The Writing Process – Werewolves of Manhattan Series with @ACKatt #PNR #RB4U

When I wrote the first Werewolves of Manhattan Book, His Omega, I had done a couple of SciFi novels (The Sarran Series) so I kind of knew how to create a different civilization. With Werewolves of Manhattan I was dealing with a different species and if I wanted to take them out of the woods and into the city, I had to put them one of the best known cities in the world, a city I knew very well—New York and the ritziest part of New York City is Manhattan.
There are several reasons I took my Werewolves out of the woods. first of all, I’m not familiar with the woods as I’ve always lived in the city or the suburbs and would make all sorts of horrible misrepresentations no matter how much I researched and secondly I knew that yet another Werewolf Series had to have a hook, something different.
I reasoned that in the current day, wolves couldn’t settle all of their fights in pits, too many missing persons and the government would start to investigate. So, pit fights would have to be the absolute last resort and supervised by a governing body and that’s how the loup garou (French name for werewolves) were born. I did take a small liberty in the first book about Count Guy LaMarche. Guy didn’t hide his son in the mountains, Guy died without issue. But I was attracted to Guy as my base legend because he could have had a secret son, a son not by his wife, and he could have entrusted his people to his son to get them out of France at the time they were burning werewolves.
Now I’m got them in the new world from France to Canada; but I know nothing about Quebec, the province or the city, so they may start out there but they have to branch out to cover all of the continent. The council moved down from Quebec in the mid-seventeen-hundreds because they liked the idea of elected government with no monarchy and settled in New York and established Garou Industries.
Garou Industries was my way of putting the council for all of the territories in one place, outside their own territories. Someone had to run the company which benefited all of the werewolves. Thus the board of Garou Industries and the governing council would be the same.
Taking the loup garou out of the woods also gives them a level of sophistication that isn’t present in other shapeshifter novels. Now since I write only gay romance I had to make them gay. I established that you or born, Alpha, Beta, Pack or Omega. In my books the Omegas would be respected because they brought the pack gifts. But in order for it to work all of the Alphas and most of the Betas had to be gay and searching for their one true mate. Why gay, you ask? Because as Alphas, picking out new Alphas would be especially difficult if you had to choose between your slightly less qualified son and another wolf. I made them all gay and they had only girls thus eliminating the chance of discrimination. The child would be carried by the Alpha Bitch of the pack as custom dictated and even her mate was aware of the honor bestowed on her for carrying the Alpha and Alpha Mate’s girls.
I finally set up my world and its rules.
My latest novel, Marking Kane takes place in this world. The worst thing you can do to an Alpha is to molest his mate. Kane is molested by five young men because he, as their English teacher, refused to automatically pass two of the team because they were basketball stars. The Alpha in this book comes across Kane, bleeding in an alley. Kane is fully human and couldn’t defend himself against five other athletic boys. Here is the blurb:

Gabriel Martin has hope. Three of the Alphas on the council have found mates in the past year and a half. Returning to New York from Atlanta, he comes across a human who has been raped in an alleyway. The human is his mate, Kane Brady.

Kane has been teaching at the local high school and refuses to rubberstamp the education of their star basketball players—almost paying the price with his life. He’s unusual as he’s a Human Omega but he can’t be intimate with Gabriel because of his horrific experience.

It’s up to the Alphas and their Mates to help Kane recover and accept all that it is to be with Gabriel. Marking Kane will be released by MLR Press at  http://www.mlrpress.com.

~Author Bio~
AC Katt was born in New York City's Greenwich Village. €She remembers sitting at the fountain in Washington Square Park listening to folk music while they passed the hat. At nine, her parents dragged her to New Jersey where she grew up, married and raised four children and became a voracious reader of romantic fiction. €At one time she owned over two thousand novels until she and her husband took themselves and the cat to New Mexico for their health and its great beauty.

Now, most of AC's books are electronic (although she still keeps six bookcases of hardcovers), so she never has to give away another book.

She hangs out at ACKatt.com; or ackattsjournal.com. She is a very opinionated kitty and at ackatt.com where you may find snippets of her current releases, as well as some from works in progress. She also puts out a Newsletter once a month. You can sign up at ackatt@ackatt.com.

I like how you thought everything out. What a wonderful sounding series. I can just imagine how some entitled children of today might think that about grades and set out to hurt the one responsible. I've seen it happen too often as a teacher. All the best!

Sounds like you have created a great world for your wolves AC. Do you create a "series" bible of sorts, to keep all your series information in order? I like all the covers alot too, very appealing !
