Interview of Reviewer Gabrielle Lee

Today I'm pleased to present an interview of romance reviewer Gabrielle Lee.

BIO:
I am a working mother of two boys. I enjoy reading and writing and have been lucky enough to get the chance to put the two together with reviewing. I have had my reviews posted at many different sites.

Q: Describe your job.
A: As a reviewer I wouldn’t consider what I do as a job. I enjoy it way too much. I get to put two things that I enjoy together: reading and writing and I love finding new authors and genres to enjoy.

Q: What motivated you to get involved in the romance industry?
A: Loving to read and being able to share my opinion was a big motivation to get involved in the industry. I also enjoy being able to work on my writing skills and learning new skills is a great plus.

Q: What's one important thing you've learned about your job as you became more involved in it.
A: Not only am I an avid reader but I have also been on the other side of things now. Through the last few years I have not only been a reviewer but I have been fortunate enough to get the chance to help behind the scenes at an epublishing company. Learning many things from how to edit a story to how to build the actual site and also make the covers for the books. It was a lot of work but I enjoyed the thrill of seeing the end results. There is so much that goes into the making of a book whether it be an ebook or print.

As a reviewer I think the most important thing is honesty and professionalism. There are a few must that come along with this “job”. Not only must you actually read the book in full but you must also give your opinion honestly and in a professional manner.

Q: How would you handle complaints/negative feedback from authors?
A: Thankfully I have never had any negative feedback from authors. I have however had many positive remarks and even have had authors ask for me to review their books. Once I even was asked to review the second book in a series when I gave the first a lower score. I love hearing any feedback from authors whether it be good or bad, I would love to hear what they have to say.

Not that all my reviews are perfect I have had a few that the site review editors and I have worked on to make my opinions more professional sounding.

Q: Ebooks or print. Do you read both? If you read ebooks, what reader do you have?
A: I read both ebooks and print. I love the feeling of having a book in my hand but for the amount of ebooks that I review I put them on an ereader. I have a Sony ereader that I enjoy and have recently purchased an older version of the Kindle to see if I like it any better.

Q: Chats. How important do you feel it is for authors to take part in chats on loops or at other romance sites?
A: Chats are always fun and a great way for readers to meet authors. I think it is pretty important for authors to reach out to the readers and chats are a great way to do that. I enjoy chatting and interacting with many authors. Knowing how busy they are it makes it all the more special when they take the time to talk to the readers.

Q: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. Where do you appear?
A: Here are some of the sites that my reviews are posted at.

Hi Gabrielle,

Nice to meet you. I've always wondered if a reviewer had problems with authors getting upset over a review. It's nice to hear you haven't had that problem!

Awesome job with the interview Gabrielle! I didn't know you were on so many sites. I got bogged down and totally had to cut a few. So nice to put a face to the name!

Big hugs
