Excerpt:
She smiled sweetly and motioned the tea tray be set in front of her.
“Oh, your arguments seemed so superficial to
me. I wish I had the time to take you visiting with me when I go about the
countryside you mention. Some of my patients would strongly disagree with you
and many are more educated than you’d think.”
She placed the cakes on the side of the table
nearest to him. The dratted man could pick out his own sweet. As she handed him
his tea, his large hand reached out gracefully, and their fingers brushed
together.
Jennivere jumped as if she’d been bitten. Her
tea cup rattled in its saucer, and she looked up at him in astonishment. She
heard him draw in his breath as he took the cup, set it on the table, and
leaned over to move one finger slowly across her lips.
“We’ve got to do something about this,
Jennivere. In the meantime, may I go with you on your next call?”
“I didn’t give you permission to call me by
my name,” she muttered. She knew even as she spoke it was a useless reproach.
He’d been Zachary in her mind from the moment he said his name. And she’d never
ask him what he meant by ‘this’. She was very much afraid she knew.
“You’ve been Jennivere to me from the moment
I recognized you,” he said softly. “I can’t backtrack now.”
Jenny felt as if she’d picked up a hot coal
instead of an innocent teacup. She felt warm all over in a most vexing manner.
She actually wished for a fan, which was utterly ridiculous. The windows were
open and a slight breeze stirred through the room. No matter, she felt on fire.
Dear nymphs of the lake but she hoped she didn’t look as hot as she felt. She
knew a red face didn’t become her fair hair and skin.
She gulped in a breath of air and he smiled
at her. Knowingly. She firmed her spine and answered in as cool a voice as she could
muster.
“Yes, of course. I’m sure you could learn a
lot from being along with me. Although maybe not. Your prejudices might be
quite effective blinders.”
She uttered these words sweetly, and smiled.
Zachary looked startled, and then appreciative.
“It will be my pleasure to learn anything at
all you care to teach me, Jennivere. Anything at all.”
1. People aren't against you; they are for themselves.
2. Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world.
3.You learn more from failure than from success. Don't let it stop you, failure builds character,
4. The most dangerous risk of all- the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself time to do it later.
5. Go where you're celebrated, not where you are tolerated.
6. The person you will spend the most time in your life is yourself, so you'd better try to make yourself as interesting as possible.
7. If you accept your liabilities you can go beyond them.
8. People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing....that's why we recommend it daily.
9. Everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something.
10. Comfort is the enemy of achievement.
All you have to do win one of these books is comment on which of these ten might mean something to you. Maybe it will make you take action or maybe just spur your thinking. My daughter will pick the two comments she thinks are the best, and I'll send out the prizes. Oh yes, be sure and include your e-addy so I can reach you.

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous cover, Jean. Congrats on the release!
ReplyDeleteJean,

Oh Jean, it's a beautiful cover indeed!!! Congrats on it going to print!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the two releases, Jean. Always an exciting event, even when it's happened 33 times before!
ReplyDeletePolly
Your stories sound great! I like all the motivational tidbits, but I like number 2 best.

As a teacher, I see #3 as the biggest one that children need to see. Failure is just a recalculation to try something a different way. But today's children have learned that they need to throw away the baby with the bathwater and start again. We've become a throw away society.
ReplyDeleteI needed #2. I think I do too much to get attention and not enough for my own pleasure. In many ways, I need to receive validation from others to know that I'm on the right track. But I'm a work in progress and always changing and growing. After all, I haven't gotten that job racing cars yet!
Congrats on your print release, Jean!! I LOVE the cover of your book. So beautiful. The story sounds amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess, I originally thought Ann post this, but I see it's Jean.
ReplyDeleteJean, I love the cover and the story sounds delightful.
I'm still for #8. lol
Thanks, all you beautiful ladies. Don't know about you, but I find it fascinating how people pick different sayings as their favorite! Jean
ReplyDeleteForgot to say there was a mixup on Ann's day when I hit the publish instead of the schedule button. This post was taken right down and re-filed and I apologized to Ann. Most people know I'm a computer klutz!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has chosen Melissa Keir for the print book and Polly for the e-book. If you ladies would send me an e-mail I'll get going on getting you the prizes..
