Deadlines, Oh Sweet Deadlines.

I’m in a little bit of an OMG moment right now LOL. I have a book due on the 15th and a book due on May 5th. Yes, I’m a bit crazy, but I’m going to get it done darn it. I’m writing every day, sometimes to the point my eyes hurt and I need to walk away.

I write quickly thank God. I can do around 5,000 words a day and be okay. Some days I can only get to 3k, some days I get to 7k. It really depends on the scene for me these days. My May 5th deadline also marks the end of the craziest few months of my life. You see, that deadline is for Dreams of Ivory (Holiday, Montana 5), the last of my Holiday series and the last of my month-to-month releases. Yes, when Dreams of Ivory hits shelves in July, it will be my 10th release in 10 months. And if you include my two volumes of Redwood Pack books, it’s my 12th upload/release/tour in 10 months.

OMG.

I hadn’t planned on doing that to myself at first, but then I decided to write a Holiday series that needed to be out during the month of its holiday and well…yeah.

I’m at the last two books of this crazy thing in terms of writing and it’s taken its toll on me. I can’t wait to have a little breathing room between releases. *cough* That means every other month for me, rather than every month LOL.

Now, not all releases were full length books. A few of them were around 40k words, so it’s not like I’m too crazy.

No really. I’m not.

I’m a firm believer in quality AND quantity. I might have written many books one after the other, but I’ve also made sure I was proud of my books. There’s a difference I think in that and just shelving them out like a product I don’t care about.

Maybe that’s why my deadlines freak me out and egg me on. I might have to write tons during a day, but I’m proud of those words. *cough* Usually after edits LOL. And copy edits. And revisions.

I already have my April and May releases written, edited, and formatted and ready to go. My June release is almost done and about to be sent to my editor and my July release is going to be on the table soon.

I’m also going to Florida on April 11th to meet up with my CP and business partner, Lia Davis, to work on our series. So yes, I get a mini vacation AND it’s a working one.

I can’t wait to relax on the beach and write.

Yes, writing can be relaxing. LOL

So yes, my deadlines have been a bit much recently, but they won’t always be that way. What about you? Do deadlines help or hinder you?

What about your writing times? How do you manage what you want to do and what you need to do?

When I initially commented I clicked the "Notify me when new comments are added" checkbox and now each time
a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
Cheers!

I am not great with deadlines. They can spurn me into a frenzy that causes illness.. at least with writing. I'd rather have some time to go back and rewrite but I certainly admire you for it! All the best!

Hi, Carrie Ann! I don't write to a deadline. I finish and sell. Much easier. I am so jealous you write so fast. I get down a dirty draft and redo and redo and critique and redo and redo. It's slow, but works for me.

Congratulations!

Melissa - I don't usually write with so many deadlines because I can usually be ahead - but the date helps me get my books out on time. :-)

Vicki - Whatever works for you hon. I go through and do redos and revisions after I get the first draft done. I need that first idea of the tone before I can move on. :-)

Go Carrie Ann!
I love a good deadline to light a fire under me, but I couldn't do a month to month marathon like you're doing. I admire your stamina.

I'm a much slower writer, and think I'm too much of a perfection. The main thing is to enjoy your writing, and that I certainly. Congratulations on your speed....Jean

Jean - I might write fast, but I still take forever going through to make sure things are pretty for me LOL. I love that we all do things differently. :-)

Lisa - Sometimes they creep up on you, don't they? LOL

Teresa - Thank you hon!!!

It's kind of weird but I have a daily word count that I make. Deadlines are figured around the word count I know I can achieve, even if my life is going crazy:)
