Dear Diary with @CharJGordon #Romance #RB4U

Dear Diary,

There’s an old expression called there’s plenty of fish in the sea but I know for sure the boy you met in high school  is sure to be the real one. How do I know, you might ask? I know because I met him when I was fifteen and we fell in love. Yes, we did. And after that, no matter how many boys I went out with, HE was the one I loved. For my sixteenth birthday he gave me a gold ankle bracelet and when I graduated high school, he gave me a bracelet with his name on it. It said Love, Buddy 1948. The Korean War had begun and he joined the Strategic Air Command as a pilot.

That was long ago. We married, had too many children, never argued, our motto was marriage is one long conversation. He died suddenly at fifty eight. I love him still. Why do I tell you all this? Because I’ve just finished a book titled When Double Becomes Single, a journey similar to mine, one I hope heals other widows and widowers as they find their way in the  world after losing their loved one.

“I didn’t realize at the time while working as an actor in NYC, I’d become a sponge soaking up dialogue, setting, and stage directions. I learned many tools of writing during the years watching directors like Mike Nichols and actors including Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins, and Billy Crystal. And would you believe, I was Geraldine Ferraro’s stand-in leg model, my first job giving me entrée into all the Unions needed to work. When the sweet time ended, I began another career and creative juices flowed.”

  1. What a romantic story about you and your husband, and what a great tribute to his memory.

  2. Thanks, Cara. I so appreciate your comment. My daughter just yesterday, found a pencil sketch he drew of me when we were teens. He wrote "My pencil can never capture
your beauty." I'm happily married to another man but I can never forget my first love.

  3. What a wonderful tale of love. I have such fond memories of my first love. We never married but I put him into a book and made him into the hero of my dreams. I'm sure your former husband is celebrating all your successes. I wish well with your book!

  6. I'm with you on losing a mate I adored. However, we had many loving years together and I feel his presence every day. Nothing can replace a love like that, or change how lucky I am to have known it.

  7. Your books sounds like a winner. It encompasses a situation that is all too familiar to many women. Twenty years ago, a woman in my critique group wrote a book on a similar topic (in that case it was a divorce after many years of being married) and some editor (probably a twenty-one-year-old right out of college) said "Who'd want to read about this?" Live and learn. Good luck on your release and thanks for sharing.

  8. Stanalei, thanks for your dear comment. I certainly hope my book reaches the right audience. They will find consolation and a road to follow full of fun and the joy life has to offer.

A note to Jean Hart Stewart: The words you've written, I could have written. I, too, feel his presence every day. I hope you've moved on to find another but if not, life is so full of wonders, there is much to enjoy. My book is fiction, a story of love and loss and what becomes of the woman left behind. She does find a richness and there is an HEA. It happens when you're a writer. If you'd like a copy of When Double Becomes Single, I'd be pleased to send one to you. authorCharmaineGordon@Gmail.com

  9. I once heard a friend say that if she ever lost her husband she would hope to remarry soon after because she was so happy that she knew no other way of life. Though I never met Bud I've heard you talk of him often and I see the wonderful marriage you now share with Don and I know my friend's words to be true. You have loved, and been loved by, two astonishing men and your attitude has always been to move forward in life. I know that this book will reach the emotions of many and help them in life's journey. You, my dearest friend, are a beautiful icon of knowing how to live.
Best of luck with this book.
Wonderful interview and a great chance for folks to know the author.
