Amateur Hour

Amateur Hour: That's what my husband call's Valentine's Day. In his eyes, a real romance doesn't need a special day for recognition. And even to my sappy romantic heart, he has a point.

Flowers, candy, jewelry--sure I love all those things. But he brings me flowers on random occasions throughout the year, so that's not a Valentine thing. He slips a bag of chocolate into the grocery cart whenever he knows I'm down. So no Valentine there, either. And jewelry? I have enough for ten women and he encourages me to buy it whenever I want.

Yes, there have been some years when he's surprized me. I have several Hallmark pink stuffed animals, and I admit, I love my silly talking hippo. But for the most part? I'd rather have him remember me all year long than go crazy on one day in February.

Because a real romantic is the guy there for you when you need him--regardless of whether that's a heart-shaped box of grocery-store chocolate or someone to sit and watch Gozilla vs. King Kong with you when you can't sleep.

Happy Valentine's day all of you! Do you have a special Valentine traditon? A particular wish? One random commenter will win a free download of my novella Valentine's Heart, from Ellora's Cave.

Great post Cindy. My parents send me a Valentine's card every year and I just love that they do that for me :-)

Cindy, what a nice post. I agree totally with your husband. Real romance doesn't need a special day. It sounds like your husband makes Valentine's Day happen all year. How sweet.

We don't have any Valentine's traditions. My husband and I quit exchanging cards years ago. And we never go out to dinner that day because the restaurants are so crowded and the food's not as good because the kitchen staffs are overworked. My husband does nice things for me, like taking care of me when I'm sick. When I was laid up for 2 weeks with toe surgery, he did all the cooking, cleaning and food shopping and made sure I followed doctor's orders.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We've been married 33 yrs and he is always there and supporting me. He takes care of me when I'm sick, does most of the cooking and housework. We started just spending Valentines day together, taking the day off to have time to ourselves, then cook steaks for dinner and just relax together.
Enjoyed your post.

Wonderful post and I agree. A real man doesn't just celebrate or show his love on one day. Your hubby sounds like a wonderful guy.

We don't do the dinner on Valentine's Day either since they are crazed that evening. I think we are cooking steaks that night.

yes, that's us in all the red leather steampunk gear, and yes, Jean, I intend to keep him!

There's a steampunk dance tomorrow night we may go to if the weather's good, but more to see friends than to be romantic. Or, we might stay home with Netflix and a bowl of popcorn. Win, either way, as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, I want my husband to think of me every single day...but give me flowers on Valentine's Day because I love them!
Materialistic but my vice! HA!

Sorry to be late, I was with friends yesterday for a movie and lunch to celebrate one friend's birthday. Then the rest of the day and night was spent with hubby.

My hubby took care of me when I was sick for a whole year. He was so sweet fixing meals and cleaning house while the doctors tried to figure out what was causing my health issues.
