I know the holidays have become commercialized but Thanksgiving has always been one of those times that my family celebrated their ethnic roots with food. We may have had a traditional turkey and dressing but there was also Polish Sausage and Povitica (nut bread). No green bean casserole, though:) There is quite an emphasis on food but I think we might be able to track that back to leaner times-- the war years, the depression, the dust bowl--and the generations were influenced by that time.<br /><br />I have to agree with you about how the schools don't teach history anymore.
