BIO:
Always on the hunt for the uncommon things in life, author Sheri Fredricks thrives on creating adventures in her mythological kingdom for her readers.
A former engineering secretary, Sheri lives on the beautiful central coast of California. "I wanted to move away from inflexible right angles and create an unboxed world with no boundaries." A voracious reader since her early years, Sheri found her brain crowded with stories and characters of her own. "Ultimately," she says, "my husband encouraged me to write them all down."
Sheri loves to spend time at home. A computer hutch keeps her focused on creating stories, but the panoramic view of life on a ranch will call her outside to play in the sun.
Q: What’s the first thing you did when you received word you’d sold a book?
A: The moment I’ll never forget! It was close to dinnertime, my husband was working in his home office, and the kids were down at the barn doing chores.
I heard my email ding and checked my inbox. When I saw my publisher’s message, I couldn’t believe what I read.
Shocked, I walked into my husband’s office and told him I’d been offered a contract for Remedy Maker. When he whooped, I screamed, and I fell apart from there.
Q: What part of the book is the easiest for you to write? Why?
A: Any part that I’m really into, is the easiest for me to write. When I find myself in the zone and the words are coming faster than I can type, that would be the easy part. Several scenes of Remedy Maker came to me like this and I would write ten to fourteen pages a day.
Q: What part of the book is the hardest for you? Why?
A: I think the endings are the hardest for me. Making sure all the loose ends are tied up and nothing left undone is an important aspect of writing for me.
Q: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
A: All the characters are my favorites because of the different aspects of their personalities, but I totally fell for Rhycious. He’s so torn up inside and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the dude. Knowing how messed up he is, what did I do? I threw things in his path and messed with him some more. Buahahaha. In a way, he’s also the underdog — and who can resist cheering for a guy like that?
Q: Do all your heroes and all heroines look the same in your mind as you “head write”?
A: Good question, but no. When I first began writing, I didn’t have Internet access. To keep the characters straight in my head, I tore pictures from magazines and put them in page protectors along with hand written notes. It wasn’t until I joined an online writing and critiquing group that I discovered other people also did this. I like referring to pictures to motivate my muse.
Q: Do you eat comfort food when writing? If so, what food inspires your imagination?
A: While writing I don’t eat much food, but I do drink a lot of coffee!
Q: What hobby do you enjoy when not writing?
A: I should clarify that writing was meant to BE my hobby. So what entertainment did I find myself in prior to writing? Horseback riding and herding dogs, and I still enjoy both. While we don’t compete with the horses any longer, my husband has qualified for the National Finals with his Border Collies the last three consecutive years.
Q: You’re on a remote island with a handsome man, a computer, and a “mysterious” source of electricity to power your computer. What do you do?
A: The man would have to understand that the island paradise is a perfect place to get some serious writing done! Given my genre (erotic romance), I would need to discover a “new twist” on certain positions . . . er situations, and would need his input at a moment’s notice. That, and he can hunt for our food. LOL
Q: What genre would you like to try writing in but haven’t yet done so? Why?
A: One day, I think I might try my hand at Young Adult Action Adventure. I’ve been reading nightly to my youngest son from the series called The 39 Clues. We’re on the ninth book and we’ve loved every one.
If I could write a book targeted for a younger audience, maybe I could influence a child to pick up another book . . . and another. All great leaders read.
Q: Facebook, MySpace, Blogs, Chats, or Twitter. Which do you like best and why?
A: I’m a Facebook addict - *hangs head*. I love to check in and scan the pages to see what everyone’s been up to. The posted pictures are certainly a bonus.

BLURB:
Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.
He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.
Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.
Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.
When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.
Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?
EXCERPT:
“Should we practice our joint effort, polytima, and see how good we can be together?”
How much hotter could they possibly get? Much as she hated flames, her body burned hot enough to internally combust.
“Rhycious!” she cried out, going for a scolding tone. But it came across as a sensual invitation.
His arm tightened around her waist, drawing her the wasted millimeter of space nearer. Patience’s mind spun. A man who wanted her was holding her in his arms. She closed her eyes. His mouth traveled up her throat, licking and sucking, until he settled over her lips once more. Persistent and demanding, his tongue slid along the seam until she complied and opened.
He charged right in like a Centaur warrior would, drawing her tongue into battle with his. Feinting and parrying, they slid sensuously against one another.
“My gods, Patience. You taste so damn good.”
And Rhycious tasted of pure Elysium, sending a tingle of exquisite warmth to a spot deep within her. A breathless tension coiled. “Your coffee tastes better than mine.”
His hand cupping her bottom alternated between kneading the cheek and rubbing sumptuous circles. The clench of desire increased between her thighs. She moaned her approval. His other hand traveled upward from her waist and settled under the heavy fall of hair, massaging the base of her skull.
Rhycious backed her up until her knees hit the couch, and buckled. He followed her down, arranging her body to stretch out beneath him, his hips spreading her thighs wide. Leaning on one elbow, he used his free hand to push the hair off her face. His feral gleam intensified, and his tawny eyes bore into hers.
Anything else you’d like to add?
If you're looking for a book that will take you away to a mythic world that might exist . . .
If you love hot guys with insatiable appetites who have a dash of vulnerability . . .
If you're looking for a sensual read with the power to make you gasp . . .
This would be the book for you.
I loved this excerpt. I could do with a little vacation somewhere mythical.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect weekend read. :)
I love your tropical island question! Since I don't write, I could use the internet to order more books though and then use those for "inspiration"
ReplyDeleteThis does sound like a good book and start of a new series. Congrats.
