Stormy Weather #RB4U @melissa_keir

Stormy Weather

This month the RB4U authors are talking about Storms. The unpredictable nature of weather is exciting and frightening. All that power....

April showers bring May flowers. But here in Michigan we are almost as likely to get another round of snow showers before April is over and done with. Seriously by February, I'm ready for warmer weather and no more snow. In fact, the word SNOW is a horrible four letter word for me.

It's not that I hate snow. It's perfect for Christmas but it could come on December 23rd and melt on December 26th. What do you think of snow? What about thunderstorms?

There's nothing more thrilling than a thunderstorm. I used to sit on the front porch when I was younger and watch the lightning crash. The pouring rain and deep booming thunder completed the thrill ride. Still when a thunderstorm comes, I want to be right there, watching and feeling it to the marrow of my bones. They've never scared me...thrilled me...yes!

Do you find thunderstorms thrilling? What's your favorite thing to do during a storm?

My book- A Christmas Accident features a horrible snowstorm. The impact of the storm changes the lives of Sherri and Adam.

Excerpt:
Route 2 is known as Death’s Highway. The area of Route 2 between Bono and Sandusky claimed dozens of lives due to the large semi-trucks in addition to the awkward two lane road. People couldn’t see what was coming around the next bend so head-on collisions were frequent. The horrible blizzard-like conditions from Lake Erie only made the road more treacherous.

After grabbing the coffee, pretzels and some crackers for myself, then paying for them, I headed back to the car. The snow made the car hard to see from the door of the gas station. Driving in this mess wasn’t a comforting thought.

“Adam, the weather looks really bad. Maybe we should turn on a local radio station to check on the road conditions.”

Making slow progress, we listened to the bleak weather bulletin. Little did we know one single radio announcement would change our lives forever.

I've actually driven on Route 2 in Ohio. During one particular snow storm the road was so bad that after I spun out, there was another accident up ahead. The accident had the police cars just sliding off the road. In other words...what help would those sliding police officers and cars be!

Thank you for visiting today. I hope you'll join me again next month on the 9th for some more excerpts and thoughts. If you want to know more about my books, check out my website: http://www.melissakeir.com/melissas-books.html

  1. Like you, I would like snow for Christmas, but that's enough. I'm really tired of shoveling, salting, scraping... so ready for spring. And storms? No. I love a nice, gentle rain but not storms - especially when they're accompanied by damaging winds and hail.

Your story sounds great! Thanks for the peek. :)

  2. I like some snow but I sure wouldn't like what they got in Boston this year. Thunderstorms are scary and awesome. They're dangerous too. We get hurricanes here and they're very scary, especially when trees come down.

    I enjoyed your excerpt.

  3. Love the snow - and the rain - and basically any day that's a bit on the dreary side because it's perfect for cuddling under a blanket while drinking hot tea and reading a romance story... ;)
I grew up in the Midwest (Iowa) where spring thunderstorms often times led to tornados. Don't like tornados. Now that I reside on the West Coast (the high, dry desert of Nevada) we don't get much rain so no tornados, and snow has been quite scarce these past few years. :(
Adore your cover, Melissa...best of luck in your endeavors!

  4. I love snow for the holidays, but by February I'm ready to see some lawn. Lol. I also like thunderstorms. I love to watch the light show in the sky, smell the fresh air as the storm sweeps in. The only time I don't like storms is when the Tornado siren goes off.
    Liked the excerpt!

  5. Hi, Melissa! I would take your snow so we could have some drought relief. We get incredible thunderstorms with incredible hail. Like two years ago, the size of baseballs. The trees were stripped of leaves and small branches. Cars totaled, roofs severely damaged. Many a time I've rounded up cats and dogs and gone to the bathroom to be safe. Knock on wood. I've never been in a tornado.

  6. Lived in upper New York and don't car if I ever see that white stuff again. The water situation here in Calif. is getting worriesome, but I'll still take the warm climate. Great cover!!!!

  7. Victoria- Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I hope you are done with the snow too!

Cara-Would you believe that Sault St. Marie in Michigan got more snow than Boston this year? I would love to see a hurricane? Have you ever had a hurricane party?

Lynda- You are right...those cloudy, rainy days are perfect for snuggling up and reading.

Anonymous- Thanks. There is something wonderful about a storm! I'd forgotten about the smells!

Vicki- I'll send you some snow! We still have a few places where the piles are melting. The piles were so tall in parking lots we couldn't always see around them!

  8. I love sitting on the porch and watching a lightning storm. I don't even mind a good snow storm ... in winter! The fact that the snow has been dragging into the spring is NOT beautiful, charming or romantic! LOL!

    Loved the excerpt.

  11. Thunderstorms are fascinating acts of nature...we become mesmerized by the dark clouds and lightning show. Of course it'd dangerous weather, but somehow being indoors and watching seems "safe". We just have to remember it can turn scary no matter where you are...inside or outside.
Snow?? No more, weather Gods! People have suffered enough this winter and want warmer temps to stay!

  12. Tina- I'm so done with snow! I know that California wants the water it provides.

Marianne- From your lips to God's ear! :)
