I decided that I would blog on my assigned day...

Instead of missing it again...

I seem to have forgotten to do my regular posts every week on a couple of my other co-op blogs, so I felt it might get the ball rolling in the right direction if I managed to post today.

Such an auspicious day...tax deadline day. I finally got mine done, and put the checks in the mail. This is the first time in my life I have not gotten a refund. I suppose now that I am self-employed as a writer, there are MORE taxes I need to pay. LOL! Plus, I found out the hard way that my retirement only deducts Federal taxes...so I owed over a thousand in State taxes. Sheesh!

Ah, well...at least I still have roof over my head.

I just wish I could get the royalties from all the pirated copies of my books that are running around out there. So far, the total in lost income edges a bit over $12,400. It would sure be nice to have that in my pocket. And that's only from the top three sites.

Better get busy writing, so I can afford my taxes next year at this time. LOL!

Hugs!

Our taxes are finished, but I still need to sign my MIL's and get her form in the mail! Yikes...going off to do that ASAP...

Fran you are such a wonderful writer. I hope this coming year, lightening strikes and you get a book that pays you back what you've lost and more. You're poised for greater success.

That's horrible to lose that much money to pirates, Fran. I have no idea what I'm losing. I'm afraid to go to those sites.

Sandy,

I go to the source sites and write down the number of downloads X the royalty from that book. Too bad I wasn't allowed to claim these lost sales on my taxes. They don't let you. Grrrrr.....

Thanks for the kind words! That was sooo sweet, and made my day!

Molly,

I always used to use tax returns as a "bank" of sorts, because I always got a refund. Even with all my write offs and deductions, I ended up paying a lot this year.

Pirates don't care about our careers and finances...just looking for "free" ways to scam authors.
All we can do is keep writing and #$%@ those idiots when we find out who they are!
Sorry you had to pay...but your career is going strong!

I sympathise with you. I didn't pay quarterly deductions thinking I'd get a refund anyway but it didn't turn out that way. Ugh. No fancy treats for me for a while.

Fran, what are those three sites? I only know one, Astatalk and can't get them to take down my stuff. Jean
