Guest Blog: Vijaya Schartz: What Prompted Me to Write SNATCHED

I've always enjoyed writing less than perfect and very human heroines with likeable flaws. But my heroines usually carry guns, swords, and often wear a uniform. They sometimes travel on spaceships. In this story, however, I imagined what would happen if you stripped a well adjusted modern female military officer of her entire support system, her entire world, and threw her into a totally alien universe.

Alien is the key word here. Alien abduction, time travel, parallel universe... my kind of story. She is snatched from her post-apocalyptic Earth battlefield by an alien ship. If you know my books, it's not so farfetched. Sci-fi is my love, my weakness. Even my husband says that I am a reincarnation from the future. But Zania is a tough girl. She doesn't give up easily. Military training is ingrained in her mind and body. So, she fights back. I love a tough girl.

Another favorite theme of mine is Human cunning against malevolent alien foes of superior technology. So the world where her abductors sold Zania is a contrast of advanced technology and wild jungles with man-eating tigers, and an illegal fringe dealing in forbidden entertainment, specifically combat to the death in the arena, like the gladiators of old.

So imagine the conflict of this modern woman, sold to an Amazon tribe of fighting slaves. Throw in a gorgeous Viking, a jealous Amazon queen, a would-be female lover, a rumbling volcano, crooked space traders, a slave revolt, and you have the perfect panacea for an action filled romantic adventure with plenty of conflict to keep you turning the pages until the very end.
