The Test of Time

I was taking a break the other day and ended up watching a couple of old Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns. I loved the show and never missed the feisty, kick-ass young heroine as she secretly fought to keep the world safe from vampires and demons and occasionally even the people who considered themselves the good guys. I'm not really surprised that it's survived the test of time.

There was so much about that show that was appealing that I didn't mind the teen-age angst that usually affects me like nails scraping across a chalkboard. Talented writing kept the dialogue snappy and the characters connected in a way that made me care. I know, I know--that's the secret but for me it was also the attitude.

I like seeing a strong heroine. It doesn't mean she wasn't upset that she was too busy killing vampires and trying to save the world to make it to her high-school prom but the girl had priorities. Of course, finding a dress that allowed her to hide a wooden stake might have been problematic but Buffy didn't whine, she was a problem solver. The show was fun, entertaining and above all, at least for me, memorable. I even liked the musical episode and that's usually another nails-scraping-across-a-chalkboard moment for me.

What about you? Do you have a favorite television show or movie that's stood the test of time?

Hope you're staying cool wherever you are and until next month,

Happy Reading,

Paris

I love House and Grey's Anatomy. Can watch those shows again and again. Also love Law and Order SUV. It's great seeing how much Olivia and El have changed over the years in that one. :)

My all time favorite is NCIS. I never get tired of it, and I have been known to watch the re-runs.

Love, love love the movie Somewhere in Time. No TV shows as of now turn me on. Guess that dates me somehow...

Jean,
I think Somewhere In Time must be one of the most romantic movies ever! The only shows I watch these days are Castle and the Sci-Fi channels Haven, Warehouse 13 and Alphas. I love the "woo woo" factor:)

I think I'm the only romance author in the country who's never seen an episode of Buffy. I've also never watched American Idol. But I am a TV junkie. I have several shows I never miss. The shows I think of when you ask which shows withstand the test of time for are MASH and Seinfeld. I could watch the same episodes over and over.

LOL, I've never seen American Idol before either but I adored MASH! As for Buffy, I don't know if it was because I had teenagers at the time but it was a show we all enjoyed. If you get a chance, check out the DVD's:)
