This month we were given a choice of topics
(Dear Diary, or Birthstone and Flower for the month of August)
While the birthstone of August, a Peridot, is actually my own,
I think Dear Diary has struck an interest.

Dear Diary...
Age 8: I don't think i could ever like a boy, they have cooties and are mean...my mom keeps telling me the boys that are mean to me like me but why would i like some gross boy that pulls my hair and follows me everywhere on the playground?
Age 11: Sherry, if you are reading this, STAY OUT OF MY DIARY OR I'M TELLING MOM!
Age 13: The most fabulous boy in my school looked at me today and i thought I was going to throw up... Dear Diary, what should i do?
Age 15: I don't think i'll ever eat another thing. My best friend told me today that i was fat, in front of the whole lunch room! Can you believe it? How will i ever be able to face my friends tomorrow at school. Maybe my parents will move us out of the country instead? It could happen...right?
Age 17: Dear Diary, please, please please help me! Greg just has to ask me to prom or i swear I won't go. But if he does ask me, i think i'll scream. Oh my gosh, if he asks, what should i wear? Are we supposed to match? Will my dad even let me ride in the same car? My mom and dad are NOT driving me to the prom. How embarrassing...

I can't say that I actually ever kept a diary where I would write my deepest secrets or disappointments and wishes when I was younger. If i had, it might have looked something like the excerpt above.
However, now that I have kids myself and even though I never did, I find myself encouraging my kids to write down their thoughts, good or bad. I can only imagine how similar to the above my kids diaries might be. I try to stay away and let that be the one thing they can keep to themselves.
I think it's a great way to work through their frustrations with school or their siblings or even mom :) Of course, sometimes they think i'm nuts but that's ok. I'm sure I've had a few pages in their diaries dedicated to this mean old mom!

So, did any of you write diaries when you were younger?
Do you keep a diary now?
Do you keep a diary now?
I've actually thought about it once or twice but at this point in my life, when my kids give me time to think that is... my stories are consuming my thoughts so much that the diary idea has turned itself into a journal of sorts for all my story ideas. I would like to say though that after thinking of and writing about keeping a diary, it's given me an idea for a story line :)

Born and raised in Northern Indiana, Krista now
resides in Northern Lower Michigan. She is married to a very supportive
man who allows her to follow her true passion of writing and never complains
when she is pirated away on her computer for hours. He is excellent at
bouncing ideas around with and even helps the occasional writers block.
He’s also a terrific “in house” editor. Krista is also a mother of 4
ornery children who keep her plenty busy. With an addition of 2 beautiful
chocolate lab sisters and 2 rambunctious cats, there is never a dull or spare
moment in her household.
Krista has always loved to read and would often sit up for hours into the night not able to put down a book until she was finished. She still reads when she can but her main focus is creating her own stories to share with the world.
She loves to communicate with her readers so please feel free to drop her a line anytime.

Welcome, Krista. This is a great first post. I kept a diary for a short while when I was a teen, but I lost interest. I wrote poetry instead to express my feelings.
Hello Krista *waves* Good to see you here. :) I did have a diary for a bit but with five girls in my family, keeping anything private was...impossible! "Mom, Michelle's touching my desk." "Mom!! Marilyn's playing with my lipstick!" "Mom!! Make Monica get out of my room!" You can guess how loud it was at my house!
Welcome to the RB4U family!! "Mom!! Krista's here!"
Thanks so much Cara! Poetry sounds like a good expressive outlet! I'm not sure I have the skill for poetry :)
Hi Melissa! So excited to be here! Oh geesh, I can only imagine with 5 girls. I only had 2 sisters and that was bad enough. I see the no privacy thing going on with my 3 girls and 1 boy now.
Thanks for the warm welcome! *hugs*
How nice to get to know you..welcome to this great group. I did keep a dairy when younger, but think I've now discarded it. I remember last time I read it I found it pretty dull. That was about my 13th year and I guess there wasn't much to write about.
Wonder first post, Krista. I did keep a diary as a kid and I journal now. I do wish I was more consistent at it though. Not sure why I do it other than I love the feel of pen and paper. Handwriting things out is soothing for me.
Nice to have your here as our newest RB4U Member Author!
I never kept a diary as a child...starting writing a journal as an adult for a short time.
Congratulations bestie!!! Great post. I kept a diary and still do, sort of. My brother never peaked at mine because he was just weird and didn't care.
He was more interested in listening to my phone conversations. LOL!
