Okay, I am probably spoiled. I started my writing career working with a digital publisher. I sold my first book in November of 2011 and it was published in April of 2012. In terms of the publishing world, that is the blink of an eye.
I did not understand that then. I was just blissfully working on the next book and the next, all of which came out in rapid-fire order. Before I knew it, I had about fifteen books on the digital shelves. My editor jokingly complained that she couldn’t keep up with me. I do write fast…
But then, there was an unexpected delay. Something to do with a publishing schedule. A what? My publisher had a glut of books and started delaying releases. I am far too impatient for that, so I started self-publishing my Tryst Island Series. When you self-publish, you can launch books as soon as they are written, professionally edited and your promotion is in place. You have complete control over the release dates. It is dreamy! After I put out six books in the series—further spoiling myself by indulging my whims—I was invited to write a book for the Calendar Man Series for Decadent Publishing.
It was an exciting offer because I love that publisher, and my book would be the 12th in a series by a bunch of amazing authors. “Yes!” I cried. “I would love to do it.” I sat down and wrote Snow Angels, a sweet story of love and redemption featuring a wounded warrior snowbound with a woman who can speak to the dead.
OMG. I loved this story. It had everything. Steamy sex, a hot moody hero who needs healing, a spunky heroine with a sassy cay…and bacon. I was so excited and raring to go. And then I realized…it was March. And the book would not be released until December. December! Egads. My impatience gene went into overdrive. It seemed like FOREVER.
But I kept working on other projects, every once in a while sending out reminders to my readers, throwing contests and whatnot, to keep the excitement alive.
And, as these things go, December approached. The book launched and is out in the world!
It has seemed like an eternity, I tell you, but the delay was worth it. While self-publishing is a blast, an author can get better exposure by going with a publisher—and opportunities she might not be able to garner on her own. There are other benefits as well.
Yes. The waiting is the hardest part—but sometimes it is worth it!
I will keep reminding myself of that as I wait for September 2015—when my Hot Highlander series for St. Martin’s Press launches.
Oh, September! It seems like an eternity? Doesn’t it?

Katie doesn’t want another man. She certainly doesn’t want or need confirmation that it’s her fault Mark could never satisfy her.
When Sebastian—scarred by the infidelity of his wife—overhears Katie’s confession, and the fact that she was faithful to her husband for ten years even though he never met her needs, he’s intrigued.
