Author Marianne Rice visits the #RB4U Blog today! #AtFirstBlush @mariannericeaut

Welcome to Romance Books 4 Us, a place for all romance and all genres. We’re very happy to have you here with us today. First, tell us a little bit about yourself…

Please tell us a little about yourself…
Thank you for having me today! A little about myself...well, I’m a mother of three crazies--16,14, and 11 years old--(which also makes me a chef, maid, servant, chauffeur, therapist, judge, and nag), a wife of an overworked and incredibly loyal husband, a full time teacher, a writer, and a lover of dark chocolate, wine, and Chris Hemsworth.

What or who initially inspired you to become a writer?
No one in particular, but I fell in love with the contemporary romance genre. After reading hundreds and hundreds of books, stories of my own started forming in my mind. It was when I was home on maternity leave with my then 4, 2, and newborn that I started writing.

What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?
Well, it didn’t start out as book research, but a few years ago my sister-in-law and a few friends of ours visited some local wineries and we fell in love. I especially love the story of the Zanellos of Zorvino Vineyards in Sandown, New Hampshire. What a fun couple and a gorgeous vineyard! I was hooked not only on their fabulous wine, especially their Fragole Z (a strawberry blend wine) and Mapplez (apples and maple syrup!). From here, At First Blush was formed, and then my Well Paired series fell into place.

Do real life events find their way into your stories?
I don’t force them, but if something in my life has inspired a story, or I’ve said, that has to go in a book, it will. The opening scene in Wilde for You is loosely based on real events and many of the conversations and one-liners from kids in my books come from my son.

When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?
I write when I can. I go in spurts of writing every day and then not at all for months at a time. As a teacher, the summer gives me the most writing time. I write a lot during school breaks as well. I make yearly writing goals since my days are dictated by crazy sports schedules.

Do you ever see yourself as the heroine/hero or find yourself relating to them when you write a story?
I don’t write myself into stories intentionally, but I’ve found pieces of myself in characters. Rayne, the middle sister in Sweet on You is the one I can identify with the most. She is always taking care of everyone else, trying to be the peacemaker in the family. I can relate. Other than that, there may be a line here or there that I’ve said to someone at some point in time, but I don’t base any of my characters on family or friends.

Do you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?
When the kids were little, I could only write when they were in bed. Now that they’re older, I write where I can. I’m currently sitting by the fire while my middle is in the kitchen making pancakes for her friends who slept over last night. In the summer, I write in my bed when I wake up. At night, I write in my office. I guess weather and time are a factor.

As a reader, what types of genres do you enjoy? And do you think they influence the genre/genres you write in?
I love contemporary romance and women’s fiction. My new release, At First Blush, is a blend of both. Some of my favorite contemporary romance authors are “crossing over” and I love the genre. But really, I just write. When I type THE END I figure out what genre it is. My Well Paired series seems to be a blend as well. It’s romance driven, but a lot of family and emotional angst woven in.

What is your ideal romantic vacation?
Warm weather, chaise lounge, cocktails, books...oh, wait. You said romantic. ;-) I suppose anywhere with my husband without the kids. Which rarely happens. If we can combine my first response and add my husband at my side, I’m good!

Where can our readers find you

Is there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?

It's nice to meet you...#RB4U #joannejaytanie #RomanticSuspense #SupernaturalSuspense

Happy January 29th!

2017 flew by and 2018 has barreled in like a freight train. It seems like each year slips by faster and faster. But, don’t forget, it’s important for us to slow down, relax, and take some time for ourselves. I think one of the best ways to unwind is - pick up a book, turn on some music, and cuddle in your favorite chair.

This is my first blog, and I’m super excited to be here. I’d like to help you take some time away from your fast-paced life, and introduce my books to you. I write romantic suspense and romantic suspense with supernatural elements. I also write novellas in contemporary romance - usually with a touch of suspense.

The Winters Sisters is a romantic suspense and supernatural series. Chasing Victory is book one.

Everybody’s chasing Victory: a power-hungry scientist, a corrupt conglomerate, and her own government.

Victory Winters is on the run. A world-renowned geneticist, her mission involves conquering disease and improving quality of life. But a co-worker has been murdered, putting Victory and her mission in danger. Chasing her are all sorts of men who want to recruit and control her, manipulating her genetic secrets and research for their own corrupt purposes.

Naval officer Tristan Farraday is undercover investigating Biotec, a conglomerate that trumpets a better tomorrow in its bright, shiny annual reports. But Tristan’s bosses suspect that beneath Biotec’s carefully-managed exterior lies more than simple violations of a few experimental protocols.

Farraday is following a trail of murder, kidnapping, and blackmail. The trail leads him to Victory, who has been forced into Biotec’s world. Can Tristan chase down the truth and win the race for Victory?

If you go over to my website and sign up for my newsletter, you’ll receive a copy of Chasing Victory as my thank you for signing up.

Wishing you a fantastic 2018.

Looking forward to next month…

#NewRelease #99cents Simply Irresistible: A Romance Books 4 Us Collection by Janice Seagraves

Simply Irresistible: A Romance Books 4 Us Collection

I'm so excited about our new anthology, it has my story Cowgirl Up which follows my earlier story Follow Your Cowboy Heart in the Roping the Cowboy: 7 Romances on the Range.

Follow Your Cowboy Heart was about Maxwell Dréville, and you get to meet his family, including his sister Gwen. Cowgirl Up is Gwen's story about how she met her man.  This story is actually from an much, much earlier never before published manuscript that I wrote ages ago. I love Gwen and her family. This is a story from my heart.

Enjoy.

Arthur Castel is a bored, handsome, charming playboy and college student who has dated many women in his social circle, but none of them keeps his attention for long. Enter Gwen Dréville, a spunky hard-working country girl, whom Arthur sets his sights on seducing. Gwen has a secret— she’s a powerful empath. Her ability has a dark side. When someone makes her angry she can find their worst fear and make them relive it. But, as a virgin, she doesn’t know if she possesses the family curse to sexually bond with whomever she sleeps with for the very first time.

Author and Gwen took their drinks and number plaque to a nearby table.

Gwen glanced at Arthur with a twinkle in her eye. “Air hockey?”

“I thought you’d never ask.” He pulled out his wallet. “I’ve got to warn you, I’m quite good at it.”

“So am I. Feed the machine already.” She took off her new jacket and tied her T-shirt in a knot to keep it out of the way, but it accented her hourglass figure.

Arthur tore his gaze away long enough to feed the coin machine, then slipped a token into the air hockey table. I’m glad she suggested playing a game. Most of the women I date would have complained they might break a nail.

They got it going pretty good for a while. Gwen won the first round. During the next one, Arthur used his longer arms to his advantageadvantage and won a point.

“Okay, Gwen, if I win this time, you’ll have to give me something.”

“Like what?”

“A kiss.” He winked.

“What do I get if I win?”

“Twenty bucks,” he said.

She arched an eyebrow. “Does that mean my kisses are worth twenty bucks?”

“I don’t know—I haven’t kissed you yet. Your kisses might be worthless,” he told her with a teasing grin.

The animation in her face disappeared. “Put a token in the machine, smarty pants.”

The game went on for a long time. Their pizza finally arrived, but neither still scored a point on the other.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d think you didn’t want a kiss.” He slammed his paddle into the puck.

“Maybe I’m afraid you’ll have bad breath after eating the pizza.” She darted forward to counter his move.

Arthur bounced the puck off both sides, but she managed to hit the puck back.

“What if I kiss you before we eat the pizza?” He tried the move again. Is she tiring?

“In front of all these people?” she asked, countering his play.

“What people? There’s hardly anyone in here. What kind of kiss do you think I’m going to—uh—give you?” He executed a move that won him the air hockey championship on campus.

She knocked the puck back. “Don’t know, what is a twenty-dollar kiss like?”

Damn, she’s good. “You’re trying to distract me.”

“You don’t know me, so I’ll tell you.” She punctuated each thing she said with a hit on the puck. “I don’t cheat. I don’t lie. And I mean everything…I…say.” Then she madesome fancy maneuver his eyes couldn’t follow and scored the winning point. Gwen’s bangs fell over the side of her lovely face and her ponytail lay across one shoulder. Sweat glisten on her skin. Her breasts heaved with exertion while her smile twisted to one side.

She’s sexier right now in that old paint splattered T-shirt, without any makeup than Katrina or any other woman in my friend group. “I guess you really don’t want a kiss after all?”

“Maybe, or I really need the twenty for gas,” she countered. “Come on let’s eat before the pizza gets cold.”

Excerpt:

Beyond Danger
Pleasant Hill, Texas

Beau could hardly believe it.  His father was sixty years old!  The girl sitting across from him in a booth at the Pleasant Hill Café looked like a teenager.  A very pregnant teenager.
“Everything’s going to be okay, Missy,” Beau Reese said.  “You don’t have to worry about anything from now on.  I’ll make sure everything is taken care of from here on out.”
“He bought me presents,” the girl said, dabbing a Kleenex against the tears in her eyes.  “He told me how pretty I was, how much he liked being with me.  I thought he loved me.”
Fat chance of that, Beau thought.  His dad had never loved anyone but himself.
Shoving a hand through his wavy black hair, Beau took a steadying breath.  He had always wanted a baby brother or sister.  Now at the age of thirty five, he was finally going to have one.
Beau felt a surge of protectiveness toward the young woman carrying his father’s child.
He looked over to where she sat hunched over next to her mother on the opposite side of the pink vinyl booth.  “Everybody makes mistakes, Missy.  You picked the wrong guy, that’s all.  Doesn’t mean you won’t have a great kid.”
For the first time since his arrival, Missy managed a tentative smile.  “Thank you for saying that.”
Beau returned the smile.  “I’m going to have a baby sister.  I promise she won’t have to worry about a thing from the day she’s born into this world.”  Hell, he was worth more than half a billion dollars.  He would see the child had everything she ever wanted.
When Missy’s lips trembled, her mother scooted out of the booth.  “I think she’s had enough for today.  This is all very hard on her and I don’t want her getting overly tired.”  Josie reached for her daughter’s hand.  “Let’s go home, honey.  You’ll feel better after a nap.”
Beau got up, too, leaned over and brushed a kiss on Missy’s cheek.  “You both have my number.  If you need anything, call me.  Okay?”
Missy swallowed.  “Okay.”
“I should have called you sooner.”  Josie’s eyes teared up.  “I didn’t know how I was going to manage the bills all by myself.  “Thank you, Beau.”
“Everything’s going to be okay.”  He watched the women head for the door, the bell ringing as Josie shoved it open and she and Missy walked out of the café.
Leaving money on the table for his coffee, he followed the women out the door, his temper climbing toward the boiling point.  His father should be the one handling Missy’s pregnancy.  He’d had months to step up and do the right thing.  Beau figured he never would.
As he crossed the sidewalk and opened the door of his dark blue Ferrari, his temper cranked up another notch.  By the time the car was roaring along the road to his father’s house, his fury was bubbling just below the surface.
Unconsciously his foot pressed harder on the gas, urging the car down the two-lane road at well over eighty miles an hour.  With too many tickets in Howler County already, he forced himself to slow down.
Making the turn into Country Club Estates, he jammed on the brakes and the car slid to a stop in front of the house.  The white, two-story home he’d been raised in oozed Southern charm, the row of columns out front mimicking an old-style plantation.
Climbing out of the Ferrari, one of his favorite vehicles, he pounded up the front steps and crossed the porch.  The housekeeper had Mondays and Tuesdays off so he used his key to let himself into the entry.
On this chilly, end-of-January day, the ceiling fans hadn’t been turned on, leaving the interior strangely silent.  The ticking of the ornate grandfather clock in the living room seemed louder than it usually did.
“Dad!  It’s Beau!  Where are you?”  When he didn’t get an answer, he strode down the hall toward the study.  He had phoned his father on his way here from Dallas.  Though he’d done his best to keep the anger out of his voice, he wasn’t sure he had succeeded.  Maybe his father had left to avoid him.
“Dad!”  Still no answer.  Beau continued down the hall, his footsteps echoing in the quiet.  As he reached the study, he noticed the door standing slightly ajar.  Steeling himself for the confrontation ahead, he clamped down on his temper and shoved open the door.
His father wasn’t sitting at the big rosewood desk or in his favorite overstuffed chair next to the fireplace.  Beau started to turn away when an odd gurgling sound sent the hairs up on the back of his neck.
“Dad!”  At the opposite end of the desk, Beau spotted a prone figure lying on the floor in a spreading pool of blood.  “Dad!”  The handle of a letter opener protruded from the middle of his chest.
Beau raced to his father’s side.  “Dad!”  Blood oozed from the wound in his chest and streamed onto the hardwood floor.  He had to stop the bleeding and he had to do it now!
He hesitated, praying he wouldn’t make it worse, then with no other option, grabbed the handle of the letter opener, jerked it out, gripped the front of his dad’s white shirt and ripped it open.
“Oh, my God!  What are you--”
Beau glanced up to see the woman, Cassidy Jones, standing in the doorway.  “Call 9-1-1!  Hurry, he’s been stabbed!  Hurry!”
The shapely brunette, his father’s newly hired personal assistant, didn’t pause, just pulled out her cell and dialed the emergency number.
Beau’s hand shook as he checked for a pulse, found none.  The wound was catastrophic, a stab wound straight to the heart.  No way could his father survive it.
Cassidy ran over and knelt on the floor beside him.  “Here, use this to seal the hole.”  She seemed amazingly in control as she handed him a credit card then ran to the wet bar and grabbed a towel, rushed back and handed it over.
Beau pressed the towel over the credit card on top of the hole, all the while knowing his father was already dead or within moments of dying.  Whoever had stabbed him knew exactly where to bury the blade.
Cassidy reached down to check for herself, pressing her fingers in exactly the right spot on the side of his father’s neck.  She had to know it was hopeless, just as he did, must have known Stewart Reese was dead.
“I’m sorry,” she said.
Sorrow slid through him, making his chest clamp down.  Or maybe it was sadness for the kind of man his father was, the kind who had wound up the victim of a killer.
He felt Cassidy’s eyes on him, assessing him with speculation--or was it suspicion?
Beau looked down at his father, his eyes closed, his face slack in death.  Stuart Reese was dead and Beau wanted answers.  He vowed whatever it took, for as long as it took, he wouldn’t stop until he found the man who had murdered his dad.
