BIO:
Canadian born and bred, Denysé has been signed with over a
dozen publishing houses in the past nine years. Recently winning the
prestigious title of Best Author of 2012 from the Predators and Editors
site, the best-selling author has been nominated for and won numerous
awards. Never confined to one genre, she writes in many and has garnered
a loyal audience of readers over the past decade.
Q: What part of the book is the easiest for you to write? Why?
A: Usually the easiest part of any book for me is the first few chapters, because this is when the idea is fresh and new, and my imagination is fired up and excited about the story. The stage is being set, and I’m getting to know the characters and what they’re all about, which is always interesting. My problem tends to occur about half-way when I’ve lost the first real sparks of challenge, and I get bored. That’s when I have to push myself to finish the story. It gets exciting for me again when I’m in edits, which is something many people hate, but for me it’s the best part of the whole process when I’m working with a good editor.
Q: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
A: I tend to always like the hero and the heroine about equally. Sometimes, if he’s really wicked and bent, even the villain becomes a favourite because he’s so much fun to write. The hero dominates the board most of the time, because he’s usually the one who is making things happen. The heroine is making changes occur on an emotional level in many ways. So, it’s a balance, despite its differences. I don’t tend to write heroines who are kick-ass except in the brains department, if she isn’t smart and savvy, why would a strong, Alpha male fall for her?
Q: If one of your books became a movie, which celebrity would you like to star as one of your heroes? Tell us about your hero.
A: Well, in reality the face of my current hero belongs to a very handsome model, not an actor, so I’d be really hard-pressed to name an actor! The hero of this book is a former military intelligence operative, world class James Bond type. He and the woman he loves more than his next breath have been separated for years because being in the same business drove them apart. Each of them tried to protect the other by leaving, and ten years later they’ve found each other again, but the past isn’t done with them yet...
Q: What’s your strongest point as a writer?
A: It seems to depend largely on the editor’s POV, really. Some have told me my strongest asset is my ability to write emotion, others say setting a scene that makes the reader feel like they’re in the story. Some have said dialogue. So I suppose there are several strengths that work together to make a strong voice and style. I like to think my strongest point is the ability to create people that readers care about and want to know better.
Q: You’re on a remote island with a handsome man, a computer, and a “mysterious” source of electricity to power your computer. What do you do?
A: Interview my handsome companion, then write a dazzling story about him that impresses him and entertains us both. *lol*
Q: Facebook, MySpace, Blogs, Chats, or Twitter. Which do you like best and why?
A: I have to admit, I love Twitter best! And I like the old MySpace. Both more than Facebook. Unfortunately, Facebook is a reality we all have to deal with in this business. I love my blogs, too. BUT, if I could only pick one, I think it would probably be Facebook for practical reasons, the diversity and reach it has is too necessary at this point.

BLURB:
A haunted and abandoned hotel on Halloween is the
setting for a very private party between two lovers, one of them a
world-class, sophisticated intelligence operative who’s trying to teach
his young and innocent lady that curiosity can sometimes take you places
you’d be better not to go. Amid elaborate trappings meant to scare and
entice, Rick’s seduction takes some unexpected but wickedly wonderful
twists. But, Rick also has a lesson to learn, when his past collides
with his present, and almost destroys everything he cherishes most.
EXCERPT:
Prologue
Rick
Leighton watched from his vantage point on the third floor of the
crumbling hotel. His mind was flip-flopping continually as he both
waited for his careful planning to reward him when Cindi walked into
this trap and worried about recent developments on the job. Rick had
worked in espionage for over fifteen years and he’d made more enemies
than he cared to think about. Lately, he was increasingly aware of the
shadows of his past closing in on his dreams and his waking hours.
He’d
left the intelligence field for a few years but inevitably been lured
back. He was considered one of the best in the business and, ego aside,
he knew he was good at the job. He was something of a legend in his
field, and a huge part of it was his successful use of the attraction so
many women felt for him. He’d never cared deeply enough for it to be a
problem, but he had tired of being the agency whore and it was
instrumental in his leaving. Then came the surprise of his life—and his
biggest weakness now—the woman he’d fallen in love with so unexpectedly.
Her father had been his mentor in many ways and, strained as their
relationship was at the moment, Rick knew Josh never stopped protecting
Cindi either.
He shook off his concerns the moment he
saw familiar golden-blonde hair, focusing on the elaborate game he’d set
in place for Cinthya Bradley. Her presence filled him with conflicting
responses, part of him furious at her lack of care in coming and part of
him undeniably thrilled by her arrival. He’d been planning this for
weeks, and now it was in play.
Drawing back from the
window, he smiled and extinguished the single candle that he’d lit while
waiting. Deep within the cavernous building, he heard a sound that was
suspiciously like a door being opened. He frowned as he considered the
direction it had come from, somewhere in the back of the ancient hotel.
Cindi should have been at the front. The second thump was at the front
and he dismissed the earlier sound as he slipped into position.
The
Mayfair was an old, old hotel, and a lot of things went bump in the
night when winds blew through the smashed-out windows and the various
entrances to the place creaked and groaned. He was being overly
paranoid. He’d felt someone lurking in the shadows for days, but no one
ever revealed themselves. He was suffering from job stress and needed
time off. It wasn’t the first time he’d felt ghosts around him.
Occupational hazard.
His grin slid into place when he heard the first telltale squeak of the stairs…
