Absolutely.... Life has a Way of Changing.....
Hello and welcome to Romance Books 4 Us. Normally Nicole stops by to kick off the month and have you all smiling. Today, you get me, Melissa Keir, talking about life changing. It was a perfect time to speak about change with the beginning of a new month- September which seems to kick off fall in my area of the world.
I love this ring, if anyone is looking for a gift for me! |
This month our theme is Absolutely.... The birthstone, Sapphire
(promoter of chaste love, health, peace of mind and psychic vision) and flower, Aster
(talisman of love, patience).
This is me when faced with change! |
Usually at this time of year, I'm back in my classroom
trying to set it up for any number of students, sitting in on professional development meant to energize me, and worrying about how the year is going to go. But not this year!
This year, I'm worried about insurance and spending too much money. A much different set of stress brought on because of a life change I made. I quit teaching at the school I had taught at for the last 15 years. It was time. I had asked to work part time but they couldn't accommodate me. I've looked for other jobs as a teacher. However, I have two strikes against me-- 20 years teaching experience and a Master's Degree. (The Union says that they have to pay me more and other teachers are cheaper.)
My father, my son and me at Thanksgiving |
So.. Absolutely... life changes...(and it will probably always cause me some stress, okay a lot of stress)...
But I'm taking a bold move. Substitute teaching so I can get my teaching fix, working on upcoming novellas, and still have the time to see the faces who I would terribly miss if they weren't here.
What is your ABSOLUTE? What about life has changed for you?? And how are you handling it? I'd love to hear!
And Nicole will be by on the 9th to visit with you. However, if you want to read about some musings on life, poetry and recipes from me about the people I love, please check out my new short book titled: Musings of a Madcap Mind.

Glad to hear you are absolutely happy. Change can be scary. The new book sounds great! Best luck. :)
Hope you find the teaching job of your dreams, Melissa. Tough job market. Tough economy. Sad to hear that a Masters is a liability rather than a plus. What a world.
Melissa, good for you to embrace change absolutely! Best of luck.
If we don't embrace change, it will harm us...I absolutely believe that. Life is too short to worry about things. This past month, I've watched two wonderful women pass on way too early. If there's a teaching job to be had, Tina, I'll get it. But I don't know that it will work out that way. Yes, you would think that you want the most experienced person teaching children but that's not how unions see it- Remember that's how they build cars, too!
Change is the one thing you can't get around and it's so much more fun to laugh than cry. Thanks Rose and Cara.
I wish you the very best, Melissa on the change in your life. I actually call it another chapter in your life. My new chapter was when I decided to retire. Staying positive that things will work itself out is a good way to start out. Just think of all the things you can do now that you didn't have time to do before.
Change is terrifying! But this is going to be a good one for you! All the best, friend.
Change is always frightening. But sometimes we need that kick in the pants. I'm doing it. And I have some wonderful friends by my side! :)
Judy- do you still get sad at the first part of September longing for the classroom??
Good for you, Melissa..I'm positive you'll be glad you made this change. I had a successful career going in real estate and just up and walked out one day. My manager couldn't believe it but it was the best thing I'd done in a long while. Again, good for you!!!
That is a Huge change, Melissa. I admire your courage and wish you the best in all your new ventures.
Hi, Melissa! A new life adventure is a good thing. My friend retired at 20 years and what does she do, substitute. She loves it and I have a good feeling it will be best for you. Many hugs, girl.
Congratulations on realizing what was important. Sometimes we don't see that for ourselves. And change is never easy, but you have the best attitude there is. Good for you. I wish you all the best in the future.
As a teacher, change happens multiple times within each nanosecond of your 24 hour day. You have all the skills to circumnavigate anything that's thrown your way. So run with it, Melissa. Smile and soak in every second you have with your family. Everything works out in the end. You're simply too awesome for it not to! Hugs :)
Thank you for all the compliments and encouragement. It's what I love about this group. It is a family and we do care for each other. I've learned to roll with changes. Life isn't easy but each day we wake up is a win in my book!
Thank you all again!
Wow, Melissa, a huge decision for you! I bet your family will be happy to have you near again. I think that's a common problem for women, we overextend ourselves and sometimes its the ones we love the most who suffer in the process.
I recently made a life change also. My daughter and grandson moved over twelve hundred miles away so that she could attend university. She needed help for the first while because finding a daycare you can trust in a strange city is scary stuff. DH brought me out in our RV and a few months turned into three years! We sold our restaurant, he looked for work nearby (which didn't happen for nearly two years so he had to travel back and forth), sold our house, and here we are!
At first I wasn't sure we'd made the right decision, but now I'm grateful. Earlier this year my grandson was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes, imagine if my daughter had no one to support her through this crisis!
I've always believed things happen for a reason, and this just confirms it.
Best of luck Melissa and enjoy your future!

Boy sometimes change can be so hard...for me it's how much my kids change from year to year. So glad you were able to make those changes in your life and sure am excited to hear how you'll like the substitute teaching :)
Omgosh Jacquie what a wonderful mom you are! I can only imagine how grateful your daughter is to have you!
Krista-children are so important and you have been blessed by such an absolutely fabulous relationship with them!
