I'm proud to be a member of this Romance Books '4' Us group and happy I was asked to be part of the Entice Me anthology.
I started Werecat Love a few years go, back when it was called Jared, the Fierce Were Kitty.
I had three sparks of inspiration from my muse, Annabella, and like usual she wondered off. "You can take it from there, right?"
But then I had help from an unexpected source. The cat I had at the time, Baron. His unique personality was just perfect for my werecat Jared when he was in his cat form.
Baron, AKA Jared Catterick |
After writing the three pieces, I ran them through two yahoo groups. My critique partners loved it. But it was still just three pieces of a story. Then I was asked to the anthology.
However, the process from signing up for the anthology to story completion, almost didn't happen.
You see, I was so busy, I nearly gave up writing this year.
First, I planned a wedding for my daughter and son-in-law. I'm assuming everyone knows about what goes into one. Second, if that wasn't enough, hubby and I looked for a house to buy, found one, signed stacks and stacks of paperwork, and then came the dreaded move. It took nine days to move across town. I know a lot of people move in one day, but we didn't. And it took an additional three to haul away a bunch of stuff we didn't need anymore. Twenty-five years in the same house, and I never realized we had so much junk! My back still hurts thinking about it. Then third, two weeks later, I became a first time grandmother. In between helping with the baby, I set up my new office, and then finally I could write.
It was wonderful reacquainting myself with my characters. In the process, Jared became Scottish and his love interest, Morgan, became an American school teacher.
Excerpt, Werecat Love:
Morgan
stumbled into the Mountain Lion ski lodge. Safe
at last. She barely glanced at the rustic, rough-pine interior, as she
limped past the homey furniture. Her goal came into view, the huge stone
fireplace. Why the hell do I let myself
get talked into these things? What was I thinking? I’ve never skied in my life.
She
removed her soaked gloves, laid them on the hearth, then spread her frozen
fingers toward the warmth of the crackling fire. Snow packed into the creases
of her ski-pants, jacket, and boots, but soon melted in the glorious heat. God, all this so Joan can flirt with her
Italian stallion.
When
the circulation returned to her icy body parts, causing a pins and needles
sensation, she let out a slight whimper, then turned to let the roaring fire
roast her rump. Morgan found herself staring into the amused green-eyed gaze of
a man who sat on a leather chair. With wide cheekbones and a face that tapered
down to a narrow chin, he was definitely worth a look. His long legs stretched
out, emphasizing his lean build and athletic frame. He was attractively attired
in hunter-green bib ski-pants, and matching sweater. His shock of bright
orange-red hair stood on end. How
unusual, it’s the same color as that
cat I saw last night.
His
full sensuous lips formed into a lazy smile. “You’re shivering as if you’re
frozen right through.”
“Oh, I am.” She didn’t doubt he had checked
her out when her back was to him. Morgan stopped rubbing her chilled behind,
when she realized he watched her with unwavering attention. She wrapped her
arms around herself instead.
“What
you need is a hot toddy.” He straightened. “It’s excellent for when you have
been exposed to the cold or had a shock to the system.”
Morgan
arched an eyebrow. “Are you buying?”

My dog is my writing partner. He likes to sit next to me at night and push me to write. :) I can see that you did have a lot on your plate this year. But all were wonderful changes and now you have another amazing book bundle to show for it (along with the new son in law, home and grandbaby).
Congrats on the bundle and all your changes!
Congrats on the release, Janice - may you burn up the net with your sales. :)
Janice, your story sounds great! I can't wait to read it. I'm proud to be in the anthology with you and the other talented writers. Love your Baron. I love cats too. You have certainly had a lot of life changes the past year. I'm glad you didn't stop writing.
Hi Melissa,
I wouldn't trade this busy last year for anything. :)
An animal writing partner does help, doesn't it. I have a Pomeranian, but she'll abandon me to go sleep in my bedroom with my hubby.
Hi Tina,
Thank you.
Hi Cara,
Thank you. Your story looked great too.
I'm glad I didn't stop writing either.
Janice~
Loved your excerpt. Being a part of this wonderful anthology has been a great experience. Exhausting at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
The office puppy is my constant companion, unfortunately the only advice she contributes is when she wants a treat, lol! I love the story and am happy to be part of this wonderful anthology! Great excerpt:)
Great excerpt! I'm really looking forward to this anthology (spoiler. My story is about a werelion, so the felines will be well represented!)
Enjoyed your excerpt. Pets can be a great inspiration. We are in the process of downsizing and moving. I've already hurt my back just cleaning out the house. I'm not even finished yet. Best wishes to you on your new anthology and move.
Loved this story and all the rest. Pre-order in just 3 days!
Hi Jean,
I agree its been a great experience.
Hi Paris,
Dogs are great for that. :)
Hi Cindy,
Oh yay. One more feline in the anthology. Jared wouldn't be alone. :)
Hi Kelley,
Yes pets can be. Oh, boy. My back went out during the move too. I had a massage at the mall and its better. Take care and good luck with the rest of the move.
Hi Rose,
Its getting close. Can't wait to start posting the links.
Janice~
