when a potential reader leaves a comment. I love starting a conversation with them about my characters, the storyline or writing in general.

I find fiction writing and blog writing are very different skills, and I'm impressed that Carly blogs every day!

I love blogging, but as a part time author, time is precious. Glad you found your niche.

You're braver than I am! I can barely get out once a week, let alone every day! Congratulations.

Carly,

Good luck with your blog! I think you're probably right about having more interaction with readers with your blog as opposed to Facebook. Your new book sounds wonderful. Best of luck!

Carly, I admire your stamina for blogging every day. It's difficult for me to blog once a week.

Your new book sounds great. I like the cover, too.

Thank You, Carly, for taking the extra time to blog! FB has never been friendly with me and personally I prefer blogging anyway, less hassle. Can't wait to check out the fun!

I found that being on Plotmonkeys, a group blog for 6 + years helped teach me how to handle blogging daily. I would have been overwhelmed otherwise! It's about picking a topic daily at least in your head so Mondays are about X, Tuesdays Y etc. :) You can make it work BUT you have to love it or it's just not worth it!

I love author blogs. Especially when they are doing research for their next book and the readers get to help. Or even just doing research and taking pictures of their adventures. Either way it gets you even more into the writing. I try to blog about the authors that I read. But sticking to it can be difficult.

I loved the post Carly. It affirms what I've suspected about daily blogging. If it helps...To keep me committed to doing it every day, even if it has to be a short post on a busy day, I sign myself up for blog events like the A to Z Challenge.

Thanks for joining us today. Best luck. :)

I love your books, Carly, but over the past year or so I've come to enjoy your blogging as well. Thank you for interacting with us all the way that you do! :)

Hello Carly. Thanks for stopping by! I love hearing about different authors. I'm curious to see how long each blog will be. I think that the dogs are going to be wonderful hosts.

I wish you all the best!

I'm another daily blogger but most of what I do is related to other writers and writing. Maybe Cancers like to blog since they don't have to speak in public to share

Hi Carly:) I used to blog every day, but soon found I was running out of things to say. Plus the two years I did interviews with other authors drove my regular traffic away. Now I'm down to two or three days a week, when I find the time.

Your books are always on my TBB list:) Great to 'meet' you!
