JUST FOR TODAY

I’m glad to see 2015 go. It was a rough year for me personally, especially the last half, and most sadly, the last quarter. I lost two loved ones within days of each other and I’m still reeling.

A new year means hope and a new start. That’s how I’m looking at 2016. I don’t normally make resolutions because, like most of us, I don’t keep them. However, the harshness of last year taught me a lesson—live each day to the fullest possible and appreciate your loved ones. Hug those who are most important to you, including your fur babies.

Rather than resolutions, I’ve set a goal for 2016. My goal is an attitude adjustment. I tend to worry a lot and stress over things that really aren’t all that important. I am determined to change.

Dear Abbie’s New Year’s column is an inspiration. I cut it out and keep it on my desk. She says it’s adapted from the Al-Anon creed and is a way to discard destructive habits.

Here’s my personal Just for Today list:

Just for today I will be patient with others, especially my husband. I will not rush when someone is talking to me, but I’ll slow down and listen.

Just for today I will be kind toward others, in person or online, even to those who aren’t nice to me.

Just for today I will not dwell on the past or worry about the future, but I’ll live in the here and now.

Just for today I’ll be grateful for all the good things I have and not compare myself to others who appear to have so much more.

Just for today I’ll make a to-do list and I’ll complete one job at a time and not stress over all the other tasks I still have to do. And if I don’t get everything done, so what?

Just for today I will not react to rude or aggressive drivers.

Just for today I will take time to relax and “smell the roses.” I’ll sit down in the afternoon and watch one of the shows I’ve DVR’d or I’ll read a good book.

Just for today I won’t obsess over doing promo or over my sales, or lack thereof, but I’ll write for the pure joy of it.

Just for today I’ll push aside sad thoughts and focus on the positive.

Just for today I’ll smile when I think of the loved ones I lost and I’ll remember the good times with them.

I could go on. Each day my list may change a little. I think this is a good way to begin a new year. What about you? What is on your Just for Today list?

If you need a good book to help you relax and warm you on cold winter days, I suggest Entice Me: Luscious Love Stories, the terrific boxed set climbing the Amazon charts. These sweet, sensual, magical romances by the authors of RB4U will give you hours of fun for only 99 cents!
