Stop the ‘manscaping’! There, I said it.
I like a freshly-showered and cologne-scented man as
much as the next woman. A guy who takes good care of his teeth, trims his nails,
and gets regular haircuts probably takes care of his overall health. Men who
exercise, eat wholesome foods, and dress in clean clothes look far more
attractive than out-of-shape men in stained tee shirts who think French fries
are a vegetable choice.
However, unless he’s a professional swimmer, I don’t
want my man to wax his legs. Or his chest. Or, God forbid, his nether regions. Who decided that proper sexual etiquette required
hairless testicles, anyway? I want a man who looks and feels like a man.
I don’t want to sit next to a guy at the salon when I’m getting a pedicure. While I do think more people should pay attention to foot
care, let men get their nails clipped and buffed at the barber shop, where real
men go for grooming. I don’t want my man wearing colorless nail polish and
chatting about his favorite TV shows with my manicurist while she softens his
cuticles.
If you ask me, manscaping has gone awry. I don’t
want my man plucked, waxed, and artificially polished. Unless he’s covering a
blemish with my cover stick, I don’t want him wearing make-up or borrowing my hoop earrings. A shower, shave, and deodorant suit me fine. I like a man
who looks like the guy in the above photo from eyecandy.com. Neat, but masculine.
The feminization of men in our society has gone
amok. It’s time for women to say, enough.
I’ll take my man with hair, please.

AMEN!!! Really, the whole feminization thing is a total turnoff for me.
I totally agree. I want a man, not a boy! Keep the metro-sexuals and give me a man whose 5 o'clock shadow I can feel when he kisses me.
Thanks for saying it for us. :)
Lord, I agree with you totally. Are men actually shaving their legs and pits? Yuck. I don't want a guy who looks like an ape; however, I don't want a guy who looks like a 12 year old boy, or as soft as a girl, either.
Here, Here!!!!!
There is nothing sexier to this adult romance lover than a man who's got hair on his chest that I can vicariously though the heroine run my hands through, leading down that to that incredible v that takes me to paradise
me too! I mean, for a man love book, maybe you could have a dude who likes his boys waxed but even then .... I like 'em looking like men too!
fun post...sharing on my networks!
Amen! Manscaping has gone a little too far - wax the back if necessary, but for the most part, leave things alone.
AMEN!!! I told my best male friend last week how happy I was to see his chest hair again. His response? "I need to trim it again."
I smacked him and told him 'NO!'
Savannah, Mary, Tina, Debbie--
So glad to know other women agree with me. Thanks for your comments.
This summer, when hubby and I took our beach vacation, I noticed many men with waxed legs like their wives. These were mature men, which surprised me. Clearly, leg waxing had to be something new for them. All I could think was WHY? To me, these men looked odd.
I have a middle-aged friend who recently started dating a mature man and she insisted he remove the hair around his genitals. WHY? A little trimming might be in order, but waxing? Yikes!

Liz-- Thanks for sharing my column on your networks! I appreciate your comment too.
Lisa-- I have to admit that back hair is a turnoff for me, but I love a man with a hairy chest. Remember Tom Selleck in Magnum, P.I.? A total hunk.(Although short shorts today seem funny to us.) Thanks for commenting.
Molly-- Three cheers for you! Where is all this pressure coming from? Thanks for stopping by.

RIGHT ON!!!!! There's a great country song--I'm Just a Guy--you'd love. I also feel for men today who are afraid to be guys. Maybe we should start a club or page for real guys. Meredith
Yes!! I heartily agree.
A waxed man is a big disappointment to me. I love chest hair.
Also, what's with the make-up guys? I'll look the other way for eye gel but not heavily pigmented BB creme.
Ms Spencer--I like that song too. It's by Brad Paisley, a real man. ") I like your idea about a page for real men.
Cara--I bet your man doesn't wax his chest! Thanks for stopping by.
Kat--I love chest hair too. I don't mind a guy trimming the hair a little, but if it's too short, it becomes scratchy. Ouch! I want to run my hands over his chest and enjoy that sensual downy feel. Mmmm.
Thanks for posting!

I don't like a hairy guy, and truthfully, more than a little chest hair and small trail of hair tracking into his shorts is a turn-off for me. However, I don't want to compete for a salon chair with them, either. For goodness sake, no waxed legs, no hair dyes, and no manicures! I also like a guy who gets his muscle tone from playing hard and working hard... not from spending his days in the gym and taking steroids. Just saying...
Amen, Adele. And some of them should dress more guy-like.
I couldn't have said it better myself. When did a hairless man get sexy? There's nothing sexier than following a man's chest hair when it disappears into his jeans. I say enough is enough!! Great post.
I totally agree, Adele. I think this all started with competitions. I wish some of our model members would chime in. I'm sure they have some opinions.
Bon Sue--I had to smile at your 'not compete for a salon chair' with men. You said it all well and I agree. Thanks for posting!
Vicki--I saw a few guys in short shorts at the beach this summer. Hello, the 80's are calling: they want their shorts back! Lol. Thanks for stopping by!
Marie Rose--Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed my post. I agree with you too.

Sandy--I heard recently that the porn industry has a lot to do with the hairless trend for both men and women. I don't know if that's true, but it sounds logical.
Thanks for commenting!

Great post!I'm a sucker for a five o'clock shadow, rough around the edges hero. And the only thing he should be shaving is his head:)
Paris-- I like hair on the head and a close-shaven face. Lol. I love your description of a 'rough around the edges hero'. I like guys like that too.
Thanks for commenting!

LOL! I was married to a furball for 20 years, and got so tired of using the cat brush on my sheets I could scream! There is body hair...and then there is Sasquatch.
Unfortunately my grandson inherited the Sasquatch gene. He uses a trimmer to shorten the thick patches of curly hair that riot all over his body. He used to get embarrassed when he would go swimming because girls would turn to stare, then giggle to each other. There is a time and a place for manscaping... :)
