New Years Resolutions

Here we are at the end of another year, and where has the time gone?  For me this year went by faster than any other, and I don't know why.  I didn't do any more than usual; in fact, I think I accomplished less.  The reason for this could be age and what it represents for some of us.  I'm slowing down and not doing as much as I used to.

This brings me to the time of the year when we all think of making New Years resolutions.  Sometimes I wonder why I bother to make promises I usually can't keep.  It has come to me that to make resolutions doesn't mean you have to keep them, but you have to try to do better.

If I make a resolution and only keep it 3, 6, or 8 months I've accomplished something.  It may not be for the whole year, but it is better to complete some of what you want to do than none of them.

All of this being said, I have more New Years resolutions for this year:

Personal resolutions:

1.  Spend more time with hubby and family because they won't be here forever.

2.  Contact friends more often (especially those far away)

3.  Exercise (a must)

4.  Get together with friends more than once every three or four months.

5.  Clean the house

You see what's at the bottom in those resolutions.  lol

Professional resolutions:

1.  Never ever do a blog tour around a holiday.

2.  Finish two short stories and submit.

3.  Finish two novels and submit.

4.  Promote next short story.

I have no idea how many of these I'll be able to keep, but I bet I keep some of them.

Enjoy the rest of 2013 because it won't be here again.  I hope 2014 is a healthy and Happy New Year for all of us.

Best always,

Funny how yours are almost exactly the same as mine! :)

Good luck! And Happy New Year

Great list, Sandra! I might need to pull a few of them for myself. Especially the exercise one. Apparently sitting in my car, my office, or on the couch doesn't constitute as actual exercise. Who knew! LOL

Wonderful list Sandy! I'm sure that just thinking about the goals will give you some inspiration to get them done. They do say that by writing them down it makes it more likely to happen. I wish you much success with your goals and all the best for 2014!

LOL Thanks, Victoria.

Thanks, Nicole. I think the exercise is the hardest one to keep.

Thank you, Melissa. I'm hoping the list does help.

I totally agree about NOT doing a blog tour during the holiday. Big mistake.

Great lists, Sandy. If I can keep my resolution to write 1000 words a day for three months as opposed to the two months I did this year, I'll be ahead of the game.

I need to resolve not to obsess over my book sales (or lack thereof) and to put it in perspective. Also to try to appreciate each day. If I could learn to do that last one, I will truly be in good shape.

Happy New Year!

LOL Tina, do you have to shout? You know I'm kidding, but I learned my lesson.

Thank you, Jean. It was a hard lesson to learn. Here, I thought it would be great to help sell my books. lol We'll see if it's worth it when I get my next royalty check.

Cara, I agree with you on appreciating each day. It would be win-win if we can do that. Life is short, and we need to enjoy the time we have.

I obsess over sales, too, Cara.

Good resolutions, Sandy. I like putting clean the house at #5. The other 4 are more important!
Enjoy each day, the people you surround yourself with, and find time for doing what YOU want!
Happy New Year!

Thank you, Marianne. Cleaning always comes last. Grin! To think I used to keep a really clean house. Now, a little dust doesn't seem like much of a problem. lol

Thanks for sharing, Sandy. I haven't made a list in years, but decided to for 2014. I guess writers think alike as my list matches yours almost word for word.
Happy New Year, Sandy!

Great resolutions, Sandy!

I hardly ever make resolutions for New Years. However, with that being said, I always set goals for myself - constantly. I'm always pushing myself to do more and trying to formulate a plan for the year to meet those goals.

Like I tell every person who wants to be a writer - dream as big as you want but set goals that are attainable. Use each attainable goal as a stepping stone toward that big dream.

I hope you are able to keep all those great resolutions, Sandy! Best of luck to you darlin!
