How many of you read your own books once they are published?

I do...

In fact, In the past few weeks, I have been re-reading a lot of my books...and oddly enough, I have enjoyed them tremendously. In fact, I find myself thinking, "Did I really write this book?" It just seems as if somebody else wrote them, because lately, I have not been producing diddly-squat. LOL!

Since I don't really do much promo on my guest blogs, unless it's about an upcoming new release, I figured that I would do a LOT of self promo today, to make up for any lack of trying. So here goes...

So that's it...my entire back list and new releases...that's my heavy promo for the next month.  LOL!  Just for curiosity's sake, I'm desperate to know if ANY of my prior promo caused anyone to pick up one of my books. Sometimes I wonder if doing promo on blogs actually tempts anyone to actually go check the books out.

Most of us authors don't have thousands of bucks to drop on paid advertisements in magazines, etc. At least, I don't...so I just pray that word of mouth will get some books out there.

Have many of you done the paid advertizing stuff...and if you have, have you noticed enough of an upswing in sales to make the cost of advertizing worth it?

Let me know...I will definitely try that if I win the lottery...

Hugs!

Hi Fran,

Promo? I don't wait for promo, you're an auto-buy for me. As for reading my own books, I usually wait for a bit before I read them, but yes, I do have a couple that are my favorites.

I read my own when enough time has passed to allow me to get past the urge to self-edit after the fact! What an impressive line-up you have Fran. Best luck.

Love, love, your covers. As for promo, I don't know anything that you can count on working. Seldom reread my own books, but when I do it's as if they were written by someone else....

Thanks so much, ladies! :)

Hi, Fran,

I have to read my novels over so many times in the editing stage that I won't read them again unless they are going into a new edition or they are part of a series like my romantic mystery Kim Reynolds series which will soon have book 4 coming out. In that case, I have to make certain past info agrees with present.

I do reread my books but after a period of time passes or if I'm working on a sequel.

What a great group of backlist and new releases! I love the covers. So hot!!

I don't about promo. I used to think that Blog Tours were great but they are falling flat. I also loved the blog hops, but it seems like unless you are offering a huge prize no one is interested. Most of the people who visit my blog are already authors, but also readers... I don't know how to reach just readers other than word of mouth.

Reading my own work: Yes, after several months have passed. And I put your books on my TBB list based on the chats I attended with you and the excerpts you posted either on this blog or your own:)

Man, are your covers ever hot. I think I recognized at least one of the models. Smile!

As for doing the promo, I did a bunch before Christmas, and I don't think it did much at all. I paid for the promotion tours, and I didn't make enough to cover the expense. Nope, promo doesn't help. I think readers groups on Facebook might be beneficial, not sure though.

I usually don't read them once published...unless I want to refresh my memory about character details - sometimes covers don't really look like the H/H, or they're not even on the cover/can't see their faces!
Nice long list of covers shows what a prolific author you are!
