I have a pet peeve that just makes me crazy, and I'm definitely going to use it in a book sometime. People have forgotten how to drive, or they just don't care if they follow the rules.
When turning left drivers turn wide and go into the far lane instead of the lane nearest them so the person turning right on the opposite side of the road has to wait for them.
The thing that annoys me most these days is when a driver doesn't use his/her blinker. Or, they turn their signal on and it flashes once or twice before they cut in front of you. Sometimes, I am beside them and can't see their signal until they speed up and get a couple of feet ahead of me. It really irritates me if there wasn't anyone behind me and they could've stayed in the rear. What's the big deal getting ahead of one car?
In some ways, I can understand road rage. No one likes to get cut off or have someone barge in front of them especially when they have to stop to let them in. It's time to have driver's education back in the schools.
What's your pet peeve and have you used it in a story?

Those are my driving pet peeves too! So frustrating. Luckily drivers ed is still in my kids school.
ReplyDeleteOne of mine is hearing people crack their knuckles. And I put it into a wip, but ended up cutting the scene. I really need to work it back in!
ReplyDeleteHaven't used any road rage issues....hmmmm, there's an idea:)
Thanks, Amber. You're lucky to have drivers ed.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to hear knuckles crack either, Molly, but it doesn't hurt me. Smile.
Wow, you'd lose your mind in Southern California. It's like the Wild West on the roads out here.
ReplyDeleteIf you dare honk someone because they're going too slow, it's a good possibility they'll shoot you.
In Palm Springs where I live, this is our tourist season with lots of retirees on the roads. They're all driving Hummers that look like tanks and going about 20 mph and stopping frequently to gawk at stuff like there's no traffic behind them.
Sandra--I agree with you about the danger and annoyance of aggressive drivers. I think this reflects the lack of consideration for others apparent in all areas of society today.
ReplyDeleteBest--Adele
I really liked your blog! It helped me alot… Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Tina, I would go wild in California. Boston would be another one here in this country that would drive me wild.
ReplyDeleteEgypt was the worse country to drive in though. No lines because of all the sand; everyone was everywhere. lol Horrible!
I agree with you Adele. We have lost the ability to be courteous, or we just aren't being taught to be.
ReplyDeleteI too live in Southern Cal. If I lost my temper for every stupid or rude infraction of driver's ettiquette I'd go crazy. I try to tell myself they're just dumb. Jean
ReplyDeleteJean,
ReplyDeleteYou have the right attitude about dumb drivers. I don't lose my temper, but I talk to myself a lot. Snort!
Sandra, I'm trying to curb my annoyance at other drivers. I tend to curse and scream at them (alone in car with windows closed). The cursing and screaming allows me to vent. I have a small pet peeve and I wonder if this happens to anyone else. When I'm at the supermarket, and I want to check my list or my coupons I'll look for an empty spot where I can pull my cart over without bothering anyone. Invariably, the minute I pull over at least two people are reaching over me to get something on the shelves I'm blocking. Where do these people come from? A minute ago no one was there.
ReplyDeleteLOL Cara,I haven't had the problem at the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the one who curses them with the windows up. Grin. Actually, he calls them idiots or something like that. He thinks they'll end up dead the way they drive because not everyone is going to look after them. Smile.
