Remember the stigma readers faced with the so-called bodice
rippers. Well, now there is embarrassment
for those who read erotic books, so it could be readers feel safer reading them
on an e-reader. Writers often use a fictitious
name to write them because of the stigma.
Sex is a part of life, so it's hard for me to understand why
there is still this stigmatism around the subject. As to whether there is more sex in e-books
than prints I don't know, but it is an interesting question.
What do you think?

Don't know. But it is an interesting question. :)
Hmm, Great Question.
Now if you asked this question a few years ago when e-rom was still hidden in paper bags and only enjoyed behind false covers I would have said a definite no. Today I think e-rom has come out of it's stigma closet and wether you love them or hate them it's mainly because of Fifty Shades of Grey, those books made such an impact that e-rom is the new black. I still think you'll find more e-pub e-rom than traditional houses but it's making it's way to the brick and mortar establishments too.
Thanks, Tina.
Thanks for your comment, Debbie.
It is a great question. I know that I was embarrassed with reading the bodice rippers but finally gave up on what people think.
I think that's why I don't use a pen name for my own sexy stories. Love me or leave me... I guess.
Yay, Melissa! I feel the same way. I shocked a few of my old friends when my sex scenes. One woman said, I was surprised you wrote about sex. lol
And here I was thinking that print books are far more liberal and liberally dosed with erotic sex than they were a few years ago. They've given e-rom a run for their money!
Interesting question. I've been reading romance since before people started hiding them behind vinyl book jackets. I had one but it was red and mainly to keep the cover from being ripped off, lol!
I'm glad people have stopped apologizing for enjoying a good romance, no matter how sexy its deemed. Personally, the print novels have gotten hotter as more erotic authors are picked up by print pubs but I look at that as a good thing:)
I do use a pen name for my erotic romances only because I intend to publish paranormal romances under my own name. Hopefully, my first Cindy Tady novel will be out early next year.
There's been sex in books since I was a child. Sex in movies since the seventies or earlier. Sexy girls and sexy guys selling everything from tooth past to cars. I don't understand the stigma either, but somehow sex equals something dirty.
I write sex scenes because I'm writing for adults. Adults have sex when they're in loving a relationship and I'm writing about loving relationships.
Janice~
It's a great question. And much as I hate to say it, the Fifty Shades trilogy brought sex out of the closet so to speak. It's amazing how some people are so uncomfortable about sex but not about violence.
Polly, I think there is more sex in print books than there used to be.
Thanks for your insights, Paris. Good luck with your paranormal.
Janice, I'm giving away my age, but in the 50's there wasn't any sex on television. lol I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Cara, I think sex was out of the closet long before Fifty Shades of Gray. lol
I agree with you about people not being uncomfortable with violence. It's a shame that people are becoming desensitized to crimes. It's going to have a horrible effect on our society in the future.
