Romantic Seasonal Weddings

When my best friend got married on 21 December, I remember thinking how festive everything was, especially with all the holiday colors, decorations, and flowers. As Maid of Honor, I held a special spot in the wedding party; what joy it added to that Christmas over 45 years ago.

When I got married two years later on 27 December, the same wonderful, seasonal feeling made our wedding festive. My best friend was my Matron on Honor; she, my bridesmaids, and I all held muffs with flowers attached. The church had lots of Christmas plants to brighten the altar area. It snowed, and my husband and I walked through snowflakes to get to the car after our church service (see photo - those spots are snowflakes). The hall was decorated with holiday decorations.

Were we crazy to get married in December? No. We loved the season and our wedding just made us enjoy time spent with family and friends more joyous. Yes, it was cold. But that time of year can be so beautiful!

June weddings are fine; I originally had thought about getting married in June. When plans changed since my then fiance had a military move to make...and I would go with him...we moved up our wedding plans. We settled on December, and never regretted that change.

Every wedding is filled with romantic thoughts; our December wedding will always hold images of holiday scenes, fun, celebration, family, friends, and love.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to YOU!

Love the photo, Marianne - doesn't matter when you get married - it's more important who you marry. :)

Marianne, what a beautiful post and a beautiful wedding picture. I love Christmas weddings. A cousin got married on New Year's Eve which I thought was a great idea. Gave everyone somewhere fun to go NYE. Happy Anniversary on the 27th.

Absolutely beautiful. A friend married in early December and it was military as well. Poinsettias, dark green bridesmaid dresses and the sword salute as they left the sanctuary. Awesome. Congratulations on your special day.

Great wedding photo - you were such a pretty bride. Muffs with flowers - haven't seen muffs in a million years.

What a beautiful wedding! I do love the way the churches light up during the holidays. I hadn't thought about marrying around the holidays but I can see why it would be special. Happy Anniversary!

Since Christmas is my favorite holiday, I agree, the month of December would make a beautiful weeding time. Enjoyed your post, Marianne.
