Have you ever written a story with an important jewel or crystal in it? In The Amulet, a novella in the Sheikhs of the Golden Triangle series, a special jewel amulet is central to not just that novella but to the entire series.

Writers can also benefit from this knowledge when including
stones in their stories. Imagine cursed stones, protective heirlooms, a necklace with a stone that the wearer owned in another lifetime, or one that has a guardian spirit in it... there are endless possibilities, especially for those who write paranormal and fantasy. Perhaps an old wise woman in your story gazes into a crystal ball?
ROSE QUARTZ: This is a
love stone, and as such is a perfect stone for romance writers. It is about
commitment, opening the heart, healing the heart of emotional debris, and
trusting love. It’s about a light, innocent type of love rather than a more
passionate love.
TURQUOISE: This is a sacred stone to Native Americans and
other indigenous peoples around the globe. It brings the recipient good fortune
when it is given as a gift. It is a very high-vibrational stone, a ‘master
healer’ and brings luck, success and happiness as well as protection to the
person who receives it.
OPAL: A deep mystical stone of power in the ‘otherworldly’
sense, its inner fire alludes to secrets and magic. They are protectors of
light and help us to manifest. Opal deflects negativity and protects the
wearer. Helps open your psychic gifts to be more aware on all levels. Some say opals represent misfortune, but there
is no evidence of where this superstition originated. Still today, some fear
the opal and refuse to wear it.
RUBY: The king of stones, ruby is the power of love, passion,
prosperity, fame, and great strength. Deflects negativity and bursts through
obstacles. Helps integrate past life abilities into this lifetime, and release
karmic ties that no longer serve either party.
OBSIDIAN: Protection, creates a shield of protection around
the wearer. Deflects negativity. Helps us work through our own fears and
transform ourselves. Blocks psychic attacks. Has no boundaries or limitations.
Nothing can hide from obsidian – it finds what lurks in the shadows and
releases it.
MOONSTONE: The Goddess Stone, the divine feminine. Opens up
psychic gifts and helps us step into our true feminine power. Teaches
fearlessness to the wearer. Brings balance to male and female energies.
Transmutes darkness into light by the power of love. Offers protection to travelers.

The Hope Diamond is one of the world's most famous--and purportedly cursed--stones.
There are hundreds of stones that describe varying
depths of properties. There are also dozens of books on the subject. The
interpretations given here are metaphysical, not physical. You won’t find them
in books or on websites for rock hounds. Many of them are based on ancient lore
and tradition, shamanistic uses of stones for the good of the tribes, and modern
day wellness practitioners who work with crystals and gemstones for their
clients’ well being.
I hope this post gets your muse thinking about new ways to employ
these great ‘tools’ in one of your upcoming stories!

Interesting. Enjoyed your post on the stones. I've never thought about using a gem in my stories, maybe for a future story. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post! Thanks for sharing all of the interesting info about gems and crystals. I'm actually revising a previously published erotic paranormal (for self-publication), where some very special crystals figure greatly into the plot.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting. I love your Sheikhs of the Golden Triangle series. My romantic suspense set in Italy, Murder, Mi Amore, is centered around a stolen blue diamond.
ReplyDeleteI love gemstones. They are such a great way to communicate and to help with energy. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I have been collecting crystals for the last few years. Feeling the vibration going up my arm while holding a piece of Aventurine and meditating was when I became a true believer in their power. The ones I'm drawn to, now live in power grids around my office. Hey, I need all the help I can get while writing! (lol)
ReplyDeleteOn the first page of my novel coming out this week, my heroine picks up a piece of Selenite and holds it to her forehead to soothe her headache. And when she's nervous, she rubs her lepidolite and amethyst bracelet. Those are both things I do...imagine that? It's good to know other writers love and believe in the power of crystals also.

I haven't written with stones in mind. I do like them especially unusually rocks like stalagmites or desert rose. Good info.
