Seen from a global perspective, the freedom of women in the USA is a rare jewel that must be maintained with awareness if it is to be preserved. I've also noticed that the contributions of many women were kept silent because it made them easier to control. We must continue the fight if we don't want to end up silenced. There have always been women who hid their gender in order to do what they wanted...pony express rider, doctor, gunslinger. But it's not enough to teach our daughters but also our sons that women are valued and strong. :) Thank you for the wonderful reminder of history and what it took to get us to this point. Every anecdote reminded me of something.

The woman captured by the Shawnee is like a couple of novels I read by Beth Trissel. A woman runs away from home, is captured by a Native American warrior, when family comes to repatriate her she doesn't want to go back, is forced to by the kind of brutal relatives that made her want to run away. Her warrior husband rescues her back.

I've been to Poland and Sicily. My grandparents were all immigrated between 1889 and 1911. My mother grew up in North Dakota. Everyone in her home town spoke German, learning English only when they went to school. in WWII their Lutheran pastors were not allowed to hold services in German by law.

The Hobby Lobby decision has gotten me into trouble because of Facebook posts and comments. My daughter who lives in Texas and shops at Hobby Lobby raked me over the coals for my political statements. I have one Facebook friend who posts pro gay/lesbian memes and articles as well as pictures of "voluptuous divas" heard my rant about not being able to post anything my daughter would read anymore.
When I was arguing with her by SMS the lyrics to the song Won't Back Down kept running through my head.

I have reached the age where I should not have to worry about saying something embarrassing.

A former Navy coworker of mine worked part time at a hospital clinical lab. He found out that the women in the lab, even full time were making less money than he was. He talked them into all asking for more money and not just taking what was offered.
He thought that if women in the workplace were more assertive they would get further ahead. Unfortunately many men are Neanderthals who think assertive women are being bitchy.

Rayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01308737766288257680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5742415355016995707.post-73662745051011000392014-07-04T11:09:58.414-04:002014-07-04T11:09:58.414-04:00Wonderful information and stories about your famil...Wonderful information and stories about your family, especially the women. Has the country forgotten that on the long trek across the country from east to west in search of a new life, that the men rode horses and drove the wagons and women WALKED! They walked, did the laundry when possible, made meals, had babies, almost all silently. In their diaries they barely mentioned the births of their own children. It wasn't proper to speak of it.

I have no knowledge of the history of my family. I have some photos of my ancestors and a spinning wheel said to belong to a great grandmother from Sweden.

Without getting TOO political here, some people have to remember that the women and children flooding our country at the moment ARE women with small children. The protests are shameful. janeleopoldquinn.blogspot.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05393771532686229258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5742415355016995707.post-6135628551636228572014-07-04T10:56:38.165-04:002014-07-04T10:56:38.165-04:00We Americans are such a diverse lot!
