Talking #Thanksgiving with @chrisfoxlorenz #Romance #Holiday

Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, I’ll wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving today. It’s one of my favorite holidays – probably because I don’t have all that preparation, stress and cooking. For the last several years, my family has enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at a local catering hall complete with food, desert, Christmas decorations, games and a visit from Santa. So, without all that time consuming work and family chaos, what better way to spend the beginning of the holiday season than reading Christmas books?

Since late October I’ve been scouring my local Barnes & Noble for Christmas books. Since I subscribe to many author newsletters and updates through Amazon, I usually keep a running list of my favorite authors Christmas releases. I also jot down any Christmas books that friends recommend or that pop up in my Facebook feed and look intriguing. I don’t know about you, but I’ll confess that if a cover grabs my eye most likely I’ll pick it up. And if the blurb sounds appealing that usually seals the deal. So picture me walking ever so carefully to the register, a tower of books balanced precariously in my hands. As of today I have about two dozen Christmas books piled on my night stand calling to me. Picking out the books is the easy part – deciding which one to start reading first is the hard part.

Can you just see my OCD kicking in? Yes, it takes some time for me to decide which book will be the first of the season. And after I choose the first book I put the rest in the order that I will read each one. Sometimes it’s the cover that helps me decide; sometimes it’s the back blurb. But after much thought, picking up and putting down, I stack them up in the final order and the reading begins!

Since I’m usually busy writing or editing during the day, my reading time has to wait until the late evening, when my work is done and the family has been fed (if I don’t feed them they won’t leave me alone to read lol). I’ve become quite the expert at reading in bed into the wee hours. I’ve acquired just the right pillows for propping up without a neck or back ache. I’ve got a bed tray where I can keep a cup of tea for late night sipping. And I collect reading lights like some women probably collect lipstick. If there’s a science to reading in bed, I think I’ve made some good discoveries.

So tomorrow night, after everyone is stuffed with Turkey, potatoes and pie, and the football game blares from living rooms across the country, you will not find me in the kitchen with a scrubbing pad and soapy arms. Nope, this girl will be climbing into her bed, a hot cup of tea on a wooden tray and a stack of Christmas books spread across the comforter. I don’t know what makes my heart flutter more – those beautiful covers or the heart stopping romances between them.

Snow Globe Reunion
