Interview of Liz Pelletier, Entangled Publishing

logo

Today I'm pleased to present an interview of Liz Pelletier and Entangled Publishing.

BIO:
Liz Pelletier is co-founder and managing partner of Savvy Media Services, which owns Savvy Authors and Savvy Readers. In addition to running a successful online writing community, Liz teaches courses on editing, query writing, and contract negotiations. She has also held board positions for various writing associations, managed and organized several writing conferences, and hosted a variety of free educational workshops for aspiring and established authors. Although she served part-time for twenty years as the editor for a broadly-circulated, weekly industry newspaper, she ran her own successful freelance consulting business for more than twenty years, often hired to leverage technological advances and more efficient workflow designs to increase profit margins. She uses these same skills to oversee all aspects of book production and distribution at Entangled. Liz also maintains her own stable of authors whom she either personally edits or works with an Associate Editor as a guiding influence and mentor. Find her on Twitter at @Liz_Pelletier.

Q: Describe your job.
A: I am the publisher at Entangled and therefore responsible for a myriad of decisions, from defining business strategies, approving acquisitions, guiding marketing proposals, and managing finances. A publisher must wear a dozen different hats, but I’m fortunate in that I also am able to craft a bit of time for editing as well and maintain a small stable of my own authors.

Q: How do you handle complaints/negative feedback from readers/authors?
A: We strive to offer the best experience possible for both readers and authors, and as such respond to complaints or negative feedback as an opportunity to improve.

Q: Ebooks or print. Do you read both? If you read ebooks, what reader do you have?
A: I read both, but prefer ebooks on my iPad.

Q: What do you consider the best way for an author to do promos?
A: Conferences and conventions.

Q: Do you attend any and how do you decide which ones to go to?
A: I attend RT every year as a rule as I feel it’s one of the largest conferences for both readers and authors. Beyond this, I am often invited to speak at various smaller RWA conferences around the country, and I prefer these to another large conference as there are more opportunities to meet authors and have one-on-one interactions.

Q: Chats. How important do you feel it is for authors to take part in chats on loops or at other romance sites?
A: I think networking and education are of primary importance for authors. As in any industry, it’s all about who you know and making a great first impression. In addition, the wealth of experience and support available to an author on writing loops is unprecedented. Reach out, meet, explore, share. You never know what bit of knowledge will help take your writing or business to the next level nor how your experiences will help another.

Q: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. Where do you appear?
A: I’m very active on Twitter (@liz_pelletier) and fairly active on Facebook (www.facebook.com/lizpelletier).

Three books published by Entangled Publishing:

Obsidian (A Lux Novel, Book One) by Jennifer L. Armentrout  - Genre: Young Adult
 BLURB:
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Extreme Love by Abby Niles - Genre: Contemporary Romance
BLURB:
Dante “Inferno” Jones is used to winning in the ring. But when the MMA fighter meets pretty Caitlyn Moore, he seems to be striking out left and right. The more Cait denies his advances, the more intrigued he becomes by the sharp-tongued beauty. She’s a challenge he can’t resist.

Comfortable with the average Joe, Cait doesn’t get it when the ultra-masculine Dante walks into her life and expresses an interest in her. Sure, she’s shed eighty pounds and her confidence is building, but there’s nothing spectacular about her. Certainly not enough to hang onto a ripped babe-magnet like Dante, whose violent profession, catty groupies, and cruel competitors are already making her life a living hell.

Dante’s light-hearted pursuit quickly becomes a battle to win her heart as they find themselves thrown together again and again—and it’s affecting his training. Cait won’t let him lose the biggest fight of his career because of her, but when her plan to keep him focused lands her in the dangerous clutches of Dante’s vicious opponent, there is more at stake than just the championship belt.

Rules of Entanglement (Fighting for Love, #2) by Gina L. Maxwell - Genre: Contemporary Romance
BLURB:

Seven days. And seven rules to break…

District Attorney Vanessa MacGregor firmly believes that structure and order are the stuff that dreams are made of. Happiness can be planned—and it starts with the seven rules she’s laid out for her future. But as she’s organizing her best friend’s wedding in Hawaii, all of Vanessa’s best-laid plans are about to meet their match in a wickedly hot MMA fighter…

Jackson “Jax” Maris is focused on surfing, training, and fighting. That is, until he opens up his big mouth, and finds himself having to pretend he’s engaged to his little sister’s best friend, Vanessa. When they’re forced to share a romantic bungalow, however, their little charade suddenly takes a turn for the seriously sexy. And while Jax is definitely not part of Vanessa’s long-term plan, he has seven days—and seven naughty nights—to turn her seven-rule plan upside down.

  17. Hello Liz.
It's great to learn a little more about someone I have a lot of respect for. Liz taught my first workshop I ever took, on editing. It was amazing and I published my first book this year because of what I learned. Loved the excerpts also. Three great stories I'll have to read. Thanks for sharing.
