Everyone talks about June weddings. How about Christmas holiday season weddings?
We'll be celebrating our 45th anniversary on 27 December...yes, two days after Christmas. We dated, got engaged, and married withing 6 months. Sometimes, you just KNOW who your soul mate should be and go for it, despite questions of "Are you sure? You haven't known each other very long."
The first time I danced with my husband and we talked, I said to myself, "This is someone I could bring home to meet my mother." Funny thought...but I felt so at ease with him and knew my family would approve.
I think about those couples who've lived together for years, get married...and then split up. Have relatives and friends who fit into this category. Did they really understand each other?
We had actually planned a June wedding, but my roommate at the time told me in November 1970 that she was moving out in December (to follow her married lover to Hawaii...yes, she was an idiot). I couldn't afford rent by myself, doubted if I could find a roommate for 6 months, and we didn't want to live together until June. (Keep in mind, this was 1970 and my parents would have disapproved, even though I lived 10 hours from home).
So, we planned a December wedding, and actually getting married so close to Christmas worked in our favor. The reception hall and church had all the flowers/decorations we needed. Everything was organized very quickly. We even had some snowflakes that day...you can see the specks in the photo!
We got married, and I'd do it all again!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Everyone!
