Whom Gods Have Favoured #RB4U #vampire #romance #MFRWauthor

This is an EROTIC/VAMPIRE historical..... it's set in Ancient Pompeii, mostly, and moves into modern time..... it contains a great deal of sexual content, and historical accuracy about the decadence of the Romans of that era. It was fascinating to write, and as you can see, the cover is a stunner..... I hope your curiosity will be piqued, and you'll consider adding this one to your collection - the reviews are amazing... and I think you'll find it a satisfying read! I’ve also just put the book into print, it’s economically priced, and looks wonderful!

WHOM GODS HAVE FAVOURED

In print: CreateSpace | Amazon

Pompeii lies complacent and decadent in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, the populace thriving on their depravity and their hunger for blood and Games. Within the elite aristocracy, games of another type are being played, deadly secrets are a threat to more than status, and conspiracy is a way of life for those who are unhappy.

Lucius has long been exalted as a warrior without peer. Adored and covetted by men and women alike, he is blind to the plots that are thickening around him. While total control is his on the bloody fields of war, on the battlefield of the heart, as he is about to discover, even the strongest man can be deceived by his ignorance.

Watching over it all is the majesty of Vesuvius, sputtering smoke, promising retribution. In the midst of the looming destruction, an ancient evil emerges, and will claim not only a celebrated general of Rome, but the slave girl he has slowly grown to love and cherish. A girl who will follow him into hell itself?

Excerpt:

Pompeii—Under the rule of the Emperor Vespasian

“The Emperor is most pleased with your progress, General,” Proconsul Flavius noted as he strolled the market streets with Pompeii’s illustrious hero. They proceeded without impediment as the people of the busy city cleared a path for them.
The general, Lucius, smiled, pleased by the undercurrent of fear that marked his passage. He enjoyed the power his position gave him, and the recognition of it came in various forms. Even the proconsul wasn’t entirely at ease with him.
“And well he should be, Proconsul. Resistance is crumbling. Another victory and Gaul will truly be defeated.”
They had reached the slave market, and Lucius stopped as a scream rose above the usual noises of the area. He felt an unwelcome empathy for the terror he heard in the voice, and was annoyed by the surprising emotion.
The slave-dealer’s bellow rang out and drowned the girl’s frightened shrieks. Unconsciously, Lucius turned to look at the raised platform that displayed the slaves being auctioned off to the highest bidders. The dealer slapped the girl across the face and silenced her before he turned his attention to the gathered buyers.
I’m told her name is Xina,” the dealer called out. “Not part of my shipment, good gentlemen, but a last minute addition. Seems she knifed a soldier last night when he refused to pay a fair price for her.” He laughed lewdly and hauled the girl forward so the crowd could look more closely at her.
Despite her obvious desire to remain immune to what was happening to her, her cheeks flamed scarlet when the slaver tore open her gown and left her nakedness displayed for the eager bidders. Almost immediately voices rose and purses were offered. Lucius watched as she closed her eyes and tears spilled from the corners.
“She is a beauty,” the proconsul observed with a laugh. “And a dangerous one, at that.”
Lucius laughed with the shorter man, but his gaze was drawn back to the girl. She couldn’t have been more than sixteen or seventeen, if she was that old. The trader knotted his fingers in long waves of light brown hair and pulled the concealing mass away from her body so the view was unobstructed. Her eyes stayed closed, but her chin lifted and she stood with proud defiance as the raucous bids and laughs continued.
A slow, indolent sweep of her body stirred more than curiosity within the general. His gaze caressed golden flesh, noted the smooth swell of full, brown tipped breasts, the small waist that flared into sensuously rounded hips. Firm, curved thighs were topped by an enticing triangle of sand-colored curls, and the ties of the sandals she wore twined around well-shaped calves like serpents lazing in the sun. Slender arms were tensed, muscles quivering with the effort to mask her fury, and her small hands tangled in the folds of her shredded gown where it hung limply from her shoulders.
“Who is she?” Lucius asked, surprised by his own interest when the proconsul stared up at him, clearly startled by the query.
“You don’t want that one, Lucius,” he advised. “Nydia would destroy her overnight.”
The general smiled again, but let his expression grow icy. The glitter of carefully controlled, lethal rage created a distinct shudder of terror within the Proconsul of Pompeii.
“You haven’t answered my question, Proconsul,” he whispered, his tone cool.
“Xina is the daughter of one of Boudica’s whores,” the other man supplied after a moment’s thought. “She’s been in the brothel since the day of her birth.”
Lucius raised an eyebrow and waited for the official to finish his narrative.
“Her brother, Plautus, is the current champion of Pompeii. Her mother died recently, while Plautus was away from the city, and Boudica decided it was time for the girl to earn her keep until her brother’s return.”
“That woman should be fed to the crowd during games,” Lucius muttered grimly. It was quite clear that Xina was not a common whore, despite her background. Not that it mattered, he mused. Before he was through with her she’d be well versed in a great number of arts necessary to a whore’s survival.
Without warning, Lucius strode into the crowd and headed toward the auction block. He yanked a purse from his belt, threw it toward the dealer, and continued onto the platform. The crowd rumbled with subdued irritation, but none dared defy Pompeii’s most renowned general as he took the girl by the arm and led her from the marketplace.

The Power of the Cover with Author Seelie Kay today on #RB4U

The Power of the Cover
When I am looking for a hot read, two things push me toward the cash register: The cover and the blurb.  But the cover, oh, that cover. That can make me stop dead in the middle of an aisle, take a few steps back, and grab a book from the shelf. The blurb merely reinforces my first impression, or not.
There are all sorts of covers, of course.  For most authors, the trick is creating a cover that actually conveys the essence of the story inside and grabs the attention of the reader. That’s not easy. My publisher requires that I complete a form for each book.  I am asked about the key elements of the story and what I think would make an ideal cover. That information is submitted to a cover designer. Then, when I get the first proposed cover, we negotiate.  I tell the designer what I like and don’t like. I make suggestions as to what will make the content clearer or more appealing. And when dealing with books in my Kinky Briefs series, I make sure that the consistent elements are always present.
For example, Kinky Briefs is a collection of “Sizzling short stories about lawyers in love, with a dash of kink.” The stories are told from the perspective of a young female lawyer who toils in the backroom of a law firm. (As a former lawyer, that perspective seemed fitting.) The stories encompass everything from drama and humor to tragedy and redemption.  There are currently three books in the series and a fourth is on the way. So I need those covers to clearly convey that the book is part of a series, as well as communicate that the stories are told from the perspective of a young female lawyer, and involve romance and kink.
Here’s what we came up with. To indicate that the books are part of a series, the words “Kinky Briefs” appears on the cover in a consistent typeface, size, and color, with the position of the book in the series (Too, Thrice, Quattro) added. To convey that the stories are about lawyers in love, we added a tagline that includes the words lawyers, love, and kink. To communicate that that the stories are told from the perspective of a young female lawyer, we decided on the half-figure of a young female dressed professionally, but youthfully, not in the stuffy designer suits some older female lawyers wear. Finally, to emphasize that the stories include a dash of kink, an open briefcase with a pair of handcuffs peeking out always appears somewhere on the cover.
When the covers are placed side by side, it is clear they are part of a series. Then the blurb is used to reveal the variety of stories each volume contains.
As to the perfect cover, the one that made me stop in my tracks, take a few steps back, and grab the book off the shelf?  I have to give that to my latest novella, A Touchdown To Remember, part of Extasy Books’ 2017 Stocking Stuffing series. Although a generic cover is used for the entire series, the gorgeous half-clothed man donning a Santa hat, a man with a bit of stubble, dark hair, and incredible blue eyes, that made my eyes glaze over with lust and my heart go pitter patter.
If I saw that cover in a bookstore, I would buy the book merely to keep the cover under my pillow to feed my dreams at night!

#99Cents or Free on #Kindleunlinited #Sci-Fi #Romance Exodus Arcon Book One

I hope everyone (in the US) had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones. And I hope everyone else had a fantastic weekend.

I had a special surprise before Thanksgiving, my publisher, Keith Publications, released Exodus Arcon. The prequel to Alien Heart (Chronicles of Arcon Book 1).

I originally wrote this mini series to understand the Arcon males I wrote about in Alien Heart. I needed to know what made them tick, their passions, and why they left their planet.

Arcons Are Coming
Exodus Arcon Trailer

Exodus Arcon: Prelude to Book 1 Alien Heart: Chronicles of Arcon

ExodusArconOne_432

Blurb: With their planet about to be destroyed by solar storms, the inhabitants of planet Arcon need to leave. They build three big spaceships to cross the stellar reaches of space. Only their government and the most gifted people can come. Everyone else has to take their chances with the lottery.
But one family cheats.
Aziza must pretend her consort’s brothers are her mates. Because Arcon justice is harsh and swift, the brothers must never reveal to anyone that they aren’t truly mated.

Excerpt: Paz picked his way through the scattered toys. Like most young, unmated males, his long white-and-green hair trailed down his back. Finally making it to Keefe, he gave him a hug.

Keefe looked down him. “How are you, youngling?”

“Great! After my school examinations, my instructors told me I will be a scientist.” A proud smile lit his face.

“That’s wonderful, Paz.” Keefe returned returned the smile, but pressure built in his chest. He and Aziza had come to find out if his mother would be joining them. If she didn’t go, his little brother wouldn’t either. Unfortunately, that would mean Paz would have no chance at a future at all.

“I’ve been learning about Earth. Did you know they have five fingers and five toes, instead of four as we do?” He waved his four-fingered hand then wrinkled his nose. “Creepy.”

“Keefe, my offspring, you have no greeting for your maternal unit?” Ynyr asked.

“My apologies, Ynyr.” He approached his mother, careful of the tubes that kept her alive, and embraced her. Then he gently kissed her withered cheek. “How is the most gorgeous female in the galaxy?”

“Flatterer,” she scolded and fluffed her almost-white ponytail. Her lavender hair color was nearly gone, an indication of illness. But she had been considered a great beauty in her youth, and the males in her family continued to treat her as if she still were. “I have to ask your mate something. Go stand by Neron.” She shooed Keefe away.

He obediently joined the youngest of his three paternal units and gripped forearms with him. “What’s this about?”

“Ynyr will be asking something extremely hard of your mate. So, please be supportive of your maternal unit.”

“Why?”

Neron’s expression became serious. “It’s important for the survival of our family line, my son.”

5 Things ~ #LynnCrain #AmGrateful #RB4Us

I know that some people will think the Thanksgiving thing has played itself out for the year but I do have some things to say about it. So here goes.

This year has been really weird for my family, starting on January 3rd when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. While we’ve maintained as much of a normal life as possible, it’s also given me lots of time to reflect upon things too. And because I could make a massive list, I’ve honed it down to just five things.

My Family ~ Even though my husband had a hard year, we’ll be ending it well with his full remission. His health is getting better. Our sons supported us this year and kept our spirits high when things got intense. Family is all about the ups and downs of life. You can’t have one without the other.

My Writing ~ I’ll be honest, I couldn’t have survived this year without my writing. It kept me focused and on track with life and all the nuances it threw at me throughout the year. Writing is one of the most portable things that a person can ever do. It didn’t matter if I was sitting in a hospital waiting room or taking care of the grandkids, I could pull out my phone or writing pad and get to work. There is no other profession that makes it so easy to have a career while in the midst of tragedy.

My Writing Friends ~ I’ve been a writer a long, long time and have met a lot of great people on the way. Many of those friends, I know I can call day or night with a problem. Like when my husband was diagnosed, I texted a writing friend just three words, ‘He has it’, and she called me within twenty minutes. We are an amazing group of people and are willing to share our experiences, our shoulders and most of all our time when one of our own is in trouble.

My Writing Groups ~ While I’m fairly new to Romance Books 4 Us, the ladies here have supported me forever. And I am grateful for that camaraderie. Writing groups keep us accountable, focused and reminds us over and over that we can become exactly who we want to be in our profession.

Everything Else ~ I am thankful for the fact my husband has a great job, and we have enough of everything. From the roof over my head to the homeless person on the corner in many American cities, I am grateful for you because you remind me of what I have and that I need to help more because I am so blessed.

And that’s it. Short, sweet and to the point.

But there’s one last thing…there’s a song I love every time I hear it…it’s called Life’s A Dance. I heard it today on the long drive from Nevada to New Mexico, and it jogs my memory again. We aren’t expected to know it all, but we should be able to learn new things as we need them. Life is something you learn as you go. As I get older, I get more and more grateful for the simple things in life, the things near and dear to my heart. And that includes Cara Marsi’s list of simple things, especially her number #1. I too am thankful the Zombie Apocolypse hasn’t happened.

What about you? Just what all are you thankful for? See you next month!

Hope you all have a great month…see you next time!

Give Thanks for the Simple Things

With Thanksgiving yesterday, most of us take the time to reflect on those things we’re most thankful for. I give thanks for my husband and son, and that we’re all healthy. I’m thankful we have enough food to eat and a roof over our heads.

With my husband at the Wynn in Las Vegas
Son at Hoover Dam

However, I thought it would be fun to list other more simple, even silly, things I’m thankful for, those things that give me pleasure, no matter how small. Here’s my list, not in any particular order.

·       The Zombie Apocalypse hasn’t happened yet
·       That first sip of coffee in the morning
·       That first sip of wine with my evening meal
·       Happy Hour at my favorite watering holes
·       Weight Watchers cream cheese slathered on a Thomas’ bagel thin (only 5 WW Smartpoints)
·       Williams-Sonoma Pecan Pumpkin Butter
·       Anything pumpkin
·       Netflix
·       Dark chocolate with rich, red wine
·       Romance novel heroes with their sculpted bodies and lovemaking skills, but most of all their kindness toward others and their willingness to sacrifice for those they love
·       Hallmark Christmas movies
·       Christmas songs
·       Scoring a Kate Spade handbag at a deep, deep discount
·       Scoring anything at a discount
·       Any day the sun shines
·       Girlfriends
·       Books, mine and others I love
·       My cats
·       Mani-pedis
·       Sandals
·       Homemade soup

Brewster & Tortie Chillin'

I could go on and on but then I’d never finish this blog. What are your favorite simple pleasures?

Take time from your busy holiday schedules to read a romance, hopefully my brand new Gambling on Love Series. All three stories are now available in a boxed set, The Gambling on Love Trilogy, soon in print also.

Falling into Winter

I'm still surrounded by all things fall. The big arrangement of silk flowers in brown and gold and orange, a kabocha squash on the shelf, soon to go from decoration to dinner, a swag of multi-hued leaves on the front door  and a Cinderella pumpkin on the front porch.  It's bittersweet to know that in a few days all those things will be gone and it will be time to turn to the winter holidays. My folks have arrived for Thanksgiving a few days early and the TV is already turned to Christmas movies, but I am not ready! Even the calendar says it's fall for weeks yet! I protest, I drag my feet and I can't wait for Charlie Brown Thanksgiving tonight! But I think part of why I love the fall is that it is the beginning of a very special time of year. A time when our family gets together, when I get out my grandmother's grocery store collected china from the 1960s for just that one night, its gold rimmed splendor gracing only the Thanksgiving table, and the next day I fill the hutch with her Spode...collected a few years later and entirely without coupons. And then I try to make everyone use them every day until New Years. I swear that it doesn't matter if they get broken because they should be used...but the looks they turn on me indicate they don't believe me.  Coming next is Black Friday...when I will go out and shop because my mother loves it. Did I mention the Christmas movies already on my TV?

But for all my foot dragging and protests, I'm as big a sucker for Christmas as anyone and if you check back with me next week, you'll find me covered in tinsel and making huge cookie trays for all the neighbors. Because the season of love and giving is irresistible in the end. With Christmas movies on TV and bellowing carols at the top of my lungs.

As we teeter on the brink of the holiday rush, I want to wish everyone in the US a Happy Thanksgiving, and to the rest of our lovely readers a special happy weekend. May your family and friends gather around the turkey, the tree, and every symbol that means warmth and love to you and yours. In a couple of days I'll be willing to let go of fall and embrace the winter holidays. I have a special holiday story releasing right after Thanksgiving to help me into the spirit.

Thanksgiving Menu - One new, One Old

Sharon Hamilton here.

I used to cook for 30-40 people every Thanksgiving. These days, our family is so scattered, we rarely do this, except for a big family gathering every 10 years or so. This year, we're going to my brother's house, but I'm making the turkey and the stuffing. I am also making Butternut Squash Soup, as soups are my specialty.

And then I was looking over some of my author friends' newsletters, and came up with a new cranberry sauce from Cat Johnson. I asked her permission to post it here. I finished making it today and boy is it yummy!!

So, from my household to yours, here are a couple of recipes that will enhance your Thanksgiving celebration. Love to all of you and may your families be safe, wherever they are. This will be the first time ever all 4 kids and their spouses, and all 6 grandkids will be here for Thanksgiving.

DRUNKEN CRANBERRY SAUCE

3# Fresh Cranberries (whole)
1 1/2 cups bourbon
1/2 cup orange juice
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Grated orange peel from one fresh medium orange

Rinse and pick through cranberries, discarding any berries that are split, soft or discolored.

Put cranberries into a medium bowl and cover with 1 1/2 cups bourbon and 1/2 cup of orange juice. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.

THE NEXT DAY...

Pour the marinated cranberries and all liquid into a medium saucepan and add all remaining ingredients.

Bring just to a slow boil, and then lower heat.

Simmer until mixture reduces and gels (about a half our), while stirring occasionally.

Cool and serve.

BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP

One large butternut squash
2 cups 1/2 and 1/2
1 cardboard carton Turkey Broth (large) or Vegetable Broth
1/2 cup butter
2 T flour
2 heavy shakes Nutmeg
2 heavy shakes Cinnamon
1/2 cup dry Sherry or Bourbon
(optional) large can peach or apricot halves
Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

Halve the butternut squash, remove seeds. Place on cookie sheet, baste with butter, lightly salt,  and bake @ 400 for 45 mins.

When cooked tender (should be like mashed potatoes), remove the yellow meat, place into blender. Discard rind.

Add Turkey or Vegetable broth, 1/2 and 1/2, flour and optional peaches or apricots, blend until smooth and creamy. Sometimes you have to split the liquid and the squash ingredients into 1/2 if your blender is small. Idea is to have a fully blended soup mix after blending. No lumps!

Return mixture to large soup pan, heat until begins to thicken, adding one cube butter. You can add more 1/2 and 1/2, or broth if you want it thinner. Add salt, shakes of Cinnamon and Nutmeg to taste, and dry Sherry or Bourbon.

Serve with drizzle or dollop of Creme Fraiche, garnish rosemary and cranberry. Sprinkle with Pink sea salt.

This soup can be made ahead of time and is actually better the second day!  Enjoy!
