Interview of Author D'Ann Lindun

Today I'm pleased to present an interview of romance author D'Ann Lindun.
Latest Book: Wild Horses
Buy Link: www.crimsonromance.com

BIO:
I draw inspiration from the area where I live, Western Colorado, my husband of twenty-nine years and our daughter. Composites of our small farm, herd of fourteen horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, eight ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in my stories! My road to publication was long and rocky—twenty years of dashed hopes and crushed dreams before I got the call (email)!

Q: What’s the first thing you did when you received word you’d sold a book?
A: Burst into tears. Screamed. Scared the cats. My daughter was in the next room, so I called her in and showed her the email, made her pinch me.

Q: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
A: I love the heroine Castaña a lot. She’s brave and determined. But Martin, her brother, has a soft spot in my heart because he loves wild horses so much he will break the law to protect him, and that resonates with me. Not that I’ve been breaking the law…!

Q: Do all your heroes and all heroines look the same in your mind as you “head write”?
A: In a word, yes. Once in awhile one stands out. Castaña did in this book because she is different than what I usually write.

Q: What hobby do you enjoy when not writing?
A: Trail riding with my daughter. We like to take our horses and our five Australian shepherds (a couple are mixes) to the mountains and picnic. We go as often as our schedules, and gas prices, permit.

Q: What is your favorite romance book that you’ve read?
A: For My Lady’s Heart by Laura Kinsale is a favorite that never leaves me. I love a tortured hero, and she’s a master of it.

Q: What genre would you like to try writing in but haven’t yet done so? Why?
A: Historical. Because I grew up in a historical mining town, surrounded by history. My parents ran dude horses out a livery barn that was over 100 years old, and in continuous service for all those years. I just haven’t found the story calling my name yet.

BLURB:
Her family ranch outside of Payson, Arizona, is the last place Castaña Castillo thought she’d ever see again. But when her mustang activist brother goes missing, Castaña returns home to lead the search. Years of bad blood between local law enforcement and the Castillo men lead Castaña to believe the local cops won’t put out much effort to locate her brother. Especially since they think he murdered two federal wildlife agents.

Disgraced FBI agent Jake Breton needs to bring in Martin Castillo to redeem himself and resurrect his career. Falling in love with someone related to the suspect is the last thing he can afford to do. The last time he followed his heart, and not his head, it nearly cost him his life.

Danger, adventure, and death push Jake and Castaña together. Will they learn to trust each other and leave their pasts behind?

EXCERPT:
Jumping inside the trailer, she checked over both geldings. Both horses rolled their eyes and pawed, but otherwise seemed unharmed. She sagged with relief and tucked the gun in the back of her jeans. Back on the pavement, she noticed something next to the road. She rubbed her sand-dry eyes with her fists and stared.

A man!

A man staggering to his feet. Had she clipped him? No, she would've felt the bump.

She hurried toward him. "The sun—I couldn’t see."

He came toward her, weaving. Was he drunk? On drugs? Did she need to go for the gun?

"Some . . . body . . . tried . . ." He swayed again.

"You need to sit down." Was he the big blur she’d noticed? What kind of idiot thought a truck and horse trailer could come to an instant halt? Didn't he know she couldn't slam on her brakes when hauling horses? "I truly didn't see you."

"Obv'sly," he growled, leaning a little.

"I couldn't see—”

"Goin’ too fassst."

"I was not driving too fast. Why were you standing beside the road?" Looking over his shoulder, which wasn't easy considering he towered her own five-nine by at least four or five inches, she searched for a vehicle. "Where's your car?"

"I need," he swayed like a tree about to come crashing down, “help.”

Anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you so much!
