Interview of Author Amber Skyze

Today I'm pleased to present an interview of romance author Amber Skyze.

Latest Book: Going for Broke

BIO:
From a very young age Amber Skyze began making up stories–the only child syndrome. While telling tall tales to her friends she never dreamed of putting words on paper. In fact, if anyone told her she’d write when she grew up, she’d have laughed.

It wasn’t until raising children and reading all those romances that she decided–hey, I can write these. HA! Easier said than done.

When not crafting hot, steamy tales, this New York transplant now resides in Rhode Island with her husband, four children (who force her to work a day job), and three dogs.

She currently writes for Ellora’s Cave, Loose Id and is self-published.

Q: How did you celebrate publishing your first book?
A: My hubby took me out to dinner.

Q: Your novel is being made into a TV series/movie. Who’s in your dream cast?
A: Bradley Cooper and Kate Walsh

Q: What’s your writing schedule like? Do you strive for a certain amount of words each day?
A: I do strive for 1K a day, but I’ll take whatever I can get. I normally get up at 4am to have enough writing time before the day job.

Q: How much of yourself is hidden in the characters in the book?
A: I only try to add a little of myself, but I fear more comes through.

Q: Of all your characters, who’s your favorite, and why?
A: I love all my characters, but I’ll always have a soft spot for Nathan Donovan in Splashing Good Time. He was a real life hero that kinda got away.

Q: If you could change something about your first book, what would it be?
A: Nothing…it’s still one of my favorites – hubby’s too.

Q: Do you eat comfort food/listen to music when writing?
A: I have my coffee – it’s early and the TV is on in the background for white noise.

Q: Covers. Ever get one you wish you could change?
A: Yes!!!! Hit Me, which is now Going for Broke. I did not like the original. It’s the only time I’ve felt that way, though. I suppose that’s a good thing.

Q: Give one advice tip to an aspiring author.
A: Never give up and hit the SEND button. You can’t get published if you never send that baby out into the world.

Q: Have you ever used an incident from your real life into one of your books?
A: In Operation: Second Honeymoon. I changed the grief from the heroine losing her father, but it was really me losing a child. The rest was kinda what happened to the hubby and I except the threesome. LOL There were some crazy times in our life the year after our son died, but we came out stronger.

Answer all these, please. Fun Stuff:
Q: What is your favorite holiday and why?
A: Christmas because of the joy on the little ones faces when they see what Santa brought.

Q: What are two things people might be surprised to know about you?
A: I’ve very shy and I’m addicted to Jeopardy.

Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A Teacher.

Q: Favorite food.
A: Buffalo Chicken Wings

Q: Favorite drink.
A: Vanilla Caramel Coffee

Q: Hot summer days or chilly winter nights?
A: Oh Hot Summer Days for sure!

Q: What is the top thing on your bucket list?
A: To visit Greece or Ireland.

Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
A: To be invisible.

BLURB:
Deacon Burke has a singular goal—to win back the Las Vegas casino swindled from his father years ago.

Businesswoman Holly Perkins is equally determined to gain control of the Pleasure Palace, the decadent casino where anything goes—including exhibitionism and master/slave play. A corporate raider, she’s eager to put down roots in one location while running a business she loves.

When Deacon spots Holly in front of the casino it’s lust at first sight, and soon she’s submitting to him during a blistering-hot encounter. But how will he react when he learns of Holly’s agenda? All bets are off in their high-stakes game of carnal cravings and ultimate control.

Publisher’s Note: This title was previously released elsewhere under the title "Hit Me", and has been revised and expanded for Ellora’s Cave.
A Romantica® contemporary erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave.

EXCERPT:
Put one foot in front of the other and soon you’ll be walking through the door.

Deacon rubbed his eyes. They burned from being sleep deprived and the bright lights didn’t help. It was nearing midnight, but who could tell in the city that never sleeps? He stopped to glance up at the majestic building. The four golden caps made it appear as if it were a true Palace. The design had been created with that in mind. Darius Burke had a dream. He’d wanted to build a casino that reminded people of royalty. He’d wanted them to feel like they were special when inside. For years he’d succeeded.

Put one foot in front of the other and soon you’ll be walking through the door.

The one verse of the incessant Christmas song filled his mind as Deacon climbed the stairs to casino. Sure he changed it a bit to suit his needs, but that was his prerogative.

The flight in from Hong Kong seemed to drag on longer than it should have, but he closed the deal. They would gain a foothold in Hong Kong with their latest fragrance. The time had arrived for him to close another deal. The most important one.

Put one foot in front of the other and soon you’ll be walking through the door.

Deacon adjusted the laptop bag dangling from his left shoulder. He lifted his right foot and placed it on the concrete stair. Gold speckles glittered the front staircases leading to the entranceway.

Each step he took was painful to his weary feet and heavy heart. He hadn’t stepped foot inside the casino or Vegas for that matter in nearly ten years. The day had finally arrived. He was coming home after many years away. Deacon Burke was one step away from reclaiming what rightfully belonged to his family – the Palace of Pleasure.

Though when his father owned the Palace the top floors known as the Pleasure part of the casino didn’t exist. Deacon could see his father rolling over his grave imagining the things that took place in the Pleasure area. Not that Deacon minded. Sex was an enjoyment of his. There was something about cherishing a woman’s body that brought out the animal instinct in him. He also didn’t mind doling out a spanking or two. Having a woman bent over, hands tied behind her back getting spanked, got him overheated every time.

He stifled a moan, while fighting the hard-on that grew in his black slacks.

Maybe he’d partake in a little fun before meeting with the current owner. Why not try out the merchandise? Not that it would change his mind on reclaiming the casino. It belonged to the Burke’s and Deacon would stake his claim, no matter what stupid stipulations they put on him.

Hi, Amber. I enjoyed your interview and I agree with the others that your cover is great. The book sounds great too. Like you, as I was reading some Harlequin romances years back, thought, "I can write these." HA, as you said, much harder than it looks. Congrats on your successes.

I love the cover! It's great to get to know you better! It's funny how we tend to throw life events into our stories but twist them to make them unique. I wish you all the best!

Thanks Melissa. A reader/friend recently told me how she felt the story felt more real because I'd lived it and was able to write from the heart.
