Escape Into A Romance

Everywhere you turn there’s depressing news. For weeks or months the nation stood riveted on the edge of their seats, eyes glued to the television waiting to see if there would be justice for little Kaylee Anthony only to be let down. Yesterday I read where an 8 yr old boy was kidnapped, cut-up and disposed. WTF is wrong with people? Then there’s the lady who decided to dismember her husband. Those old enough will remember it’s not the first time an angry wife has done this. But seriously – why? So he doesn’t have sex with someone else? Does she feel better today?
Like Cindy talked about yesterday, gas prices make it difficult to do any traveling so what do you do? For me I take my ereader and escape into a world of fantasy. I’d rather believe in a hero and heroine falling madly in love after opening a door and seeing each other for a few mere minutes than read about what’s going on in the world.
I spent two months on hiatus – well my muse did. It seemed she wanted an extended vacation and nothing I did brought her home. Something tells me the evil little muse was at the beach without me.
This week I’m back. I’m writing and editing trying to finish my current wip. In this book I’ve escaped into a home improvement store where my heroine wins a kitchen makeover. She’s going to work side by side with the hot host of the show. They’re going to experiment with some home improvement tools you never imagined bringing into the bedroom and let’s just say the hero knows his way around a tool belt. It feels good to be absorbed in someone else’s life right now.
How about you? What do you do when the real world is just too depressing?

I hope your muse was on a recon mission and was secretly gathering lots of great story lines for a rainy day.
Best wishes with your WIP-this story is going to be great!

Glad you dragged that muse back! I love the premise of the book. I love doing some reading when the world gets too oppressive. Reading and writing is the best escape ever.

Glad your muse returned and hope you greeted her sweetly with no slaps on the fanny. Your WIP sounds inventive and fun...so glad you're writing again. Jean

When the world starts getting to me,my prescription is a "reading vacation". It doesn't matter if its a new book that I've treated myself to or an old one that I know will put me in a better mood--reading always works for me!

I love the idea for your new book:)I see a reading vacation in my future!

It's difficult when the muse disappears Jean, but I was nice. I don't want to scare her away again.

I agree, reading vacations are a must, Paris. :)

Home improvement tools in the bedroom??? Now you have my attention!
Our sometimes evil muses run away, and we just have to coax them to behave again.
Mine took off for a long time. Just getting back to her job.
Escaping with a good romance story is the way to forget the problems of the world...at least for a short time. Gotta stay sane somehow!

I read, without a doubt. But tend towards more "realistic" romantic "fantasy" the kind that does involve occasional infidelity, forgiveness, redemption and hope.
thanks for this!

Oh, I hear you. I watched part of that on Six minutes or some show like that. Then I watch the interview with Jaycee Lee Dugard. The little girl who is all grown up now, but had been forced to live in the backyard of a monster that raped her and got her pregnant with his two kids. She wrote an unflinching memoir of what happened to her.

After hearing what happened to Jaycee and the little girl who's mom went free. I felt a little ill for days.

A bunch of sick people, we share this planet with.

Maybe I should just read for a while, and write my romance stories. It'll certainly better than the news.

Janice~
