Interview: Erotic Romance Author Cris Anson #RB4U

REDEMPTION AND GLORY
Bored with all the groupies who provide him with anonymous sex, famous sculptor Adam accepts the offer to lurk behind a voyeur screen at his agent’s BDSM club. Watching the magnificent Mistress Glory in action, Adam is so smitten that he can’t decide if he wants to tame her or kneel before her.
When Davinia helps her business partner at a book signing, the man of her wet dreams—a magazine’s “Most Eligible Bachelor”—comes by to help publicize the event. Instant lust turns to chagrin when he addresses her as Mistress Glory.
As the two novices to Dominance and submission explore what turns them on in this exciting new world, the journey takes explosive twists and turns. Add the sexy agent Jonathan and his slave, and anything can—and does—happen.

EXCERPT:
A sensation somewhere along the continuum between smooth strokes and fingernail scratches crawled across the back of her neck. She hadn’t even been aware of the hand pulling her head forward, her hair to one side, but now she shivered as the feeling moved up and down one arm, across her silk blouse and over the curves of her upper breasts. She looked down to see Jonathan wielding a gadget the length of a dinner fork, at the end of which was a small, spiked wheel.
“How does that feel?” he murmured.
“Tingly.”
“More?”
“Please. What is it?”
The sensation intensified, as if more pressure was being applied by whatever instrument was causing mini-explosions in its wake. “Wartenberg wheel.”
Vaguely she remembered seeing one of the implements that doctors used to test patient reflexes and asking its name. It felt exquisitely decadent as Jonathan rolled it with increasing pressure over her silk-clad breasts, down her belly and around her hips.
A large hand grabbed a fistful of her hair, arching her neck to one side. Vinnie’s gaze lifted to—Adam! He nuzzled her temple, kissed the tip of her nose, stroked her cheek with a knuckle, all the while pressing his humongous erection into her hip.
Vinnie sighed. This she could understand. The illicit thrill of being aroused without being able to respond. The blatantly sexual kick of the wheel skirting her nipples while roaming at will over her body. Of Adam kissing and teasing her. Of Jonathan’s low, soft voice promising obscene sexual actions ostensibly to his sub but reaching Vinnie’s ears and, yes, her pussy as well.
“Adam,” said Jonathan in that same low, seductive voice, “unbutton Davinia’s top. She needs to feel the wheel on skin, not through some heavy piece of fabric.”
Still fisting her curls in his grip, Adam managed one-handed to open the garment, revealing an underwire bra of almost sheer ecru lace. The gasp he was unable to hide went straight to her pussy. She hoped he wouldn’t be directed to remove her slacks, or he’d encounter an extremely wet thong.
Adam worked the blouse halfway off her shoulders, pulled the tails out from under rope and waistband, and tucked the material as far back as he could manage.
Then—yes!—he pasted his hard cock against her again, rubbing it up and down her hip while his teeth grazed the exposed column of her throat. Jonathan played the wheel over her nipples, which had hardened almost unbearably. Between them they were driving her crazy. She felt her hips begin to undulate in response.
“Davinia!” Jonathan’s voice snapped. “Stop twitching. Do. Not. Move.”
She took a deep breath and steadied herself. Remember. Right now you’re a sub.
“Now the trousers.”
Oh god.

Cris feels you're never too old to give or receive love (and shows it in AARON’S JEWEL, where both hero and heroine are over fifty). As well, this Sexy Senior conducts her personal research into the BDSM lifestyle with great zest.

1.        How did you celebrate publishing your first book?
My husband, who was bedridden for many years, lived to see my first two erotic novels published (both in 2005). He had been my biggest cheerleader through my many years of struggling. I celebrated by printing out the first acceptance letter so he could read it for himself and we both shed a few happy tears on the occasion.
2.        Your novel is being made into a TV series/movie. Who’s in your dream cast?
REDEMPTION AND GLORY (a finalist in the BDSM Advanced category of the 2015 Golden Flogger Awards) features a cocky sculptor who is a womanizer and the darling of the art world. Matthew McConaughey was my muse as I was writing this book and he’d be perfect as Adam. For the auburn-haired heroine, Jessica Chastain from today’s stars, but truly I’d have loved to have Susan Hayward as the fiery Davinia.
3.        How much of yourself is hidden in the characters in the book?
Oh boy, lots and lots. When you’re writing something like BDSM, you can’t pull it out of your head and be true to the lifestyle. You have to do research. I know some successful authors do it by interviewing folks in the Community, but actually being there, seeing and doing things, is the way for me to go. I’ve been flogged, caned, single-tailed, violet-wanded, knife-played, tied down to a bench and handcuffed up to a ring in the ceiling. I’ve flogged naked male backs and used various spanking implements on naked male bottoms. I hope I have translated my experiences into scenes that come alive for the reader.
4.        Of all your characters, who’s your favorite, and why?
My all-time favorite hero is Magnus, from DANCE OF THE BUTTERFLY. He’s a stubborn, one-woman man who meets a woman he shouldn’t want, because she flits from man to man like a butterfly in a field of daisies. My favorite female would probably be Julia from AARON’S JEWEL because she’s the oldest of my heroines and she’s learning what she wants from BDSM, much like my own journey.
5.        If you could change something about your first book, what would it be?
Some readers have written to me that they wanted to know what the hero was thinking, but while I was writing DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS, every time I tried to write a scene from Robert’s point of view, it just didn’t work. If I had to do it again, I might try harder. But maybe not, because it’s still, after ten years, one of my best-selling titles.
6.        How do you choose names for your characters?
With great difficulty. I have several character-naming books and I browse the online lists. I try not to have them start with the same letter, or sound similar in any way; one should be shorter than the other, etc. I’ve changed my characters’ names several times during the writing of many a book. Sometimes I choose their ethnicity and work with the surname first. It’s very complicated and causes me much angst.
7.        If you could give a younger version of yourself advice, what would it be?
Don’t think you know it all when you’ve finished your first draft of your first novel. I shudder to think of my first few books (which aren’t even good enough to try to revise) when I thought they were ready for an editor’s hands. Take advantage of all the knowledge available these days, either on the Internet or at writers’ conferences or in critique groups. If several sources give you the same comments, maybe you should change the way you’re doing or saying things.
8.        Have you ever used an incident from your real life into one of your books?
Many, many times. I actually dedicated NO PATIENCE to the man I met online who tried to push me too far too fast after we met in person: This could have been us if you hadn’t lived up to your screen name. I appreciate the inspiration. In WHAT SHE NEEDS, I gave the heroine a black eye the day before she left for a writers’ conference; that actually happened to me. And, of course, all my up-close-and-personal research appears sooner or later.
9.        Any part of a book that drives you crazy as you write: beginning, middle, or end?
Sagging middle, no contest. I usually know how the characters meet and how I want it to end. It’s getting there that makes me tear my hair out. Sometimes it’s so frightening I actually get writer’s block and don’t want to start writing unless I know more about where the story is going.
10.    Out of your entire backlist, which book has the best opening line? What's the line?
I love the one from DANCE OF THE SEVEN VEILS: “…and remember, if you see a naked man handcuffed to a ring in the ceiling, it’s because he wants to be there.”  My publisher also gave it a prize for being the best opening line in their books from that year.
Fun Stuff:
  1. What is your favorite holiday and why?
For most of my life it’s been Christmas, the time when family got together and all was right with the world. I loved the looks on their faces when they opened up the perfect present chosen just for them. Now that most of my family is gone, it’s not the same, but I keep the memories alive as best I can.
      2.   What are two things people might be surprised to know about you?
I keep a supply of dollar bills in my car to hand out to people on street corners who carry a sign with a tale of woe.
I can’t stand the sight of needles; whenever I need labwork done, I turn my head, close my eyes, and warn the tech I might faint.
      3.   As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An adult. I wanted to do what my older sister did (have dates with boys, but not vacuum the living room). Now, I want to be Joey W. Hill when I grow up *grin*.
      4.   Favorite food.
Chocolate. Oh, you mean something substantial? Almost anything seafood. Well, maybe not sashimi (raw).
      5.   Favorite happy memory.
The night my first husband asked me to marry him, we were at an upscale restaurant. We spent about three hours there; much of that time we just stared into each other’s eyes and the waitress didn’t bother us. (Alas, he died after we were married only twelve years.)
      6.   Favorite drink.
Ice water with a wedge of lemon. Honest. I don’t like fizzy stuff and I seldom indulge in alcohol, even wine. Milk too, but only when I’m eating cake or pie (preferably chocolate).
      7.   Hot summer days or chilly winter nights?
Hot summer days, wearing as little as possible.
      8.   What is the top thing on your bucket list?
Sleep on the floor of the Grand Canyon. Preferably with someone I love.
      9.   If you could have a super power, what would it be?
That any weapon aimed at another in anger should malfunction.

Cris,
I love that you put so much of your research and yourself into your stories. You have always been my go to person for BDSM culture and first introduced me to the work of Dr. Charley. You should let her do fireplay on you. I've found a passion for it.

I love ice water with lemon too. It's the best and most refreshing drink. I wish you all the best with your books and please keep sharing the lifestyle.

Sexy senior is right! You're never too old for sex...age is in the mind.
Interesting how you do research. Lots of "your own experiences" in your writing...good for you, naughty lady!

I'm not very good at pain...hot wax and fire are out. Bondage can be exciting, but trust has to be strong. I enjoy reading about BDSM...just can't get mind ind into it being done to ME. LOL!

It's great to see how your work has evolved over time, but the constant has always been the passion you've been able to impart to your characters. My goal is to be able to write as well as you! Can't wait to see what comes next! It's great to see you enjoying the journey.

Didn't know sculptors had groupies btw, apparently I'm in the wrong profession...like this bit of advice "If several sources give you the same comments, maybe you should change the way you’re doing or saying things."...yeah, I've told people the same thing...if one person says something, take note but don't necessarily change anything...if several people say the same thing though, there's probably a real issue...
