Adele Dubois Has Left The Building

I decided to pack my bags and run away from home. At least, for a little while.

As you read this, I’ve got my toes in the water and ass in the sand, as the Zac Brown Band says. I’m hanging on to the last days of summer in a death grip, until there’s no choice but to let go. The Delaware beach I love most is free of drunken college students, screaming kids, and sweating crowds after Labor Day. What could be better than taking time off to read and relax in relative solitude? The other members of my household are perfectly capable of fixing dinner and doing laundry without me.

It’s been a hardworking, tough time for me. In addition to a leadership position with my local chapter of Romance Writers of America, and a tense standoff during the Sony/Google fiasco, I have been writing novels, novellas, and short stories almost non-stop. I thought my career was about to take an important turn when I landed an agent from a big name agency, and was more than happy to pick up the pace. Unfortunately, that agent became ill soon after our contract was signed. She left the industry and rendered me orphaned.

Contract, you say? I found out quickly that contracts only serve the parties who hold the power in the relationship. Believe it.

The upshot is that I’ve been submitting to publishers on my own. Maybe I'll resume the agent search, but after getting a bad burn, I'm wary. While I wait for acceptances (as opposed to rejections!) on my submissions, I’m working on new projects. Something is bound to crack for me eventually.

I love my life, so I'm not complaining. But you know what they say about all work and no play. So…I’m enjoying a break with a little sunshine, fresh air, and tequila. I think I've earned some R & R. I’ll talk with you again soon.   Best~ Adele

Enjoy your time off, Adele - it's well-deserved. I've had so many ups and down in this biz, I'm freaking dizzy. But hang in there. I know it can only get better. :)

Enjoy your vacation! Can I come join you? LOL:) Would love an empty beach and plenty of reading material.

Been there, done that with the agent thing. Next time I try to get one, I'm doing my homework a little better.

Enjoy the beach, Adele. I can be down there in less than 2 hours. Hold a Margarita for me. This business is hard on all of us. We should all toast ourselves with Margaritas on the beach for persevering.

Adele, I had a big New York agent once and she and I couldn't hack it. I've done much better on my own.
