Guest Blog: Keira Kroft: Christmas Heroes

I could talk about the many beautiful Christmas’s I have spent with my family. I could tell you how my daughter’s face lights up when she opens her presents on Christmas Eve. I could mention the golden turkey falling of the bone, the laced eggnog and the decadent pie. But I think we should talk about some of America’s greatest and bravest—Firefighters.

Let’s face it; the pay is not good. People aren’t always nice or them or even grateful. Yet they choose to put their lives on the line every day. Some give up their holidays while others pay the ultimate price.

Here is a story of firefighters that went beyond the call of duty:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Fruitridge firefighters rushed to the rescue of an elderly woman hurt while she was putting up her Christmas decorations on Sunday.

Margie Hinkle, 83, was assisting her husband, George, in hanging the Christmas lights on their home when she tripped and fell down.

The Hinkles were stringing the last set of lights when the accident occurred.

Firefighters from station 56 arrived to assist Margie, and they went beyond the call of duty by helping George hang the rest of their lights.

The Hinkles thanked the firefighters with cookies and other goodies Monday for assisting her and for helping her husband finish putting up the Christmas lights.

Margie is a two-time cancer survivor and said she will be more careful in the future but will not stop being independent.

This story touched my heart. Beautiful stories such as these are what make the season bright.

CONTEST: To warm your cold winter nights!
The awesome Decadent Publishing will be giving one lucky commenter a free download of “Glow in the Dark”. Fireman Jake Gilroy could be lighting up your computer screen, soon.

Did somebody call a fireman? What about a rugged, yet gentle and very good looking fireman? Anybody call one of those? His name is Jake Gilroy and he is about to change Corey Nolan’s life.

BLURB: Glow in the Dark

Determined to be out from under her mother’s ruling and away from a no-good soon-to-be ex-boyfriend, Corey Nolan exercises her independence. With a place to call her own and a job that doesn’t pay well but makes her happy, her life is full and her young daughter is content. There is no room for distractions, until she meets a local firefighter—who stirs an immediate forbidden attraction. In need of control, she tries to ignore Jake Gilroy, but circumstances bring her closer to him when someone is hell-bent on destroying her.

Dutiful playboy Jake is known as the smoking hot fireman. The first time he sets eyes on Corey, he knows he wants her. But when threats and strange occurrences start to happen, he finds the need to protect her and give more than he’s ever given any other woman.

Being together becomes more than they bargained for when their desire for each other becomes a matter of life and death….

BIO:
Keira Kroft has been and done many things in her life. She went to paramedic school and received a degree in vet assistance. She has also been a secretary and a bartender. Nothing seemed to fit except her insatiable lust for brooding “hotties”, romance, and the written word.

These days she can be found writing novels with the help of her furry friends, Scamper, and Sawyer. Sawyer helps by sitting on the keyboard while Scamper tries to steal Keira’s food. She spends the rest of her time helping her husband manage their two businesses, along with being the administrator for a website she started that aids new and unpublished authors.

Just like the banner says I will give a portion of my proceeds from each and every copy, to the Animal Welfare League.

That is a beautiful story. My husband is retired from the state police - another often thankless job.

Loved the story of the firemen. Our local ones do everything for everybody in town. I have one fire alarm battery installed so high only their ladders can reach it to install a new battery. Love everyone of them...Jean

I agree 100%, Keira, about Firemen. I think one of the most endearing stories I heard was about the fireman who gave a kitten mouth-to-mouth after rescuing it from a fire. You cant get more heroic than that.

Happy Holidays! Kari Thomas, www.authorkari.com

Keira, what a wonderful story. You're right the firefighters are under appreciated.

I love your charity, too.
